Donald Trump attempts to distract from the White House Correspondents' dinner, which he is too frightened to attend, by holding another of those celebratory rallies of his.

Courtesy of WaPo:

President Trump on Saturday announced plans to hold a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on April 29, marking his 100th day in office.

The White House did not offer additional details about where the rally would take place or what Trump's focus would be, referring questions to Trump's campaign apparatus.

The campaign listed on its website an event scheduled for that night at 7:30 p.m. in Harrisburg, Pa. The rally will coincide with the annual White House correspondents' dinner, which Trump elected not to attend in a break from tradition.

Yes Donald Trump is avoiding a gathering which traditionally features comedians poking gentle fun at the current president, by holding a rally attended by only his most fervent admirers.

Why doesn't he simply wear a t-shirt saying "I am the most insecure man on the planet" and be done with it?

I would like to point out that even President Bush sat good naturedly while the great Stephen Colbert eviscerated him in front of the entire audience attending the 2006 White House Correspondents' dinner.

And President Obama actually turned the tables on the invited comedians and almost always emerged as the most entertaining speaker of the night.

Of course that was back when we had less thin skinned presidents who actually demonstrated some courage and the ability to poke a little fun at themselves.

Personally I think I will skip both of these events and instead spend my precious TV watching time enjoying Samantha Bee's "Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner" scheduled for the same night.

Wouldn't it be kind of awesome if THIS received the highest ratings of the night?

You don't have to buy, just register. Two tickets per cell phone.

    3. Does that mean any cell phone? Or are they checking area codes?

It would be worth it for a bunch of us to reserve two tickets each and then not show up.

But I imagine they'll have a wait list and at the last minute let anyone in who shows up just to make sure the hall looks as full as possible.

How come the info on the pending 'rally' cannot be discussed by the Trump side?
How are the people being invited - phone calls or specific written invitations? Is he paying each of them for their attendance?

I'm going to watch the Correspondence Dinner and boost their numbers. I cannot imagine Trump having a good turnout for his 'rally' based on the polling numbers he is experiencing.

Has any other president started campaigning for re-election and fund raising the minute he was inaugurated? Wouldn't you think he would spend some time learning how to be president, and then actually being one, before running for re-election?

And, how can anyone give him money for this when it seems there is a good chance he won't finish his first term? What will happen to all the funds raised if he does quit, get impeached, or any other way he might not finish term No. (PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    1. That has nothing to do with Trump's decisions.

It is only about profit. He can make money from being President and that is all he cares about. Hence the long weekends in Florida and all the golf.

If those funds are in a SuperPac, they can go into Trump's private coffers. Yet another way he can personally profit from public office.

A lot of what he's doing shouldn't be paid for by "us, the people" but by his reelection campaign committee. Just another Trump scam. He's nothing but a con artist.

  13. So, he's celebrating his first 100 days while at the same time claiming it isn't 100 days and that 100 days isn't important and should be dismissed as insignificant.

    What a lying putz.

He should have chosen a different location. His approval rating in Pennsylvania is lower than all of the other swing states.

I hope he has a tiny crowd, (that he'll lie about with bigly overinflated numbers) and he's greeting with calls of "Do your job!" and "Lock him up!"

I don't think his minions will be able to shield President Snowflake from reality if he keeps having these "victory" rallies.

Or are they 2020 campaign rallies now?

'Why doesn't he simply wear a t-shirt saying "I am the most insecure man on the planet" and be done with it?'

    -That brought a chuckle. Funny, but true. But, on a more serious note, Raw Story had a troubling thing to relate that chilled me to the bone;

    http://www.rawstory.com/2017/04/you-just-said-you-did-ap-busts-trump-for-lying-about-watching-cnn-two-minutes-after-he-admitted-it/

For the record, I don't think he was lying. I think he's displaying the signs of impending dementia. It looks *exactly* how my own father behaved when he was diagnosed with it, and he was dead and buried with military honors eighteen short months later. I had to assume legal guardianship over him since he became a wander risk.

Think of the mental stumbling he's been doing lately. It's getting worse, and it's bound to get much worse.

He's becoming more and more every day a candidate for the implementation of article 4 of the 25th Amendment.

President Donald Trump’s first 100 days are — by any measurable standards — looking an awful lot like a failure to many observers, but Trump himself insists that everything is running perfectly.

According to a feature in Politico magazine on Sunday, Trump’s constant insistence that everything is great — even in the face of bankruptcies, closings and collapsed ventures — is a key to his success and always has been.

“How, wonder people who are even fleetingly familiar with presidential history, can Trump look back at the past three months and seriously say they were the best ever?” asked Politico’s Michael Kruse. “To others, though, who have worked with him, have been watching him for decades and know him well, nothing could be more familiar.”

“I just shake my head,” one former Trump casino executive told Kruse, “and I say, ‘Well, that’s Donald Trump.’”

Kruse compiled a record of the many, many times the president — when faced with business closings, the collapse of his airline, his steak brand, his bottled water brand, his sports team ownership and on and on — has simply said, “Things are great. Business is great” and somehow gotten away with it.

These statements, Kruse wrote, “are potent shots of unadulterated, time-tested Trump —
short, confident declarations of success, in spite of objective evidence of failure, uttered with total disregard for the parsing and fact-checking that constitutes so much of the coverage of him and his administration. Biographers, ex-employees, veteran New York City gossip columnists, public relations professionals and political operatives from both major parties say recognizing this well-established pattern of behavior—stumble, proclaim victory, move on—is imperative to understanding Trump.”

Trump never feels like he’s failing as long as his bottomless need for attention is being met. Furthermore, the president “has perfected a narrative style in which he doesn’t merely obscure reality — he tries to change it with pronouncements that act like blaring, garish roadside billboards… (H)e has defined himself as a success no matter what — by talking the loudest and the longest, and by insisting on having the first word and also the last.”

The approach has worked at every turn thus far in Trump’s adult life, Politico said. Many people who are familiar with Trump and have watched him in the long term say that he may well pull it off, powering through his actual failures and missteps with a relentless barrage of PR.

“He creates his own reality,” former Trump Organization vice president Barbara Res said. “He created the reality that he was this big, successful businessman, and now he’s creating the reality that he’s a big, accomplished president.”

Republican strategist Rick Wilson, one of Trump’s fiercest critics, said, “He’s gotten away with this game his whole life.”

“We’re not even close to how bad it’s going to get,” Wilson said. “It’s going to get substantially more difficult to keep selling this crap. He’s not dealing with some random vendors in New Jersey. He’s dealing with the American people. But I will say this: His cult has shown a great willingness to be a cult.”

Jack O’Donnell — the former casino executive — told Kruse that Trump will use the approach for as long as it works.

“If you or I were sitting there,” he said, “we would have trouble staring into the camera and lying. He doesn’t.”

“When I see it’s such false reporting and such bad reporting and false reporting that I’ve developed an ability that I never thought I had,” Trump insisted. “I don’t watch things that are unpleasant. I just don’t watch them.”

“I don’t watch CNN anymore. I don’t watch MSNBC anymore. I don’t watch [negative] things, and I never thought I had that ability. I always thought I’d watch.”
