Ivanka Trump's clothing line is manufactured in a Chinese sweatshop that makes its employees work 60 hour weeks for around 62 dollars.

Courtesy of WaPo:

Workers at a factory in China used by the company that makes clothing for Ivanka Trump’s fashion line and other brands worked nearly 60 hours a week to earn wages of little more than $62 a week, according to a factory audit released Monday.

The factory’s 80 workers knit clothes for the contractor, G-III Apparel Group, which has held the exclusive license to make the Ivanka Trump brand’s $158 dresses, $79 blouses and other clothes since 2012. The company also makes clothes for Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and other brands.

Inspectors with the Fair Labor Association, an industry monitoring group whose members include Apple and Nike, found two dozen violations of international labor standards during a two-day tour of the factory in October, saying in a report that workers faced daunting hours, high turnover, and pay near or below China’s minimum wage.

The inspection offers a rare look at the working conditions of the global manufacturing machine that helped make Trump’s fashion brand a multimillion-dollar business.

Its release also comes as the president’s daughter has sought to cast herself as both a champion of workplace issues and a defender of her father’s “buy American, hire American” agenda. Trump, whose book “Women Who Work” debuts next week, was in Germany on Tuesday for public discussions about global entrepreneurship and empowerment.

“We can add billions to the global economy by creating an enabling environment, increasing women’s labour force participation and business ownership, and improving the productivity of their work,” Trump wrote in a Financial Times essay Monday.

Well it would certainly be hard to improve productivity past 60 hour work weeks now wouldn't it?

And since it is quite likely that a clothing manufacturing plant would hire mostly women, I guess this is how Ivanka Trump empowers women in the workforce.

Clearly Trump's own High Society Barbie is just as full of shit as her Cheeto tinged father.

To hear her talk at that W20 Summit in that 'Voice', with the occasional smile thrown in (boy-oh-boy must she have had voice training for *that*!), drove me nuts! But if they'd dropped THIS bomb prior, I doubt that she'd have the intestinal fortitude to show her surgically-enhanced face...or maybe she would after all. Those Trumps have *absolutely* no conscience, and *zero* self-awareness.

So why wasn't this broadcast far and wide in October? This unethical, cheating family does not belong anywhere near our government.

I believe Ivanka could even be more dangerous than her shitty father because she is more polished and controlled. She speaks reasonably well and does not go off on Twitter rants but she is every bit the con artist and grifter that her father is. She's also equally ignorant and incurious about how the world works outside her little bubble. I certainty don't trust her any more than her daddy/hubby.

    1. Agree 100%, 2:45 PM! People are deceived because Ivanka isn't cray-cray, but she is merely a younger, feminine chip off the old block. DJT is Jim Crow; Ivanka is Jamie Crow - still mean, still racist, still demeaning women - but appearing professional, rational, normal. Like you, I don't trust her any more than Mango Mussolini.

Wanna bet he has plans to buy up the land for himself and build his crappy resorts.

I don’t recall any former presidents so hell bent on destroying the work done by his predecessors like this moron.
    =====================================

Trump order sets up legal showdown with vast lands at stake

By JOHN FLESHER - The Associated Press

President Donald Trump's order for the government to review national monuments created by several of his predecessors sets up a legal showdown over whether one chief executive has the power to undo another's decisions. At stake are federal lands revered for their natural beauty and historical significance.

The review goes well beyond a few declarations made in the waning months of Barack Obama's term. It covers 24 monuments established by three former presidents over more than two decades. A closer look at the issues:

    .... LEGAL PRINCIPLES
Some monuments have been reduced in size over the years, either by presidential order or by Congress, while others have been enlarged. But no president has tried to eliminate a predecessor's monument. If Trump does so, his move will almost certainly be challenged in court.

The Antiquities Act does not explicitly say whether a president can nullify a monument proclamation. A legal analysis commissioned by the National Parks Conservation Association says no, pointing to a 1938 opinion by then-Attorney General Homer Cummings that a monument designation has the force of law and can be reversed only by Congress. A House report accompanying the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 agrees.

But a study for the conservative American Enterprise Institute released in March argues that when Congress authorizes the executive branch to write regulations, the power to repeal them generally can be assumed. That's especially so, it says, when a president is correcting a predecessor's act that exceeded what a law intended such as creating vast monuments when the Antiquities Act says they should consist of "the smallest area compatible with the proper care and management of the objects to be protected."
    ___
    WHAT'S NEXT
Trump's order directs Zinke to review monument designations involving 100,000 acres or more. The interior secretary will submit an interim report within 45 days focusing on the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah, which Obama established last year. A final report is due in 120 days.

Zinke says the report will recommend whether any monuments should be abolished or resized. He promises an open-minded approach and says he remains opposed to selling any federal land or transferring it to state or local control.

Congress might weigh in as well. Numerous bills on the issue were introduced in the previous session, including measures to prevent the president from establishing or expanding monuments in particular states and to require consent of Congress or state legislatures.

"worked nearly 60 hours a week to earn wages of little more than $62 a week,"

There is a high demand for Ivanka's clothes and Americans won't work those hours for that pay so of course she had to go to a place where she can get her clothes made to meet the demand. It is about economics, not about exploitation.

High demand? Hardly. In any case, one thing this country needs is to wean itself off Walmart-style consumerism, as 5:36 points out. Loads of crap made cheaply, or fewer things made with quality standards? That's our choice. Our current first family is an example of the first choice, loaded with crap.

What's hilarious is that Ivanka has a Chinese fangirl club and women over there just love her. Blond hair and big white teeth, the Chinese can't resist that! If no one else buys her crap they will, and hell, they're all pretty used to working for peanuts for big American companies. How much do you think they get paid for making our iPhone parts? It's the way their economy works. If they suddenly started making $10/hour it would break their economy.

"For decades, the United States has worked with other countries to eliminate nepotism. There’s a good reason for that: Nepotism breeds corruption.

“You’ve seen it in countries all over the world where they’ve appointed family members, whether it’s their son, daughter, in-laws — it provides for tremendous opportunities for corruption,” said Shruti Shah, an international anti-corruption expert at Coalition for Integrity, a good-government nonprofit. “People who want to curry favor find their way to provide favors to family members as a way to get closer to the person in power.”

But President Donald Trump, who has entrusted more power to his family members than any recent president, puts that agenda at risk. “I like nepotism,” Trump told Larry King in 2006, the year he replaced his “Apprentice” costar, Trump company executive Carolyn Kepcher, with his daughter Ivanka Trump."

Most of these sweatshops have dormitories that they force the workers to live in and deduct their room and board, so in reality they maybe working for $0/week.

A conservative woman called into a conservative , radio talk show two days ago aboutIvanka's voice.
Said she sounds like she locked herself in her closet, sitting on the floor in front of a candle
talking while in a trance. Wanted to know why she talks like that , that it is aggravating .Also felt that Ivanka should stay out of politics and the White House, that she is not qualified and has ended up a cog in the wheel.
