A decade ago former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort launched a secret plan to push Putin agenda. Update!

Courtesy of the AP:

President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, secretly worked for a Russian billionaire to advance the interests of Russian President Vladimir Putin a decade ago and proposed an ambitious political strategy to undermine anti-Russian opposition across former Soviet republics, The Associated Press has learned. The work appears to contradict assertions by the Trump administration and Manafort himself that he never worked for Russian interests.

Manafort proposed in a confidential strategy plan as early as June 2005 that he would influence politics, business dealings and news coverage inside the United States, Europe and the former Soviet republics to benefit the Putin government, even as U.S.-Russia relations under Republican President George W. Bush grew worse. Manafort pitched the plans to Russian aluminum magnate Oleg Deripaska, a close Putin ally with whom Manafort eventually signed a $10 million annual contract beginning in 2006, according to interviews with several people familiar with payments to Manafort and business records obtained by the AP. Manafort and Deripaska maintained a business relationship until at least 2009, according to one person familiar with the work.

"We are now of the belief that this model can greatly benefit the Putin Government if employed at the correct levels with the appropriate commitment to success," Manafort wrote in the 2005 memo to Deripaska. The effort, Manafort wrote, "will be offering a great service that can re-focus, both internally and externally, the policies of the Putin government."

Manafort's plans were laid out in documents obtained by the AP that included strategy memoranda and records showing international wire transfers for millions of dollars. How much work Manafort performed under the contract was unclear.

Well since Manafort helped to install Vladimir Putin's puppet into the highest political office in the world I would think that he did quite a bit of work to further Putin's agenda.

After all what more could Putin hope to achieve?

If this is not considered a smoking gun then I do not know what would be considered a smoking gun.

Virtually EVERY person in Trump's campaign have ties to Russia, as do many in his administration.

The ability to call any of this a coincidence has vacated the building long ago.

There is no longer any doubt that it is the Putin presidency currently occupying the White House, and the Putin agenda that the Republicans are helping to push forward by confirming Trump's nominees and voting for his policies.

The Russian government declared war on America, and without a single drop of America blood being spilled they achieved victory.

Update: Do we all remember this?

Could NOT be more uncomfortable answering that question.

I think this FBI probe is going to be quite illuminating.

My guess is Manafort will be charged with tax evasion in near future and be arrested.

Yep, a total coup and not a drop spilled. With ICE agents stalking courthouses in the name of the USA, and a penitentiary wall going up on our southern border, we're never going to be the same.

Trump campaign has gone from applauding him as campaign manager to "he didn't have much to do with the campaign." As they seek to distance themselves, the story by April will be, "I don't really remember him. I don't think we ever met. We may have been in the same room together at an event."

If they do not impeach Trump and have every treasonous "advisor" in Trump's administration arrested, how will the Republican Congress face their families, their constituents? their mothers???

Key witness in Preet Bharara’s Russian crime probe was just thrown from fourth floor of building

Nikolai Gorokhov survives plunge, is in intensive care

Russian attorney Nikolai Gorokhov was thrown out of the window of his fourth floor apartment in Moscow today, just before he was set to testify on behalf of Vladimir Putin’s longtime foe Sergei Magnitsky tomorrow. Magnitsky was murdered eight years ago but Putin has him posthumously on trial anyway, in an apparent attempt at sabotaging the “Magnitsky Act” which was named after him. And as it turns out, the Magnitsky Act has direct ties to Mar-a-Lago and Donald Trump.

The New York Daily News Casts Trump as Bumbling Evil Mastermind

The New York Daily News has struck again, leaving MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin to tweet, “Oh. My. God.”

Casting Donald Trump as a bumbling evil mastermind is not at all a reach. Notice they even sound alike when saying “millions” and “billions” of dollars.

And the treatment is in line with previous Daily News Trump covers, which have shown Trump as a zombie clown (“Dawn of the Brain Dead”) in February, and treasonous (“Lock Him Up!”) when he called on Putin to hack Hillary Clinton, to name just a couple prominent examples.

The Wall Street Journal Turns on Donald Trump With Blistering Editorial

...For example, the editors complain about Trump’s accusation that President Obama ordered Trump Tower to be wiretapped, saying “the President clings to his assertion like a drunk to an empty gin bottle, rolling out his press spokesman to make more dubious claims.”

