So is Bill O'Reilly simply on vacation while his advertisers run like rats from a sinking ship, or is he on his way out at Fox News?

Courtesy of New York Magazine:

Lawyers for the law firm Paul, Weiss, hired last summer by 21st Century Fox to investigate Roger Ailes, are currently doing a “deep dive” investigation into O’Reilly’s behavior. They’re focused now on sexual harassment claims by O’Reilly guest Wendy Walsh after she reported her claims via the company’s anonymous hotline.

Fox News co-president Bill Shine has been working hard to keep O’Reilly, sources said. But O’Reilly’s future is in the hands of the Murdochs. “It’s up to the family,” the senior Fox News staffer said. The Murdochs are presently divided over how to handle it. Two highly placed Fox News sources say 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch would like O’Reilly to be permanently taken off the air, while his father, Rupert, and older brother, Lachlan, are more inclined to keep him. (A spokesperson for the Murdochs declined to comment.)

That dynamic — James pushing for swift action, while Rupert resists — played out last summer in the Ailes scandal. James, of course, got his way with Ailes. With more than three dozen advertisers boycotting O’Reilly, Fox staffers speculate the same may happen to O’Reilly, perhaps as early as during his vacation. “The assumption is that he’ll exit in a non-embarrassing way,” one senior Fox News staffer told me.

Wow! Wouldn't that be something, first Roger Ailes and now Bill O'Reilly?

Could this be the end of Fox News as we know it?

Damn, I certainly hope so.

About the only one who's at least trying to be a journalist is Shepard Smith. Maybe he could get a job with a real news organization. Kinda surprised he hasn't been booted out on his ear already because he seems to have some morals and ethics.

Bill O'Reilly cuts back his schedule

Fox News plans a 'Friday Factor' spinoff with rotating hosts in his time slot.

Bill O’Reilly’s future with Fox News may still be unclear, but the star of the channel’s prime time line up — and the host with the highest ratings — has quietly made one major change recently: he is now hosting four days a week, instead of five.

The 67-year-old O’Reilly has only hosted his program twice on Friday nights over the last five months. And a person familiar with the matter said a new Friday-night spinoff of O’Reilly’s show called “Friday Factor” had been planned but not yet announced, with a rotating group of hosts filling his Friday slot.

For months now, guest hosts — among them Eric Bolling, Jesse Watters, Chris Wallace and Bret Baier — have been filling in for O’Reilly on his show's Friday evening broadcasts. Since mid-November, O’Reilly has only hosted last Friday and Inauguration Day in January. In the months prior to the election, O’Reilly was also often absent from the Friday broadcasts. Bolling and Watters have been the most frequent hosts on Friday nights and would be part of the rotating “Friday Factor” hosts, the person familiar with the arrangement said.

Prediction prof: Trump will be impeached

The professor who took hell for predicting President Donald Trump has a much longer case for predicting President Mike Pence — and it’s all in his new book, out next week.

Allan Lichtman, a professor at American University, reached meme-status last fall for predicting long before anyone else that Trump would win, using a formula based on the popularity of the party in control of the White House that accurately predicted the eight previous presidential elections. Now Lichtman wants everyone to pay attention to the rest of what came through his crystal ball — that Trump will now be impeached.

Trump turns to CEOs amid White House turmoil

Business leaders are making a push for moderation — and meeting with some success.

Wall Street titan Stephen Schwarzman has recently taken on a new, informal job: counselor to the president.

The CEO of Blackstone Group, who has known Trump for years, has become so close to the president that the two sometimes talk several times a week, covering everything from Chinese trade to tax policy to immigration.

White House and New York business officials say Schwarzman was critical to Trump keeping the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, also known as the Dreamers program, with Trump making the decision after a call with the hedge fund billionaire. The two also recently chatted at Mar-a-Lago about a possible reorganization of the White House, two people familiar with the meeting say, though the conversation didn't include specific names.

Schwarzman's growing influence in Trump's circle is welcome news to New York business leaders and moderate Republicans, who want the president to abandon his nationalist positions and embrace a more nonideological White House amid lagging poll ratings and infighting dominating the West Wing.

Can someone reacquaint Donald Trump with Steve Bannon, his ideologist whom the president now professes barely to know?

Trump's jaw-dropping public distancing from Bannon in the New York Post the other day is the latest twist in a struggle that is astonishing even by the standards of a White House that deserves its own Chris Buckley novel.

For Bannon, the internal fight with the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner is going about as well as could be expected, which is to say it couldn't be going much worse.

