Yale historian claims it is "pretty much inevitable" that Trump will attempt to take over the country by declaring a state of emergency.

This is from a much longer interview with Yale history professor Timothy Snyder:

Q: In your book you discuss the idea that Donald Trump will have his own version of Hitler’s Reichstag fire to expand his power and take full control of the government by declaring a state of emergency. How do you think that would play out?

Snyder: Let me make just two points. The first is that I think it’s pretty much inevitable that they will try. The reason I think that is that the conventional ways of being popular are not working out for them. The conventional way to be popular or to be legitimate in this country is to have some policies, to grow your popularity ratings and to win some elections. I don’t think 2018 is looking very good for the Republicans along those conventional lines — not just because the president is historically unpopular. It’s also because neither the White House nor Congress have any policies which the majority of the public like.

This means they could be seduced by the notion of getting into a new rhythm of politics, one that does not depend upon popular policies and electoral cycles.

Whether it works or not depends upon whether when something terrible happens to this country, we are aware that the main significance of it is whether or not we are going to be more or less free citizens in the future.

My gut feeling is that Trump and his administration will try and that it won’t work. Not so much because we are so great but because we have a little bit of time to prepare. I also think that there are enough people and enough agencies of the government who have also thought about this and would not necessarily go along.

I have been working to keep the hyperbole at manageable levels since Trump was elected, but I think most of us probably feel that the idea Trump will attempt to declare a state of emergency is more than just a little likely.

After all look how much control George W. Bush had over the government after 9-11.

However I take solace in what the professor says about how attentive we all are, and how prepared we will be if such an event takes place.

And with Fox News under new management, and currently being reorganized, Trump also may not have the propaganda arm at his disposal which served the Bush Administration so well.

It may take awhile. We are contributing $ that we cannot necessarily afford to special elections .
We don't know what else we can do at this point.
They are traitors. Our time will come and we will resist and fight if necessary. Hang in their. We are not done! Never give up!

I wake up every morning hoping he'll be led away from the WH...the PEOPLE's HOUSE! Trump can't handle truth or the job of POTUS. Just this week he's lied about preconditions being included in his new healthcare bill and he's threatening a shutdown. My god, what leader would use those tactics? And, his daughter admits to hoping that she's a calming influence on her father in the west wing. Again, who does that?...even in business? Don't know how much longer our country can take this baffoon.

As of 6:30 pm news, he has backtracked on the shut down, because the budget is now a good thing. He can’t shut down the government anyway, that is the job of Congress.

I am getting immune to his rants because like the weather, wait 5 mins and he changes his story.

What disturbs me is why is he changing his story, because he forgot what he previously said, mouth is flapping but brain isn’t working or has someone “schooled him on the truth” ?

AP source: Yates to testify on warning White House on Flynn
By ERIC TUCKER - The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) Former acting attorney general Sally Yates is expected to testify to Congress next week that she expressed alarm to the White House about President Donald Trump's national security adviser's contacts with the Russian ambassador, which could contradict how the administration has characterized her counsel.

Yates is expected to recount in detail her Jan. 26 conversation about Michael Flynn and that she saw discrepancies between the administration's public statements on his contacts with ambassador Sergey Kislyak and what really transpired, according to a person familiar with that discussion and knowledgeable about Yates's plans for her testimony. The person spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt the testimony.

The person said Yates is expected to say that she expressed alarm to White House counsel Don McGahn about Flynn's conversation with Kislyak. White House officials have said that Yates merely wanted to give them a "heads-up" about Flynn's Russian contacts.

Flynn was ousted weeks after the Yates conversation with White House officials. They initially maintained Flynn had not discussed Russian sanctions with Kislyak during the transition period, but after published reports said the opposite, then admitted he misled them about the nature of that call.

Yates's scheduled appearance before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee, alongside former intelligence director James Clapper, will provide her first public account of the conversation with McGahn. It will also represent her first testimony before Congress since Yates, an Obama administration holdover, was fired in January for refusing to defend Trump's travel ban.

She was previously scheduled to appear in March before a House committee investigating Russian interference in the presidential election, but that hearing was canceled.

  5. We are forearmed, learning from Bush+ 9/11. Heard yesterday that Margaret Atwood's book "The Handmade's Tale" (on which the new movie was based) has sold out on Amazon (unheard of, apparently) and is being quickly reprinted again because the demand is so high.

Dystopia could happen and people are more aware now they have to resist and fight for democracy. Are there enough of us? Will Trump supporters realize they were duped have regrets? Perhaps. But it's hard for conned people to admit it.

92 million people did not vote in 2016. Because Cynicism? Futility? Anger at all politicians?
    Voter suppression?

These upcoming elections will be key to seeing if people are more aware of what is at stake. But 3X as many Democrats need to vote to have a chance to win against voter suppression and dark money and lying adverts against Dem. candidates.

Trump Mocked For Inventing Fake Civil War Battle On His Golf Course – There’s A Plaque And Everything (TWEETS)

...Historians say that literally no one has ever died in that crossing, but Trump complains that someone might have died at some point. “How would they know that?” Trump said angrily after learning that historians say his stupid plaque is FAKE NEWS. “Were they there?” Trump says “numerous historians” have confirmed the “River of Blood.” He did not know any of their names. Embarrassingly for Trump, even Golf Digest took the time to debunk the blood river.

Sadly, this is not the first mass killing invented by the Trump Administration. With the Bowling Green Massacre, the Atlanta massacre, and that thing that happened in Sweden and now the “River of Blood,” it seems that we may not be able to trust this administration, shockingly. Naturally, the Internet finds this news hilarious:

Sean Spicer HILARIOUSLY Branded As Chickensh*t After He Bolts From Briefing (TWEETS) (VIDEO)

Oh, Mr. Spicey. Our favorite press secretary because we love to hate him. His gymnastics around Donald Trump’s antics and gaffes (along with his own) are already the stuff of legend, and not in a good way. It makes his relationship with the press acrimonious, and he may well have just about had it with that. Today, he turned chickenshit, tucked his tail between his legs, and ran away from his own press briefing, leaving the White House Press Corps absolutely stunned.

Cries of, “Sean! Hey Sean! Seeeeeean! Ah come on, Sean! He walked away!” are among just a few of the loud and disappointed protests coming from a press corps that undoubtedly had a squillion uncomfortable questions for him.

    Watch below:

OT?"The lead story in the article also has an Anchorage connection. That flight, KAL 107, refueled in Anchorage before it was shot down."

  17. Funny. I said Trump would burn the Reichstag and try to eliminate elections shortly after the results of last November. He'll never be re-elected in 2020. The only way for him to stay in power is to eliminate the 2020 elections. And yes, things have been going so poorly that eliminating 2018 is their best bet, but I think it might be too late for that.

The only question is why will he decide to do as the "big thing".

I think we need to be very worried about North Korea and nukes.

BTW, what is this with Kim Jong Un now being so admired by Trump? WTF?