    A President’s Credibility
Drumpf’s falsehoods are eroding public trust, at home and abroad.

If President Drumpf announces that North Korea launched a missile that landed within 100 miles of Hawaii, would most Americans believe him? Would the rest of the world? We’re not sure, which speaks to the damage that Mr. Drumpf is doing to his Presidency with his seemingly endless stream of exaggerations, evidence-free accusations, implausible denials and other falsehoods.

The latest example is Mr. Drumpf’s refusal to back off his Saturday morning tweet of three weeks ago that he had “found out that [Barack] Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Drumpf Tower just before the victory” on Election Day. He has offered no evidence for his claim, and a parade of intelligence officials, senior Republicans and Democrats have since said they have seen no such evidence.

Yet the President clings to his assertion like a drunk to an empty gin bottle, rolling out his press spokesman to make more dubious claims. Sean Spicer—who doesn’t deserve this treatment—was dispatched last week to repeat an assertion by a Fox News commentator that perhaps the Obama Administration had subcontracted the wiretap to British intelligence.

That bungle led to a public denial from the British Government Communications Headquarters, and British news reports said the U.S. apologized. But then the White House claimed there was no apology. For the sake of grasping for any evidence to back up his original tweet, and the sin of pride in not admitting error, Mr. Drumpf had his spokesman repeat an unchecked TV claim that insulted an ally.

The wiretap tweet is also costing Mr. Drumpf politically as he hands his opponents a sword. Mr. Drumpf has a legitimate question about why the U.S. was listening to his former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and who leaked news of his meeting with the Russian ambassador. But that question never gets a hearing because the near-daily repudiation of his false tweet is a bigger media story.

FBI director James Comey also took revenge on Monday by joining the queue of those saying the bureau has no evidence to back up the wiretap tweet. Mr. Comey even took the unusual step of confirming that the FBI is investigating ties between the Drumpf election campaign and Russia.

Mr. Comey said he could make such a public admission only in “unusual circumstances,” but why now? Could the wiretap tweet have made Mr. Comey angry because it implied the FBI was involved in illegal surveillance? Mr. Drumpf blundered in keeping Mr. Comey in the job after the election, but now the President can’t fire the man leading an investigation into his campaign even if he wants to.

All of this continues the pattern from the campaign that Mr. Drumpf is his own worst political enemy. He survived his many false claims as a candidate because his core supporters treated it as mere hyperbole and his opponent was untrustworthy Hillary Clinton. But now he’s President, and he needs support beyond the Breitbart cheering section that will excuse anything. As he is learning with the health-care bill, Mr. Drumpf needs partners in his own party to pass his agenda. He also needs friends abroad who are willing to trust him when he asks for support, not least in a crisis.

This week should be dominated by the smooth political sailing for Mr. Drumpf’s Supreme Court nominee and the progress of health-care reform on Capitol Hill. These are historic events, and success will show he can deliver on his promises. But instead the week has been dominated by the news that he was repudiated by his own FBI director.

Two months into his Presidency, Gallup has Mr. Drumpf’s approval rating at 39%. No doubt Mr. Drumpf considers that fake news, but if he doesn’t show more respect for the truth most Americans may conclude he’s a fake President.

Labor nominee Acosta cut deal with billionaire guilty in sex abuse case

...Now, Drumpf is on the witness list in a Florida court battle over how federal prosecutors handled allegations that Epstein, 64, sexually abused more than 40 minor girls, most of them between the ages of 13 and 17. Trump Team Wanted Tanks At Inauguration

Team Said It Didn’t Ask For Military Vehicles At Inauguration. Emails Show It Did.

...The Presidential Inaugural Committee “is seriously considering adding military vehicles to the Inaugural Parade,” a Pentagon official wrote in an internal email dated Dec. 13, 2016. “The conversation started as ‘Can you send us some pictures of military vehicles we could add to the parade,’” the official wrote.

The emails, which were released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, corroborate HuffPost’s January report that Trump, who has spoken favorably of public displays of military prowess, looked into deploying heavy military equipment in his inaugural parade. Asked in December about plans to use military equipment during the occasion, a Trump aide refused to address the matter on the record but offered an incredulous off-the-record denial.

