Just a reminder that this is why Donald Trump is too afraid to attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

I swear I could watch that over and over again on a loop and never get tired of it.

But see THIS is why Trump does not want to sit up on that stage for the dinner.

He knows that he will be following the guy who was often called the "Comedian-in-Chief."

And he also knows that since he has started a war with the press that the jokes at his expense will be BRUTAL.

However what he does not seem to realize is that the show WILL go on, and that with him out of the room the jokes will only be MORE BRUTAL.

Personally I can hardly wait to see this year's dinner.

I actually had no intention of watching it with Trump attending, but now that he chickened out I wouldn't miss it for the world.

First of all you have to be a very secure person to be able to laugh at yourself. Donnie is the poster boy for insecurity.

Second, I think he backed out because more news organizations were boycotting it. He wanted to be the first to back out and ruin the party.

Unfortunately for him, it backfired bigly!!!

Agreed. There had been back-outs and the talk about not going had really multiplied this week. HuffPo ran a story about why people should stop spending time even talking about the topic, but the artice's very existence was yet another example to Trump that there was so much talk happening about this correspondence dinner. He wanted to do a preemptive strike. How hilarious, though, that he had to do it two months ahead of the event.

Indeed, the Revenge Campaign as I called it. I really don't think he thought he could win, but he would bring down the "elites" of the GOP for laughing at his other attempts which failed -- and stick it to Obama.

Trump really is a pathetic little, little man with no sense of humor which, for me, is a sign of limited intelligence, un-nuanced thinking, lack of self-awareness and confidence. And he is boring.

    Raw Story:
‘I want an investigation’: Father of slain SEAL blames Trump’s carelessness and ego for son’s death

Father of a Navy SEAL killed during a mission that Donald Trump approved just a week into his administration blames the president for his son’s death.

William Owens told The Miami Heraldthat he refused to meet with Trump when the remains of son, William “Ryan” Owens, were returned to Dover Air Force Base.

“I’m sorry, I don’t want to see him,” Owens recalled explaining to the chaplain. “I told them I don’t want to meet the president.”

“I told them I didn’t want to make a scene about it, but my conscience wouldn’t let me talk to him.”

Owens questioned Trump’s motivation for signing off on a mission just six days into his presidency...

There is so much material. Not only stuff that would directly mock Trump, but that would also mock his choice of the sad-sack freak Flynn and the billionaire Cabinet members and idiots like DeVos. And, of course, there'd be so much Russia and Putin talk. Everything that he has done to show his bad judgement, selfishness (jokes about what it's costing Americans would be so welcome), and his idiocy would be savaged. I'd love if if Baldwin did his impersonation and they also brought on the other cast members who have been doing impersonations, and they could surprise the audience by adding another one or two characters, too. There's so much to mock him for. Including that he doesn't have a pet and there will be no Xmas WH video highlighting a schnauzer or whatever. Not all families need a pet, but for the Trumps not to have one does fit the way they are so lacking in normal humanity.

Ok, Gryphen, if you're so smart, how do you explain THIS: apparently - after exhausting reflection and introspection, also too, one must assume - Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama have declined - repeating; DECLINED - to join the cast of Dancing With The Stars. Now, we can argue till the moose come home about whether this was a bad decision or a terrible decision, but it really galls me, quite frankly,

Are Mrs C. and Mrs O. somehow convinced that the show is good enough for The Screechy Wretch(tm)'s uber-talented offspring but it's not good enough for THEM?

    WHY?

Just because they were both first ladies and one was the candidate for president who probably would have won without the interference of Russian and a Russian-backed FBI director?

Don't forget the possibly-preggers girl in the monkey suit wasn't just any hick off the Alaska snow wagon, she was almost First Daughter of the United States of America!! Ok, sorry, I know... never woulda happened. You're right.

Of course stranger things have happened (in the last few months). Im sure all your libtard blog buddies remember way back in 2008 when I boldly predicted "if Screechy Wretch(tm) becomes VP, I'll eat my own elbow and then we'll see Don "The Con" Drumpf elected president in 2016!!!"

Remember that? Of course, my dates were off a bit since I didnt realize 2016 was a leap year and there's never an election in a leap year because it angers the volcano gods.

