"The question is whether this Justice Department is independent enough to stand up for the rule of law on matters this serious. If it's not, if under Jeff Sessions the Justice Department is just going to be another part of this same scheme, this scheme that we're seeing unspool every day with each strange new revelation in the press, If the Justice Department's just going to be part of it, rather than part of fixing it, then we are going to need a different kind of remedy to fight back against what Russia has already done to our government, what Russia has already done to our election system, what Russia has already done to us, and what apparently they are still working on doing."
This was another great segment, and Rachel did an amazing job of laying out all of the threads and then essentially challenging the Justice Department to follow them to their obvious conclusions.
By the way while we are on the topic, here is Scott Dworkin's analysis of that Russian Dossier.
It is actually quite interesting.

Toxicology tests for seventh Russian operative who’s died amid Donald Trump-Russia scandal
ReplyDeleteYesterday the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations suddenly dropped dead in New York, shocking all involved. The death of Vitaly Churkin might not have been considered suspicious in its own right, if not for the fact that he’s the second Russian diplomat to drop dead in New York since the Donald Trump and Russia scandal exploded, and he’s the seventh Russian diplomat or operative to drop dead worldwide since the scandal began. And it turns out NYC is taking Churkin’s death seriously.
The city medical examiner in New York believes that Vitaly Churkin’s death “needs to be studied further” and such further studies include “toxicology and other screenings, which can take weeks,” according to a CBS News report. The results may instructive. The last time a Russian diplomat dropped dead in New York, it was on election day, and although the Russian consulate claimed Sergei Krivov had died of a heart attack, BuzzFeed recently learned that his skull had been bashed in. Additionally, his name and listed home address turned out to be phony.
Churkin and Krivov are two of the seven Russian operatives who have died amid the Trump-Russia scandal, some of whom had direct connections to the Trump-Russia investigation. We’ve previously previously documented the seven mysterious Russian deaths

Prosecutor: Ukrainian conspirator Andriy Artemenko facing treason charges in Trump-Russia scandal
DeleteAnother Trump-Russia domino set to fall
...This week’s bombshell revelation, involving the Kremlin’s attempt to nudge Donald Trump into ousting the president of the Ukraine, may already be seeing its first domino falling — raising questions about whom he might end up flipping on. The conspiracy involved everyone from Trump’s National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, to Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen, to convicted Russian mafia figure Felix Sater. But it’s the Ukrainian conspirator Andriy Artemenko who is now facing treason charges over it.

Ukraine Lawmaker Faces 'Treason' Inquiry Over Back-Channel Peace Plan
Ukraine's top prosecutor says his office is investigating a previously obscure lawmaker on suspicion of treason after he presented associates of President Donald Trump with a controversial peace plan for Ukraine and Russia.
Prosecutor-General Yuriy Lutsenko told reporters on February 21 that Andriy Artemenko may have committed a treasonous offense in designing a plan to lease Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula to Russia in exchange for Kyiv regaining control of land held by Russia-backed separatists in the east.
The peace-for-sanctions-relief plan Artemenko claimed he co-authored thrust him into the spotlight on February 20 after The New York Times reported that it had wound up on the desk of Trump's short-lived national security adviser, Michael Flynn.
A document announcing the inquiry shared on Facebook by Lutsenko accuses Artemenko of carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine.
Such actions are punishable in Ukraine by 10 to 15 years in prison.

GOP Congressman Dave Brat came up with what he thought was a genius plan – hold his event a whopping 60 miles away from where most of his constituents live. They weren't having it.
Delete...Let this be a lesson for other Republicans planning to make it difficult for their constituents to find them. Instead of dodging town halls or making it more difficult for folks to attend, just have some courage and face the people.
Hiding from your constituents, after all, only motivates them more, as Congressman Brat found out on Tuesday.
Keep It Up Liberals, Donald Trump Says Your Activism Is Making Him Sad
DeletePresident Trump took to Twitter to complain that liberal activism and organization at Republican Congressional town halls is making him sad.
...Trump tried to question the legitimacy of the crowds by referring to them as “so-called” angry crowds, which serves as a testament to just how strong President Trump’s ability to deny reality really is. The crowds are angry, and they are definitely real. People don’t like the direction that the country is moving in, and they are making their voices heard.
President Trump also believes that there is something wrong with liberals organizing and participating in the political process. Trump still hasn’t figured out that his constituency is every citizen of the United States. He is not only the president for those who voted for him.
Trump also wants America to know that increased participation in the political process is making him sad. Yep, the President Of The United States wants fewer people involved in politics, because if more people get involved, it is going to take a lot more than 78,000 votes in three swing states for him to win reelection.

Cowards.
DeleteI seem to remember that they were thrilled when protesters disrupted town halls when they were held by Democrats and the protests were against Obamacare.
Darrell Issa actually came out and spoke with protesters outside his office in an informal spur of the moment "Town Hall."
DeleteIt was so rare and unprecedented (for Issa) that the news actually covered it.
Of course, later they covered the fact he dodged a scheduled town hall. Issa says he had a previous commitment to tour a homeless shelter.
Knowing Issa, I call BULLSHIT!

He *is* going to be replaced in 2018. He was very close to losing last time and I understand his opponent is going to take him on again and is determined to win this time.

Yes, indeed, this analysis is quite an eye-opener! Especially the report from Bloomberg that highlighted the $11 billion sale of 19% of Rosneft to Qatari investment group and Glencore Plc.
DeleteThe Qatari group is the largest investor in Glencore, which has made its mark in commodities, chiefly in mining and oil. Glencore took over Xstrata over two years ago; they have considerable mining interests here in Canada.
The report stated that Qatar Airways was the go-between for the Qatari investor group; they have an office in fuckin' trump tower!! The pieces have to start coming together here; there is a lot of dirty shit happening here!

