Stephen Bannon becomes the terrorist's poster child to justify religious war with the United States.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

The way al-Qaeda tells it, the West is locked in an existential war with Islam. This is how the terrorist group justifies its violence and its fundamentalist ideology. And now it has found a Westerner to back them up — top Trump adviser Steve Bannon.

Bannon graced the cover (above the fold!) of the most recent al-Qaeda-linked Al Masra newspaper. That prominence, University of Oxford researcher Elisabeth Kendall told Quartz, is “striking.” The piece focused on Bannon's views of Islam, saying he believes that “the forces of Islam cannot be stopped by peaceful means.”

The paper cited a conversation Bannon had with a Danish journalist in May 2016. It also claimed that Bannon believes that the struggle is really between Christianity and Islam, not just Islam and the West. And it suggested that Bannon has “lost confidence in secular Europe, and sees Muslim immigrants as partially responsible for the retreat of traditional Christian values.

”Like other Trump advisers (and former advisers), Bannon has spoken publicly about these beliefs. In 2014, he gave a speech to the Vatican via Skype in which he said, “We’re now, I believe, at the beginning stages of global war against Islamic fascism.” On other occasions, he's suggested that the “Judeo-Christian West” is at war with “expansionist Islamic ideology.”

I don't think it takes a terrorism expert to realize that Donald Trump and his Islamophobic advisors are doing nothing to actually fight terrorism, but quite a lot to inspire future terrorist attacks against the United States.

The war in Iraq did a great job of incentivizing up and coming Jihadists, despite Bush's attempts to argue that the war was not based on religion, but Donald Trump and his advisors are not even attempting to to do that much and with their rhetoric and policy choices seem to be turning Anti-Islamic sentiment up to eleven.

In short any future terrorist attacks in this country can most likely be linked right back to Donald Trump and his merry band Muslim bashers.

    1. Too bad impeachment does not automatically remove his cabinet or other appointees.

In Case of the Removal of the President from Office, or of his Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge the Powers and Duties of the said Office, the Same shall devolve on the Vice President, and the Congress may by Law provide for the Case of Removal, Death, Resignation or Inability, both of the President and Vice President, declaring what Officer shall then act as President, and such Officer shall act accordingly, until the Disability be removed, or a President shall be elected.

Section 1 of the Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution states:

In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

Note: The Twenty-fifth Amendment supersedes the wording of Article II, Section 1, Clause 6 of the Constitution as it does not explicitly state whether the Vice-President becomes an Acting President or would succeed the President.

    2. Whoever the new President is can ask the Cabinet to step down and install his own people.

If resignations were demanded privately, I doubt any would stay. Especially if the new President made it clear their remaining would be treated as extremely hostile. None of these assholes are politicians or public servants. I'm sure some are already looking for ways to leave if Trump goes down. They are not going to want to go down with him. They are going to want to distance themselves from his as much as possible.

  2. Things have been quiet in the US on the terrorism front. Seems like Obama's gentler "lead from behind " formula was not as effective with this sort of thing. They understand 45s way of doing things much better. Those emboldened to threaten and demonstrate, from locals like at Standing Rock to the extremists in terrorist groups are taking a step back. Talk, yes, but no action. Word on the street is that they are scared of the lunatic that has no compunctions or regard for collateral damage to go after them.

‘It’s a tool of an authoritarian’: Nancy Pelosi rips Trump for lying about Obama tapping his phones

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) didn’t mince words on CNN Sunday morning, calling President Donald Trump a liar for accusing former President Barack Obama of tapping the phones in Trump Tower.

Appearing on State of the Union, Pelosi was asked by host Jake Tapper, “Do you have any idea what he is talking about” in regard to about Trump’s tweets.

“The president is the deflector in chief, anything to change the subject from where the heat is,” Pelosi began. “And as and someone who has been engaged in intelligence and the member of the Gang of Eight for a long time, I can tell you that it’s just ridiculous for the president — or President Trump to say that President Obama would ever order any wiretap of an American citizen, any president. That’s just not — we don’t do that.”

“It’s called a ‘wrap-up smear,'” she continued. “You make up something then you have the press write about it, then you say ‘everybody is writing about it.’ It’s a charge. It’s a tool of an authoritarian, to just have them talking about what you want them to be talking about. Rather than Russia, we’re talking about President Obama. And then to take it to the Congress and say, ‘Now you investigate this,’ when he’s in favor of Congress of investigating anything but what do the Russians have on Donald Trump, politically, financially or personally.”

Associated Press refuses to back down after Mike Pence threatens it over his private email scandal

Four months after Palmer Report first began reporting on Mike Pence’s private email scandal,

    http://www.palmerreport.com/news/mike-pence-email-scandal-leaves-trail-corruption-secrets-indiana-washington-dc/100/

it’s finally begun attracting the attention of corporate media outlets this week. Pence responded to the exploding scandal by berating and threatening the Associated Press — but to its credit, it’s refusing to back down.

