Senator Jeanne Shaheen introduces bill to give Justice Department more power to investigate Russia language news outlet.

Courtesy of Politico:

New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is introducing a bill that would give the Justice Department additional authority to investigate Russia's english-language news outlet RT America for possible violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

The bill, called the Foreign Agents Registration Modernization and Enforcement Act, would increase the Department of Justice’s power to compel organizations to produce information about their foreign connections and the sources of their funding.

Shaheen, a Democrat, said that the bill comes in response to a report from the Director of National Intelligence about Russian influence in the 2016 election, part of which examined RT America. That report stated that RT News was skirting disclosure requirements by using a nonprofit structure, and that RT's programming intended to advance stories that benefited Russian interests.

“We have good reason to believe that RT News is coordinating with the Russian government to spread misinformation and undermine our democratic process,” Shaheen said in a statement. “The American public has a right to know if this is the case.”

I think this is a great idea, however I would have more confidence that it could make a difference if the DOJ was not currently under the control of Donald Trump's new Attorney General, and Keebler Elf, Jeff Sessions.

Somehow I get the idea that Sessions has NO intention of investigating any Russian language news outlets that might have had a hand in helping his boss win the presidency.

Besides currently the DOJ is up to it's ass crack in work trying to locate evidence that President Obama wiretapped Trump Tower.

Courtesy of CNN:

The Department of Justice asked the chairman and vice chairman of the House Intelligence Committee for "additional time" to collect evidence to support President Donald Trump's accusation that the Obama administration wiretapped his phones at Trump Tower during the campaign.

Yes how could the Feds have any time left to investigate the undermining of our democracy when they are so busy going on Trump inspired wild goose chases.

  1. I hope something comes of this.
Kinda like Palin finally getting nailed for being a shmuck.

    Here is why.
Ed Schultz and my husband used to work at WDAY TV in Fargo, ND years ago. Ed was married to an anchor newscaster and she finally had the courage to have him arrested for domestic assault. He later divorced and married a gal who ran a homeless center and turned his abusive behavior around. Also went from rabid Repub to rabid liberal.

Fast forward: had MSNBC success but kinda blew it and went back to broadcasting nationally syndicated stuff from the Fargo area. Completely went off the rails and signed on with RT last year. He has become a bought and paid for jerk. He recently acquired a new jet He owns a hunting and fishing lodge north of Winnipeg and has been a Piper Cub pilot for many years.

I think that he is and always has been a con man from the word go. Not the most affable asshat in the world either.

Um, I wish they would have qualified all this hoopla by stating that it is his 2005 taxes...as Jim Wright said at Stonekettle Station "prepare to be underwhelmed".

But hey, good job Trump, you paid your fair share of tax in 2005, how about 2006-2016?

That seems a bit low to me. Both for income and for taxes paid. 26%? Really?

I'll bet there are some shady deductions too.

Top House Democrat Follows The Money And Busts The Republican Health Care Bill Lies

Rep. Cummings (D-MD) said, “When I look at the proposal that has been presented by the Republicans, I see all this hocus pocus language where they talk about well, you’re not going to be worried about costs, but then they don’t seem they’re that much worried about coverage, and, so what I’m saying to them is that American people need coverage, and they need access to health care, but I’m begging them not to play games with this, because again, it’s very personal, so what we have to do Wolf, is follow the money. We’ve got a situation here where they’re giving a major tax cut to folks, $600-$700 million to the wealthier folks in our country, but at the same time, slashing something like Medicaid, which helps our most vulnerable persons, so again, if we’re honest about it, somebody’s gonna pay, so we might as well come up with a, they should come up with a proposal to fix the Affordable Care Act if they want to do that, but I hope that President Trump will not run around talking about a proposal that really does take away from people’s opportunity to stay well and be well.”

Rep. Cummings has it right. The American Health Care Act isn’t about helping to get covered with affordable health care. The point of this legislation is a massive redistribution of wealth from the people at the bottom of American society to those at the top. If one wants to understand the purpose of the Republican bill, look at where the money goes. Money and coverage are taken away from the people who have the least to give a tax cut to those who have the most.

What Republicans have proposed isn’t health care policy. It’s a redistribution of wealth.

The story was hyped, but was pretty anti-climactic. Other than showing that DJT would benefit by eliminating the alternative minimum tax, the 2 pages of this return revealed nothing. And it was from 2005 - 12 years ago. I want to see more current information and more detailed information. Yes, I know that's what Rachel said, too, but this just seemed like much ado about nothing.

