I wouldn't say that Fox News, O'Reilly, etc discuss things they don't know much about. They know plenty, they just choose to spin and mislead their viewers.

Sometimes I think Bill O's whole existence is a very long-form performance art piece.

They seem to have left out one important word.

    1. Surprisingly, Dr. Oz of all people is doing an entire show on Information Literacy today.

He's shown people how fake news effects their brains and told them they are being targeted because of their age.

Now he's got a lady showing how to identify copycat and fake URLS and she is giving suggestions on how to VET your sources like using SNOPES. Check with other reliable sources and don't SHARE stuff unless you can verify it is actually true.

Dr. Oz showed a website that is a fake Dr. Oz web site selling weight loss shit.

Now there is a guy saying advertisers are also advertising on these sites because they are not vetting them either.

Bottom line he is urging his viewers to take control and they've given them quite a few tools for their toolbox.

      Will it work?

      Doubt it.

This is not something you can "learn" and then put into practice with a one hour quickie TV show.

      But it's a start.

I'd like to see more of it.

Like Ellen do a show on it.

      Then Kelly Ripa.

Get all of the daytime shows to do an hour on defending against Fake News.

I must say, I am surprised. I consider Dr. Oz mostly a quack. But in this case he did bring on people that seemed to know what they were talking about and they gave out good information and good advice.

Information Literacy is something I know about so I am in a position to evaluate.

Dr. Oz has a miniposter on his Facebook page to help go through the steps to identify Fake News.

His mantra is "Be aware before you share."

Glad to see he's doing something. Now I'd like to see others step up and join him.