Suspected U.S. Airstrike Hits School Sheltering Displaced People In Syria
Dozens of civilian casualties are reported.

At least 33 people were killed in an airstrike that hit a school sheltering displaced people near the Islamic State-held city of Raqqa, a group that monitors the war in Syria said on Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it believed the strike was carried out by the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State.

Observatory activists had counted at least 33 bodies at the site near the village of al-Mansoura, west of Raqqa, Observatory Director Rami Abdulrahman told Reuters. The air strike took place on Monday night, he said.

The U.S.-led coalition has escalated its aerial campaign against the militant group around Raqqa this month, causing numerous civilian casualties, Abdulrahman said.

The nearest Islamic State installation to the site of the air strike was a religious school 3 km (1.9 miles) away, he said.

Sarah Palin gets roasted online for complaining about Colin Kaepernick’s donation to Meals on Wheels

Sarah Palin complained about Colin Kaepernick’s latest “political stunt” — and got absolutely roasted on social media.

The failed vice presidential candidate and former half-term governor of Alaska posted a link early Wednesday to her own website, which published an article on Kaepernick written by Mary Kate Knorr.

The free-agent quarterback donated $50,000 to Meals on Wheels, which could lose its federal grant — which makes up more than 35 percent of the program’s funding — under the budget proposed by President Donald Trump.

Kaepernick angered conservatives last year by kneeling during the national anthem to protest police violence against black Americans, and Trump has claimed credit for the player remaining unsigned after opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

“And he wonders why he can’t find a job,” Palin posted on her Facebook and Twitter accounts, along with a link to the story about his donation.

Twitter users heaped scorn on the political celebrity, whose website complained that reports about Meals on Wheels losing its federal funding were “misleading.”

    Sean Spicer retreats on Manafort:

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer refused to comment on Wednesday after news broke that former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort had once pushed a plan that was meant to “greatly benefit the Putin Government.”

The Associated Press reported this week that Manafort had secretly signed a $10 million contract with Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska to advance Putin’s agenda beginning in 2006.

“We are now of the belief that this model can greatly benefit the Putin Government if employed at the correct levels with the appropriate commitment to success,” Manafort wrote in a 2005 memo to Deripaska, adding that the plan would “re-focus, both internally and externally, the policies of the Putin government.”

The new report contradicts claims made by Trump that Manafort had not worked on behalf of Russian interests.

NBC’s Peter Alexander found that the White House was unusually tight-lipped when he asked Spicer for a comment on Wednesday.

“It would be inappropriate for us to comment on a person who is not a White House employee,” the press secretary insisted.

A group of U.S. Republicans has handed Russia a major propaganda coup by attacking the work of billionaire financier and philanthropist George Soros’ work in Eastern Europe.

According to a feature in Politico Magazine on Wednesday, a delegation of GOP congressmen led by Rep. Chris Smith (NJ) and Sen. Mike Lee (UT) are making common cause with Russia-backed politicians in Macedonia and Albania to fight Soros’ Open Society Foundation, which is dedicated to building “vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens.”

Smith and Lee sent a letter to Sec. of State Rex Tillerson on March 14 accusing Soros and Open Society of pushing a leftist agenda in the former Soviet states, which are currently teetering on the brink of authoritarianism. Macedonia in particular is in the midst of an ongoing political crisis with its far-right VMRO-DPMNE party clinging to power.

Russia — which backs anti-Western regimes like VMRO-DPMNE — trumpeted the Republican letter as proof that Soros and former Pres. Barack Obama are attempting to sway elections in other countries, just as Russia is accused of helping throw the U.S. 2016 election to Pres. Donald Trump.

State-owned propaganda organ Russia Today’s headline read, “Senators ask Tillerson to probe US ‘fomenting unrest’ in other countries.”

Pro-Putin outlet Sputnik News trumpeted, “Tables Turned: Have Obama and Soros Hacked Foreign Elections?”

Open Society’s Chris Stone said that right-wing authoritarian regimes all over the former Eastern Bloc and beyond have been emboldened by the victory of Pres. Donald Trump and that U.S. Republicans are playing right into VMRO-DPMNE’s hands.

“Authoritarians, branded today as ‘illiberals,’ have long opposed George Soros and the vision of an open society, but they have been emboldened by Trump’s victory to go even further,” Stone told Politico.