The scandal centers around Mike Pence’s use of a private email account for government business while he was Governor of Indiana. Pence was inexplicably using a personal America Online email account for official business (AOL? what decade are we in?), and inappropriately used it to exchange confidential information about an FBI briefing involving a terrorist. Pence’s AOL email got hacked around the time he became Donald Trump’s running mate, suggesting Russia was behind it. Pence responded by merely switching to a different AOL email address for government business. And this week it finally hit the fan.

While the Associated Press was reporting on the scandal, it included the AOL email addresses that were used by Mike Pence and his wife, as they both conducted Indiana state business using those addresses. As it turns out, Mrs. Pence is inexplicably still using that same AOL email address, despite the earlier hacking incident. And now Mike Pence is outraged that his wife’s current email address was exposed to the public, even though hackers have already had it for months.

Pence sent a nasty letter to the AP on letterhead from the “Office of the Vice President.” That means he used the power of his office to attack and threaten the media – a trick he appears to have learned from his boss Trump. But the AP is refusing to back down, declining to retract the email address from its story, and refusing to apologize for doing its job.

Maybe his anger about stories involving his wife's current use of an AOL account would be better placed if he yelled at his wife instead. It's not the AP's fault that she's done a really stupid thing.

The bodies keep dropping in and around Donald Trump’s Russia scandal, with two Russian intel officers dying under suspicious circumstances in Moscow and two Russian diplomats dropping dead in New York, among others. But for the first time, one of the known conspirators in the Trump-Russia scandal is specifically claiming that his co-conspirator is dead as a result of his involvement becoming public knowledge.

Andrey Artemenko (alternately translated as Andrii Artemenko and Andriy Artemenko) is a Kremlin-controlled Ukrainian politician who is currently facing potential treason charges in Ukraine for his role in the Trump-Russia scandal. Artemenko conspired with Donald Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen and Trump’s mafia connected former business associate Felix Sater to craft a plot which involved Trump blackmailing the Ukrainian president out of power and installing Artemenko in his place. The meeting was first arranged by Cohen’s brother’s father-in-law, Ukrainian businessman Alex Oronov — who just dropped dead. And Artemenko insists Oronov dead because of the Trump-Russia scandal.

Alex Oronov is definitely dead. We’ve even managed to dig up his memorial service announcement in New York. We’ve also confirmed that he lived in a Donald Trump-owned building in Hollywood, Florida. Andrey Artemenko has made a long, rambling and angry Russian-language Facebook post in which he asserts that Oronov is dead because the New York Times recently outed the Ukraine blackmail plot and its participants.

Artemenko doesn’t state Oronov’s cause of death; we’re still working to track this down. Nor does he accuse anyone by name of killing Oronov. But he’s the eighth person to drop dead during the Trump-Russia scandal who was either part of the conspiracy, or part of the effort to expose the conspiracy, or a prominent member of the Russian government. Considering Vladimir Putin’s habit of killing his opponents, it feels like Artemenko is accusing Putin of murdering Oronov.

Trump’s New Russia Scandal Defense Is to Pose as the Victim of Obama

...But intellectual coherence or consistency are not baseline requirements for the messaging task Trump needs. If the Russia scandal continues to produce revelations of unethical or unpatriotic behavior by his campaign, he will need a response that can rally the conservative base behind him (and thus make Republicans in Congress reluctant to support independent investigations or even impeachment proceedings.) Turning the charge against Obama does that for him. It reframes the issue as a matter of the hated Obama abusing his power to discredit Trump. Any information flowing from the scandal is therefore presumptively tainted by its association with the former president.

The benefit of this line of reasoning is that it does not require conservatives to actually defend Trump’s behavior. All that’s needed is for their distrust of Obama to overcome their misgivings about Trump – a condition that describes virtually the entire Republican base.

...By making himself a victim of Obama’s alleged abuses of power, Trump revives and extends his status as insurgent indefinitely. The most powerful person on Earth will remain the victim of a conspiracy so vast.

For months, through the election and after, Donald Trump has been able to find something new to distract the press and public. All the way back to last summer, when stories of Trump’s Russian entanglements were drowned under attacks on a Gold Star family, it seemed there was always somewhere Trump could go, and nowhere he wouldn’t go, to drag the cameras away from his Putin bromance.

After a week in which it seems every member of Trump’s regime admitted to an embarrassing encounter with the Russian ambassador that they they somehow forgot to talk about, or straight up lied about, Trump raised the stakes on distractions with a “look over there!” that in some ways matches the scale of what he’s distracting from.

On Saturday morning, Donald Trump sent out a series of tweets accusing President Obama of ordering wire taps (actually “tapps”) on his phone previous to the election. As evidence of this amazing, bigger than Watergate level scandal Trump offered … nothing. Instead, he made a comment about Arnold Schwarzenegger—which, just incidentally, also appears to be a lie—then went to play golf.

It was a performance showing such a casual disregard for reality that even usually Trump-friendly venues are wincing. Trump, who earlier kicked most of his advisers into the weeds for the weekend for failing to make the Russia story go away, reversed course and called an all hands on deck meeting.

Trump's main diversion during the campaign was to accuse Hillary Clinton of something email-ish. That won't work now. So he's blaming his own train wreck, which has unfortunately become the country's train wreck, on President Obama. All in true Trump fashion.