Trump Tweets Right After Jim DeMint's MSNBC Complaint About Town Halls
Our Cable News Consumer-In-Chief apparently has nothing better to do than sit around the White House in his jammies watching the likes of Jim DeMint complain about town hall attendees on the teevee machine, rather than doing his damn job.
At 6:11 PM Eastern time, Jim DeMint made the claim that the folks at town halls around the nation were "well financed and bused around to these town halls," as if somehow liberals had the means and ability to do what DeMint's group did in 2009. Despite the fact that many of these town hall attendees have actually resorted to wearing their zip codes as a badge to prove they're constituents, DeMint persisted.
Then the Man Who Never Had An Original Thought sent out a tweet 12 minutes later. To be fair, he may have wanted to wait until the DeMint segment was over. It ended at approximately 6:20 PM or so, and Trump's tweet went out at 6:23.
Apparently his takeaway was the town halls.
...Beyond the obvious absurdity of DeMint's claims and Trump's amplifications, does he really have nothing to do but sit around in the White House watching TV, eating taco bowls, and whining about people participating in democracy?
He says he is a man of the people and all that. Speaking for us. Channeling our concerns. Apparently that's only for those folks who watch Fox News.
Here's a reminder for Jim DeMint, in case he forgot already.

Ivanka Trump hit with lien in New York for failure to pay taxes on her high end jewelry business
It has been a tough month for presidential first daughter Ivanka Trump, with retailers dropping her fashion lines due to poor sales, and it got worse as it was revealed that she has been hit with a lien for failure to pay back taxes owed by her New York jewelry store.
According to documents acquired by the Daily Mail, Trump owes over $5,000 in taxes related to Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry — officially listed as Madison Avenue Diamonds LLC — located in Trump Tower.
According to the report, the high-end jewelry business routinely sells items in the $1,000 to $20,000 range.
Ivanka Trump has seen her brand take hit after hit since her father was elected, with major department stores dropping her clothing and jewelry lines.
Trump has reportedly stepped away from her businesses in order to advise her father, but is still listed in business filings as the chief executive officer of her companies in both Florida and New York.
According to LawNewz, Trump was previously ordered by a court to pay more than $2 million in a breach of contract case after she stopped making payments to a supplier for her jewelry business.

Austria buys their gas from this guy's company in Russia which is owned by Putin and Dimitri known as Gazprom. He also owns a large Austrian bank, so his influence in Austria made it possible to hide there for 2 years.
In the larger picture Rex Tillerson and Exxon are tied to Putin's Rosnoft which is a huge trillion dollar deal that can happen if the sanctions get lifted. (Artic gas and oil drilling which is also part of Gazprom.) Rex Tillerson got a Russian Medal of Honor for putting this oil deal together from Putin.
The long game plan is to have the oligarchs all over the world control the oil and gas and other resources. Russia can then regain the Soviet countries and dominate the world if the Western and European governments are weakened and NATO and the EU are gone.
Trump is dealt in with riches and more power along with his cronies.

House Overturns Obama-Era Law to Protect Alaskan Bears and Wolves
ReplyDeleteHunters could once again go after bears, wolves and other predators in national wildlife refuges across Alaska if an Obama-era federal law is overturned by Congress and gets the president's approval.
Supporters of repealing the rule, which was issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in August, got a boost Thursday when the House voted 225-193, mostly along party lines, to undo the law.
Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, is behind the resolution to strip away some of the federal government's control over Alaska's 76 million acres worth of federal wildlife refuges. Under the federal law, hunters are prohibited from shooting or trapping wolves while at their dens with cubs, using airplanes to scout for potential grizzly bear targets, trapping bears with wire snares and luring bears with food to get a point-blank kill.
But essentially, hunters could once again kill such predators from the air or in dens if the law is overturned.

Will this mystery man bring down Trump's presidency?
ReplyDelete...I could write about all these things, but I can't help but sense there's a bigger crisis looming. That Trump's D.C. house of cards will come crashing down sooner than later, for essentially the same reason that his business empire collapsed a generation ago -- that despite two years of non-stop public vetting, our figurehead is not what he seems.
I'm referring, of course, to the exploding scandal over Trump, his inner circle, and their bizarre history of dealings with Vladimir Putin's Russia. It was, no doubt, the remarkable reporting on this scandal by news outlets such as the New York Times and the Washington Post that caused the president to lash out at the media as "the enemy of the American people." But the questions raised by Russia's apparent efforts to tilt the 2016 election toward Trump, campaign contacts and possible financial dealings that are under investigation by the FBI, Trump's unusual statements and seeming policy shifts toward Putin, and the Russian dealings of former national security adviser Michael Flynn that led to his ouster are simply too loud to ignore.
A story in Sunday's New York Times took things to a whole different level:
...And who is Felix Sater?
Sater -- more than anyone else -- may be the holder of the secrets upon which the future of Trump's presidency depends. The man has a long history of close ties to Russian oligarchs, American organized crime...and Donald Trump. In the 1990s and 2000s, when Trump was desperate to write "The Art of the Comeback" (which indeed was the title of his sequel), convicted felon Sater arrived as a source of capital for some of Trump's projects -- with an office in Trump Tower and business cards proclaiming that he was a senior adviser to The Donald.
Here's more on this man of international intrique:
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/attytood/Is-this-the-man-who-will-bring-down-Trumps-presidency.html?mobi=true
"Sater also worked with the Trump Organization on a failed hotel deal in Moscow and other projects, including one in Denver."it again begs the great unanswered question from the 2016 campaign, of why Trump broke with tradition to keep his income tax returns secret from the American people."
