Mitch McConnell triggers "nuclear option" to pave way for Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

Courtesy of ABC News:

The Senate has altered the longstanding practice for confirming Supreme Court justices after Democrats today blocked the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch.

In order to bypass Democrats’ opposition, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., first invoked the so-called nuclear option. The Senate then voted to change Senate precedent on voting on Supreme Court cloture votes from the 60-vote threshold to a simple majority of 51 votes.

Republicans on their own did not have enough votes to end the floor debate on Gorsuch’s nomination, a move known as cloture, under the current rules requiring 60 votes. The first Senate vote to end debate (cloture) on Gorsuch's nomination failed with a vote of 55-45.

This is what the Democrats wanted all along.

All of that talk about the Democrats overplaying their hand, and how this was going to bite them in the ass down the road, was all BS because the Democrats KNEW that they had to vote against this nomination to placate the base, and that in so doing McConnell would change the rules moving forward.

Now I would suggest that the Democrats keep this same tactic up for every other nominee and policy proposal that Trump sends their way until these investigation into his collusion with the Russians has reached completion.

I just hope that Gorsuch enjoys occupying Merrick Garland's stolen Supreme Court seat.

Today I heard Andrea Mitchell refer to the vacancy on the Supreme Court as "Scalia's Seat" as if it was some endowed chair at a university or something.

It was fucking Obama's seat to fill and the Repubes stole this seat, like they steal elections and whatever else they can. Fuck every last one of them and especially Mitch McYurtle.

Oh, and if I hear McCain crying about what are those mean Democrats making us do to our beloved senate traditions one more time, I'm going to puke so hard, packets of barf will come spewing out of your browser window.

When you have to rig a vote to win you might as well be called a liar and cheater. Ask trump. Republicans are thee most disgusting lousy party in usa history.

Are you kidding me, if he was worried about decency he wouldn't have accepted the nomination. Imagine going through life being nominated by an illegitimate president.

No, all he cares about is himself and POWER.

Can you imagine the outrage on the right if a Democratically controlled Congress completely refused to vote on a Republican president's Supreme Court nominee and threw out some absurd BS about a 'lame duck' presidency? They let Garland's nomination sit without action for 294 days. They would be blowing gaskets in rage continuously. Republicans don't want a democracy, they just want to rule by hook or by crook. Mitch and gang are lying hypocritical corrupt pieces of excrement.

    1. What I'd like to see?

2018 Democrats sweep the polls, then again in 2020.

So going into 2020 we have a Democratic controlled House and Senate and a Democratic President.

Then when the next Supreme Court seat opens up, which you know it will, the president nominates Merrick Garland and the Democrats push it through with a majority.

McConnell better now try to put the 60 vote cloture back before the Republicans lose their majority.

A bonus would be for enough Republicans to be disgusted with this latest move that they vote against Gorsucks, but I know that isn't going to happen. They are their leader and their leader is Yertle McConnell, Mr. Win at all Costs.

OMG, would these idiots get it together, yesterday Tillerson said the exact opposite.

As for the so-called president, his response is “I guess something should happen”, could he have given a more wimpy answer.
    =====================================
Tillerson: ‘It would seem’ Assad should no longer lead Syria

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson suggested Thursday that President Bashar Assad should no longer lead Syria in the wake of the chemical attack that killed dozens there and said "steps are underway" in the international community to remove him from power.

“Assad's role in the future is uncertain, clearly,” Tillerson said, explaining that U.S. officials believe Assad’s regime orchestrated the attack. “With the acts that he has taken, it would seem that there would be no role for him to govern the Syrian people.”.....

President Donald Trump did not detail his own thinking on how to respond to the situation in Syria while speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday, according to a pool report. He reiterated that “what Assad did is terrible” and suggested that some action is needed.

“I think what happened in Syria is a disgrace to humanity, and he's there, and I guess he's running things, so I guess something should happen,” Trump said.