Latest chapter in the Donald Trump Russia spy novel ends on shocking Darrell Issa cliffhanger

Trump-Russia is the most unrealistic airport gift shop spy novel I’ve ever read

...The major leaks which surfaced on Thursday and Friday pointed to this being a pivotal chapter in the spy novel – but that was before normally reliable villain Darrell Issa showed up entirely out of character and left us with cliffhanger. Trump’s White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus was caught pressuring the FBI over its Trump Russia investigation, and then another White House figure (probably also him) was caught pressuring Republicans in Congress to mislead the media about the investigation, meaning someone on their side had to step up and tamp things down.

So when shamelessly partisan Republican Congressman Darrell Issa surfaced on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday night, one half expected him to announce a phony new investigation into Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama just to try to create a diversion from Trump-Russia. Instead, Issa called for his friend Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself so that an independent special prosecutor could lead a serious Trump-Russia investigation. Even Maher seemed stunned at what he was being told.

But Issa’s shocking Friday night reveal turned out to have merely a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter. He now knows something about Trump-Russia we don’t, or he wouldn’t be trying to prominently throw the president of his own party under the bus. And yet because it’s the weekend, it still hasn’t leaked out just what caused Issa to suddenly go running away from Donald Trump.

Someone on MSNBC drew attention to the fact that Issa narrowly won reelection this last time, and his willingness to investigate could be related to that.

White House Refuses To Guarantee People Won’t Lose Health Insurance From Repeal

You know, because a lot of people will probably lose their coverage.

White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to assure Americans on Sunday that anyone currently covered under the Affordable Care Act would not lose their coverage under President Donald Trump’s health care plan.

Sanders repeatedly dodged the question on ABC’s “This Week,” saying Trump had promised to repeal Obamacare and replace it “with something that’s better.”

Host George Stephanopoulos pressed Sanders on why, if Trump was so intent on replacing the law with something better, the White House couldn’t guarantee that everyone currently with insurance wouldn’t lose it. Sanders said it was “a goal” to make sure people didn’t lose coverage, but she stopped short of saying people would be able to keep their current insurance, or would even be offered similar plans.

...When Stephanopoulos pressed again whether that meant Trump wouldn’t sign a replacement bill that would cause people to lose coverage, Sanders said she wouldn’t “speak specifically for the president on that topic.”

“What I can say is he’s made it a high priority and a No. 1 focus that we make sure that people that have insurance continue their insurance, particularly those in the highest need,” she said.

A consulting firm told governors Saturday that the Republican plan to replace Obamacare could lead to millions losing their health coverage, with many people covered under the Medicaid expansion suddenly unable to afford health insurance.

How a 28-year-old with no political experience found herself in Trump's inner circle

...In January 2015, Trump called Hicks into his office on the 26th floor of Trump Tower, and told her she was joining his presidential campaign.
...During the campaign, Hicks stayed in a free apartment in a Trump building,
...It's been said she can act as a sort of Trump whisperer, understanding his many moods and professionally executing what needs to be done. She still only calls him "Sir" or "Mr. Trump."

It's All So Confusing (The Michael Cohen File)

I noted yesterday that President Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, appears to have a longer-standing relationship than he'd let on with that renegade member of the Ukrainian parliament, Andrii V. Artemenko. Artemenko is the guy who met with Cohen and erstwhile Trump business associate Felix Sater to discuss Artemenko's "peace plan" to settle things between Ukraine and Russia. Cohen originally told The New York Times that he took a copy of the "peace plan" in a sealed envelope and passed it on to Trump's National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, days before Flynn resigned in disgrace.

A day later Cohen denied doing so.

Confused yet? Welcome to my life.

...But Cohen's ties to Ukraine seem extensive. He also appears to move quite a lot of money in his own right - not just in deals he's managed for Trump. And if Artemenko is telling the truth (by no means a certainty), he started discussing plans with Artemenko for a 'peace deal' to bring peace to Ukraine and lift sanctions on Russia in the early stages of Trump's campaign.

At this point, I confess to having many more questions than answers. But after learning more about Cohen, I was much less surprised that the FBI was looking into his activities over the last 2 years, as they reportedly also doing with Flynn, Manafort, Page and Stone.

    Thinskinned.

...That's why it shouldn't surprise anyone that Trump announced on Saturday night via Twitter, two months ahead of time, that he wouldn't be showing up at this year's WHCD: "I will not be attending the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening."