No one can know for sure how this ends. Perhaps it's all papered over, or maybe Bannon keeps his head down to fight another day. But it's hard to see how Kushner doesn't prevail in one form or other, together with the faction including his wife, Ivanka Trump, the influential economic adviser and former Goldman Sachs president, Gary Cohn, and deputy national security adviser, Dina Powell.

House Democrats want Kushner's security clearance suspended
A handful of House Democrats are calling on federal authorities to suspend Jared Kushner’s security clearance amid a wide-ranging probe into Trump associates' contacts with Russian officials.

President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser failed to disclose numerous foreign contacts when he applied for top secret clearance, including at least two meetings with high-profile Russians during Trump's transition to the White House, according to a New York Times report cited by the lawmakers. It is, they noted, a felony to intentionally conceal such meetings on a national security form.

"Mr. Kushner’s lack of candor about meetings with Russian officials appears to be part of a larger pattern of dissembling and deception on Russian contacts from the Trump team, and we believe the public deserves the truth about what connection, if any, exists between these incidents," five House Democrats said in a statement accompanying the missive.

The letter, led by Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), is an attempt to keep public attention on Trump’s ties to Russia, despite a week in which tension between the president and Russian leaders flared over a U.S. military strike in Syria. Democratic Reps. Ted Lieu of California, Jerrold Nadler of New York, Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Peter Welch of Vermont also signed the letter.

Bannon’s bad for business: Donald Trump’s kids want his adviser gone because he’s hurting the Trump Organization’s image
Trump's heirs reportedly want Steve Bannon gone because it will hurt their inheritance

It appears there are business reasons as well as political ones behind chief strategist Steve Bannon’s fall from grace in the administration of President Donald Trump.

A big reason why Trump’s three eldest children — Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka — have joined son-in-law Jared Kushner in pushing for Bannon’s ouster is that they are displeased with how the failures of Trump’s early weeks have affected the family brand, according to a report by The Washington Post. Even as the Trump sons travel the world to expand the Trump business empire at taxpayer expense, they find themselves worrying that the Trump name is losing its luster — and with it, their ability to build more hotels and engage in other potentially lucrative real estate ventures.

This could at least in part explain why Trump publicly humiliated Bannon in a recent New York Post interview. Bannon is now struggling to keep not only his influence in the Trump administration but even his job, according to The Washington Post. As former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (who is a close adviser to Trump) told the paper, “Bannon is a brilliant pirate who has had a huge impact. But White Houses, in the end, are like the U.S. Navy — corporate structures and very hard on pirates.”

The impetus behind Bannon’s waning influence is his ongoing feud with Trump’s son-in-law and close adviser Jared Kushner. Joined by Kushner’s wife Ivanka, economic adviser Gary Cohn and deputy national security adviser Dina Powell, the four represent an attempt to push the Trump administration’s more toward the center, according to a report by Politico. By contrast, Bannon is a staunchly populist and nationalist figure, beloved by the alt-right and pushing for far-right policies and someone who has been blamed for Trump’s ongoing political woes by the Kushner-led centrist faction.

His kids SHOULD be worried. They will be spending an enormous amount of money to build all these places. The hotels will attract business only as long as their father is in office. As soon as he is no longer president, no one will feel the need, or have the desire, to stay at a Trump property.

Warner takes Trump-Russia investigation to the masses

The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee tells voters the probe is ‘the most important thing I’ve ever done.’

At a seafood restaurant in historic Yorktown, Virginia, this week, constituents peppered Sen. Mark Warner with questions about bread-and-butter issues like health care and taxes. But Warner also made sure to warn them at length about the perils of bots, trolls and fake news.

His preoccupation is understandable given Warner’s high-profile perch these days as the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, investigating Russian meddling in the election.

To give credence to the Russia investigation, Warner is presenting himself as a force for fairness and bipartisanship: At one point he half-jokingly advised a state Democratic Party official in the room to “maybe occasionally vote Republican.” But the Senate probe, of course, could have huge partisan implications if it uncovers evidence of coordination between Moscow and President Donald Trump’s campaign.

It’s a delicate balance for the two-term, 62-year-old Warner, who a decade ago was seen as potential White House material and perhaps, depending on how his current project goes, might be viewed that way again.

“This goes to the heart of our democracy,” Warner said. “There was nothing about Vladimir Putin that was pro-Republican. Vladimir Putin wants a weaker America — economically, socially. And this is not just happening in the United States.”
