Additional security for Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos may cost as much as 8 million dollars, and she is charging the Education Department for it.

Courtesy of the MSN:

Government officials said Friday that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos requires additional security detail due to a threat to her safety and that it may cost up to $7.8 million through September to protect her.

The U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement that a threat assessment was conducted in February and DeVos was put under additional protection.

The statement did not provide details on the threat or the number of personnel assigned to her. The agency said it will be reimbursed $7.78 million from the Education Department for services from February through September.

The Education Department said that's a projected, not a final figure. The move comes amid a proposal by the Trump administration to cut the department's budget by 13 percent.

The evaluation of DeVos' safety took place after a protester briefly blocked her from entering a public school in the nation's capital.

Okay seriously WTF?

The Education Department needs to shell out as much as eight million dollars because this precious snowflake had never seen protesters before?

Here is video of that protest.

You will notice that nobody touched her, or threatened to harm her in any way.

They simply blocked her from entering the building and shouted "shame" at her.

I am sure that was humiliating, but should her humiliation cost the taxpayers 8 million dollars?

And remember this is on top of all of the money being spent to protect the Trump family and all of Trump's associates.

  1. Can't she just have her mercenary brother comp her a few people as security guards?

This is seriously getting more and more ridiculous.

She is loaded and can afford her own security. The same goes for Trump and his racist clan.

Taxpayers in America should NOT have to pay for ANY of their security protection. Zero! Nada! Not one of them represents me and ALL are a pox upon our nation!

This is absolutely getting out of hand; $8 million is probable more than the whole dept of education budget. She is a millionaire; let her pay for her own security!!!

    Complain to your representatives!!!!!!

The Clinton's are no longer anywhere near serving in the Government, and they are millionaires hundreds of time over, perhaps they should also pay their own security.

    3. False equivalency 1:12 and you know it.

ALL former presidents continue to receive SS protection.

On the other hand this is an unusual, and unnecessary expense.

Bill Clinton served this country as the elected leader of the one of the most powerful nations in the world. He likely he is still targeted by revenge nuts.
Betsy was appointed. The secretary of education has never been threatened before--if Betsy is a financial liability, she should get relieved of her position. She can easily be replaced with a less controversial (and less dumb) person. Or she can absorb the cost of her own protection.

It is not unusual if there are legitimate threats to her safety Gryph, and you know it. Maybe if blogs like yours didn't encourage groups and people who threaten the safety of persons in this administration, there wouldn't be a need for such protection measures.

They actually changed the law about ss coverage for ex presidents, starting with bush jr. Now they only get covered for 10 years.

Trump should be giving the SS free rent in this buildings and free rooms at his hotel. But he's a fat loser not worth a quarter as much as he pretends and so needs the $$$$$.

She has plenty of her own family money. Hell, she bought her cabinet position. Now she's taking money from the already-strapped Education Dept? These people are just unbelievable, they win at our expense. As an aside, I'm finishing my taxes today and I can't tell you how much it frosts my ass that I have to write a check to the IRS but Trump and his marry band of misfits don't pay taxes, but sure as hell know how to spend more money flittin' around the world on our dime making even more money for themselves.

Agreed, 1:26 pm. Millions of people will be sending off payments to the IRS like the good citizens they are while the Trump family and othets like this lightweight "Education Secretary" get by with raping our Treasury Dept. It's disgustng. I'm attending a tax day protest and I encourage others to do so as well. Hopefully there will be as good a turnout as the protests that immediately followed the inauguration of the so-called president.

It is likely the DeVos family pays more in taxes in one year, than all the IMers combined would pay in a lifetime.

Another one of his 'ilk' that should not be covered by SS paid for by taxpayers.

I could care less what happens to the woman - she's anti public education and should be dealt w/immediately!

She and Trump are intent on having horrid education for the minorities of America through the public school system.

They are both racists and know a lot of minority families cannot afford putting their children in private schools.

Fuck them both and impeach Trump ASAP!

Prominent Trump supporter tweeted about the attack an hour before the attack

Just days after Donald Trump Jr. suggested he be given a Pulitzer Prize, Cernovich tweeted, “Sources telling me U.S. attack in Syria planned for tonight, we must stop! #NoMoreWar,” at 7:40 pm Eastern time, an hour and a half before NBC News broke the news of the airstrike.

Trump’s Syrian ‘War’ Was as Much of a Joke as His Presidency

"FYI: Lobbing high explosives around, in limited quantities, has never changed the course of any war, ever. No matter what TV "experts" say."

    '...Whatever, Don.

Firing 59 TLAMs, unopposed, isn't exactly D-Day. Or Peleliu. Or Inchon. Or even Grenada.'

...The U.S. Navy fired 59 Tomahawk Land-Attack Missiles at that airfield, which as has been pointed out, is not the appropriate type of missile for the desired results. But hey, it made the Donald some money by using weapons made by a company in which he holds stock.

Maybe she feels that she's going to sorely need the protection because the protests are continuing ( and she has gotten a vague hint in her coddled, pampered, addled, xtianist brain that maybe, just *maybe* people don't like her too much for SOME reason?!?!? )...for my part, HUZZAH! Keep it up, protesters, and turn up the heat! Maybe she'll get frazzled and quit. This is all part of that 'bleeding the beast' bullsh!t. 'Drain the evil, secular entity of its resources.' By the way, I'm privately calling her our very own Dolores Umbrage...

Poor Betsy is so use to having servants do everything for her; she probable would have a nervous break down going into a grocery store or walking around the block.

As for the comments suggesting her brother provide security, maybe he is, that is why it is so expensive!!!

What is she getting, that are we paying for @ $ 8million for 7 months?

This is how they plan to disband the Dept. Of Education. What this be repeated for everything except the military.