Trump will be the first President since Ronald Reagan in 1981 to miss this annual tradition. And the only reason Reagan missed it was because he was recovering from injuries sustained in an assassination attempt.

...Some on Team Trump will try to spin this announcement as Trump's attempt to avoid hobnobbing with the "dishonest media." Don't fall for that. Trump won't attend because being a punchline rattles him.

...You get the idea, Trump hates knowing that people are laughing at him. And his goal in lashing out is to clearly silence comedians -- even by simply causing them to self-censor to avoid the wrath of Trump.

His desire to silence comic dissent raises the more sinister reason Trump is refusing to attend the WHCD. Trump, like dictators in the Middle East where I've performed comedy countless times, don't want to be publicly ridiculed. The leaders there prefer being revered -- or even feared-- but can't endure being mocked, because they believe it will undermine their power. Given that Trump seems to be following a "Dictator for Dummies" playbook with his attempts to de-legitimize our media, intelligence agencies and even our judiciary, this is plausible.

...But there's also another possible reason Trump doesn't want to go. Simply put: Trump could never compete with Obama's comedy chops and Trump knows it. He knows his performance at the WHCD will be compared to former President Obama's performances, and that's very bad for Trump. Objectively speaking there has not been a modern-day president in as good as Obama at delivering jokes. Period.

Donald Trump’s Fake News War Is Really Fox News on Steroids

...The great wall he’s building around himself and the press, which includes evading his press pool to dine in the shadows, and shutting mainstream media out in favor of friendly outlets that swim in the same sea of make-believe he does, is really just Fox News on steroids.

By ranting and raving about “fake news” stories—i.e. any story critical of him—what Trump is banking on is continually manipulating and stoking the fears of the same people who have Fox News on 24/7—the people that swarmed his campaign rallies.

Borrowing Fox News’ genius strategy of making the “mainstream media” and facts the enemy, the president is banking on discrediting all investigation into him—from his relationship to Russia to Ivanka Trump‘s nosediving Nordstrom sales—and muddying the issue by vilifying the messenger.

“I want you all to know we are fighting the fake news…they are the enemy of the people,” he said at CPAC recently.

Why Trump’s Fox News-ification of the White House is so dangerous is simple: real-life Fox News is merely 24/7 right-wing radio moved to the television screen; it has no army, access to nuclear codes, or power to unilaterally remove critical environmental and economic regulations.

But Trump has all those levers of power; without a free, aggressive press close by to see what he and and his administration are doing—and what favors they’re handing out to their powerful, special interest friends (drain the swamp my ass)—we will have something not much different than state-run media.

Daily Beast, in an August 22, 2016 article reported that Bannon had said this, in 2014, at his home:

“I’m a Leninist,” Bannon proudly proclaimed.

Shocked, the writer asked Bannon what he meant.

“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.” Bannon was employing Lenin’s strategy for Tea Party populist goals. He included in that group the Republican and Democratic Parties, as well as the traditional conservative press.”

    Bannon went on to state:

“National Review and The Weekly Standard,” he said,“are both left-wing magazines,
and I want to destroy them also.” He added that “no one reads them or cares what they say.” His goal was to bring down the entire establishment including the leaders of the Republican Party in Congress. He went on to tell me that he was the East Coast coordinator of all theTea Party groups. His plan was to get its candidates nominated on the Republican ticket, and then to back campaigns that they could
win. Then, Bannon said, when elected they would be held accountable to fight for the agenda he and the Tea Party stood for.

If they didn’t, “we would force them out of office and oppose them when the next election for their seats came around.”

The White House’s big ‘fake news’ cop-out

Few political terms have been weaponized as quickly and effectively as "fake news." It's now a mainstay of the Trump White House's rhetoric and a pithy talking point for conservatives. In just eight letters, it says pretty much everything they believe about the mainstream media.

    It's also a cop-out.

The biggest problem with "fake news" is that it's a blanket dismissal that requires no elaboration or proof. And almost without fail, this White House doesn't provide any.

The Fix's Callum Borchers noted something unusual about the White House's press strategy this week: It has a tendency to not comment on negative stories until they have already published, and then it simply dismisses them out of hand and attacks the media. It happened with this week's AP story on a draft Department of Homeland Security memo that entertained the idea of dispatching 100,000 National Guard troops to deport illegal immigrants. And it happened with CNN's story about Kellyanne Conway being pulled off TV by the White House.