Five signs that Donald Trump leaked his own 2005 tax returns as a Trump-Russia diversion

...This evidence all adds up to the question of why Donald Trump would have strategically leaked his own 2005 tax returns at this time. For one thing, some Americans will now mistakenly assume that his more recent returns are as clean as the first two pages of this ancient return. And other big stories yesterday, such as his would-be deputy National Security Adviser Monica Crowley registering as a foreign agent, were buried. Perhaps most relevantly, it may cut into today’s news cycle in which James Comey is expected to reveal details of the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation. This leak feels like an intentional distraction at a time when a sinking Trump needed one.

Looks like Donald Trump leaked his own “client copy” 2005 tax return as Trump-Russia distraction

... If this were a leak from anyone inside the government, it would be signed and it wouldn’t have that stamp. So this leak came from Donald Trump himself, or Melania, or perhaps his accountant, or someone who stole it from them. Which means it came from Donald. So why would he do this right now?

Tonight it was revealed that FBI director James Comey will be publicly testifying tomorrow about the Trump-Russia investigation. The news was announced by Democratic Denator Sheldon Whitehouse, suggesting it will be the kind of news that Democrats want to hear. This could be devastating for Donald Trump. So why not create a media distraction by anonymously leaking his least harmful tax return to his longtime enemy David Cay Johnston the night before? This is not the fault of Johnston, who has long done good work, and it’s not the fault of Rachel Maddow. They really did have a Donald Trump tax return. It’s just that in this case, for once, Trump’s taxes are not the story. Comey’s testimony about Trump and Russia is the story. And Trump knows it.

James Comey to reveal details of FBI’s Donald Trump and Russia investigation Wednesday

...The day is now upon us. It was originally believed that FBI Director James Comey’s first comments on the FBI investigation into Donald Trump and Russia would take place during House Intelligence Committee hearings on March 20th. But last night Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse revealed that Comey long ago secretly agreed to testify about Trump-Russia today, March 15th, during Senate Judiciary Subcommittee hearings.

The official Senate website lists the hearing in question as being held by the Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism, and it’s described as “Hearings to examine the Modus Operandi and toolbox of Russia and other autocracies for undermining democracies throughout the world.” But Senator Whitehouse went into greater detail about the hearing last night, revealing to CNN that Comey told him and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham weeks ago that he would officially confirm or deny the existence of an FBI investigation into Trump-Russia during the hearings, and provide details. Of course it’s already known that there are at least three concurrent FBI investigations relating to Trump and Russia.

  19. It's the IDES OF TRUMP!

    Mail a post card today.

    https://www.theidesoftrump.com/#theidesoftrump

"We will show the man, the media, and the politicians how vast our numbers are and we will bury the White House post office in pink slips, all informing the President that he’s fired!

Each of us — every protester from every march, each Congress calling citizen, every boycotter, volunteer, donor, and petition signer — will write a single postcard and put them all in the mail on the same day, March 15th, 2017.

No alternative fact or Russian translation will explain away our record-breaking, officially-verifiable, warehouse-filling flood of fury. Hank Aaron currently holds the record for fan mail, having received 900,000 pieces in a year. We’re setting a new record: over a million pieces in a day.

So sharpen your wit, unsheathe your writing implements, and write from the heart. All of our issues — DAPL, women’s rights, racial discrimination, religious freedom, immigration, economic security, education, the environment, conflicts of interest, the existence of facts — can and should find common cause. That cause is to make it irrefutable that the president’s claim of wide support is a farce.

He may draw a big crowd with empty promises, but the crowd of those that oppose his agenda is exponentially larger. And we will show up to protest, to vote, and to be heard. Again and again and again."

"1. Write one postcard. Write a dozen! Create your own cards, buy them, share them, it doesn’t matter as long as you write #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump on them somewhere.
    2. Take a picture of your cards and post them on social media (tagged with #TheIdesOfTrump or #TheIdes, please). This will help us verify our numbers.
    3. Spread the word! Everyone on Earth can let Washington know their opinion of the President. They can’t build a wall high enough to stop the mail.
    4. Then, on March 15th, mail your cards to:
    The President (for now)
    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
    Washington, DC 20500
    5. Get ready for the NEXT postcard campaign, and the next, and the next — because we’re not going away. We will make ourselves heard by joining together. And together, we will wield the kind of political clout that can’t be ignored."

He owed $38million and we all know little donnie doesn’t pay his bills. Knowing Mr. Art of the Deal he didn’t pay and called one of those companies that get you a deal to pay pennies on the dollar.

I'm sure the committees will give Trump's Justice Dept. as much time as they want to conjure up some evidence when they should actually deny the request and tell the Trump administration that he should have had the "evidence" at his fingertips when he made tweeted the accusation. President Obama always tweeted facts that were substantiated; Trump tweets lies.