It's a strategy that, as Borchers notes, suggests the White House isn't really interested in litigating the details of the reporting, but would rather use the stories to label the media the enemy, after the fact.

But perhaps it's also because they realize they can't really litigate the details -- that they don't have a leg to stand on.

Trump White House scrambles to check scandal over FBI inquiry into Russia ties

Trump spokesman says FBI called links ‘BS’ but agency has yet to comment

The White House made a messy attempt on Sunday to control public perceptions of a widening scandal over alleged contacts between aides to Donald Trump and Russian intelligence officials during the 2016 election, alleging that the FBI had dismissed reports of such links.

The scandal has shown little sign of coming under control, with a Republican congressman calling for an independent inquiry, multiple congressional committees pursuing investigations and Trump escalating a war with the media in an apparent attempt at distraction.

While the White House has, by its own clumsy admission, been working behind the scenes to try to manage the conduct of Congress and intelligence agencies in the scandal, those efforts have so far backfired.

These are not great times to be White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

Between some of the controversy he’s generated personally this week (namely, barring a number of major news outlets from his press gaggle), and the seemingly endless slew of controversies that have plagued the Donald Trump administration in its first month, all of which he has to answer for in his daily briefings, it’s no surprise that things are getting a little tense around his office these days.

Nonetheless, a report by Politico is generating disbelief, concern, and ridicule in nearly equal measure: Spicer reportedly held a surprise search of his staffers’ phones to try to ferret out leakers. A fact which, of course, immediately leaked.

According to Karni’s report, staffers were unexpectedly called into Spicer’s office last week, where they were ordered to leave their phones and mobile devices on a table to be searched to ensure “they had nothing to hide.” The process was reportedly overseen by White House lawyers, and Spicer followed it up with a warning that there would be “more problems” if any reports regarding the phone check leaked. In other words, there are now more problems.

Suffice to say, the denizens of social media are eating this story up. It tickles some popular perceptions of both the administration and of Spicer in particular—the overreach and the constant undermining by his own staff.

    Russian diplomats keep dying unexpectedly

Six Russian diplomats have died since November, in addition to an aide to a former deputy prime minister. All but one died on foreign soil. Some were shot, while other causes of death are unknown. Note that a few deaths have been labeled "heart attacks" or "brief illnesses." Here's what you need to know:

    Time to talk Trump impeachment

Republicans are burying Trump transgressions. Democrats need to make sure they get noticed.

At the Constitutional Convention, James Madison imagined impeachment as a relief from a chief executive who “might lose his capacity after his appointment. He might pervert his administration into a scheme of peculation or oppression. He might betray his trust to foreign powers.”

President Trump might have won Madison’s Triple Crown — in his first few weeks.

This is no exaggeration. The latest but far from only example is the Washington Post report that the White House, having failed to get the FBI director and deputy director to publicly rebut reports about contacts between Trump associates and Russian intelligence operatives before the 2016 election, then enlisted Congress and the intelligence community to knock down stories about the alleged connections.

And the goon squad attempting to limit the president’s PR damage reportedly includes the man Trump picked to lead the CIA and the chairmen of the House and Senate intelligence committees, who were Trump transition advisers and now are the two men most responsible for investigating Trump’s Russia ties.

The pair, Rep. Devin Nunes and Sen. Richard Burr, arguably are already derelict in their duties. They “should have started the investigation in August before the election and showed no interest in doing so,” says national security reporter Marcy Wheeler. Republicans on the House Oversight Committee, meanwhile, instead of investigating what could be the greatest scandal in U.S. history, are focusing on the leaks that led Trump to ask Michael Flynn to step down as national security adviser.

Imagine Watergate with a Congress even more interested than the president in covering up potential high crimes and misdemeanors.

  38. Yes, certainly Obama should be brought back to the WHCD.

But I really think they should have Hillary there and treat her as the Altprez. She'd go for it, especially if it would get Trump's goat, which we all know it would.

Plus bring in all of the SNL crowd, plus Colbert's "Melania" impersonator to be the "first family".

I would be fine with Seth Meyers but I really think they should have Stephen Colbert back. Imagine what he would do to Trump especially in his absence.

It would be just like the orange turd for them to make all thee great preparations, and then the asshole decides at the last minute he's going to attend after all.

With any luck (if there is a god) Trump will be impeached or dead by April.
