Donald Trump's lawyer misrepresents James Comey's testimony to smear the former FBI director and vindicate his client.

Courtesy of The Hill:

President Trump’s private lawyer on Thursday disputed key details of former FBI Director James Comey’s bombshell under-oath testimony and attacked him for "unilaterally and surreptitiously" leaking memos recounting his conversations with the president.

Marc Kasowitz, the president’s outside attorney, said that Trump “never told” Comey that he needed his loyalty “in form or substance.”

He added that Trump "never, in form or substance, directed or suggested" that Comey should stop investigating anyone, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

I'm sorry did this guy not watch the same testimony that I watched?

Because in the testimony I watched Comey said that he understood Donald Trump was telling him unequivocally that he wanted him to drop the investigation into Michael Flynn.

The lawyer also accused Comey of “unilaterally and surreptitiously” leaking memos recounting his "privileged conversations" with Trump.

“He also testified that immediately after he was terminated, he authorized his friends to leak the contents of these memos to the press in order to ‘prompt the appointment of a special counsel,’” Kasowitz said.

He said there were and remain "those in government" who are committed to undermining Trump "with selective and illegal leaks of classified information" and communications.

For the record Comey only "leaked" his own unclassified notes of his own interactions with Trump.

And thanks to The Donald he is no longer employed by the Federal government so he cannot be among "those in the government" who are leaking to the press.

By the way in the tweet this lawyer sent out before his public statement he misspelled his boss's title.
If only Trump could have convinced one of those high end lawyers with good spelling to represent him.

In other news Trump's Spicey replacement spokesperson, claims that Trump is not a liar:

White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said “the president is not a liar” after former FBI director James Comey blasted the White House for telling “lies, plain and simple” about the circumstances surrounding his firing last month.

“No, I can definitively say the president is not a liar,” Sanders told reporters at the White House during an off-camera briefing Thursday. “It’s frankly insulting that that question would be asked.”

Well frankly it's insulting to be lied to by the president, or the president's surrogates, virtually every day.

And damn why does that sound so familiar?

Oh yeah! Well it certainly worked out for ole Tricky Dick, so I imagine that Trump can look forward to a similar outcome.

Despite a Politico report that claims Republicans are untroubled by fired FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before Congress, conservative journalist Bill Kristol claims the GOP is anything but.

“I happen to have seen various GOP Senators this afternoon,” Kristol, who is editor-at-large of the conservative Weekly Standard, said in a tweet. “Trust me: Basically, they’re not just concerned. They’re pretty terrified.”

Ohio Dan has no conscience whatsoever- he's totally venal, it's pointless trying to appeal to him. He will do as McConnell tells him. Lisa Murkowski will frown and try to look concerned but McConnell will offer her a sweetener and she will fall into line, just like she always does. Neither of them gives a dry fuck about Alaskans' health insurance or even their health.

    PLAY THE TAPES OR ADMIT
    THERE ARE NO TAPES

    The Hill:
    June 08, 2017 - 04:29 PM EDT

Schumer to Trump: Play Comey tapes or admit they don't exist

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on Thursday that if President Trump disagrees with former FBI Director James Comey, he should publicly release any tapes of their conversations.

"It's awfully curious that no one from the president's team will either confirm or deny the existence of the tapes when the tapes are the only way to prove that Mr. Comey's testimony, which came under oath, are false or misleading," Schumer said.

He added in a direct shot at Trump that if the president disagrees "with anything the director said today, play the tapes for all of America to hear or admit that there were no tapes."

The White House has refused to confirm whether or not Trump recorded his meetings with Comey after the president hinted last month that there might be "tapes" of their conversations.

James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!

I watched the entire Comey testimony and anyone with half a brain should be appalled that we have a liar for a President who would slander and be at war with the head of the FBI.Who is willing to shrug off Russia's interference in our elections.

If Trump is innocent he would say he welcomes this investigation and he will spend his time getting things done. He would offer throw himself before a commitee .We all know he is a liar and yes a traitor.

Trying to make Comey an honorable man who served his Country under Bush and Obama. He served under an Republican and a Democrat.

This is a stain on America. If we accept such low standards from a President now we can never go back.We cannot except the excuse that the President is "Learning his job" This is not Burger King people. A failed experiment of a so called business man who hired others to carry the load will not, doe's not cut it.

We see a wimp tweeting every day like some God Damn reality tv show.We see Rebublicans trying to back him up putting party before Country.

Think about the harm this shit show can accomplish in a year. In five months he has pissed off our allies, has accomplished nothing but tweeted his butt hurt, yeah a real leader.

Trump cannot control this now. It is totally out of his hands and is growing on its own. Not even his Russian friends, those who bailed him out when he was bankrupt for the 7th or 8th time can come to his aid this time.

Soon those who he considered, "loyal" will begin to quietly back away, then they will be singing.

Trump will soon learn how many "real" friends he has.

FOR TRUMP, IS THERE LIFE AFTER JARED KUSHNER?

Kushner may be becoming political kryptonite, and the White House may be happier without him. But do we really want the “deep state” handling H.R.?

Let's agree that one of the finest qualities of Jared Kushner is his tailoring. The fit is so good. Even with bespoke work, that’s hard to achieve. And his tall and slim form points to someone who stays fit and watches his SmartPoints. But things seem to go downhillfrom there. I’ve never met the man, so apply all due skepticism, but few in the White House seem to like him much, nor do former colleagues. Even Donald Trump, the father of Kushner’s wife, seems to have recently cooled a bit on his son-in-law, according to The New York Times. All of this is coming to a head in the wake of aWashington Post report that Kushner proposed setting up a secret line of communication between Moscow and the Trump transition team last December, possibly using Russian facilities at which to do it. Meanwhile, Kushner’s enemies, sensing vulnerability and opportunity, are unsheathing their blades and saying unkind things about their rival.....

Jared has indicated that he and Ivanka Trump are committed to reviewing every six months whether to stay in Washington, and the half-year mark approaches. Despite a reputation for being “indispensable” to Trump, a notion aided by Kushner’s deft self-promotion, Kushner’s primary virtue appears to be that he can be trusted to place the interests of his father-in-law ahead of his own, at least in the big picture. Unlike any other staffer, he has to keep showing up for the Trump family Thanksgiving dinner....

(Jared).... He’s also got a lot of baggage in his relatives. Of course, Kushner can’t help that his dad went to federal prison about a decade ago for evading taxes and taking revenge on his sister by hiring a prostitute to seduce her husband and sending her a videotape of the tryst. (DAMNNN) Stuff happens.

The rubes of America, along with the Republican Party, with help from Vladimir Putin, did this to us. I like to remind myself and others that over 2 million more people voted for Clinton than Trump.

It won't get us out of this mess, but Trump doesn't have popular support and never will. Americans are being held hostage by Trump and his cronies. I don't think this can go on for four more years. We have to continue to hope and voice our outrage at this administration.

The Five Lines of Defense Against Comey—and Why They Failed

Trump’s supporters attacked the former FBI director’s testimony, but didn’t manage to discredit it.

..... The final line of defense was presented by Trump’s personal lawyer after the hearing ended: Comey was the villain of the story for leaking “privileged” conversations with the president. The premise here seems to be that executive privilege somehow forever silences a terminated federal employee. This is an extremely weird argument:

Trump did not invoke executive privilege to prevent Comey from speaking to Congress, the usual place where executive privilege is asserted.

Trump himself had spoken and tweeted about the conversation, which is usually taken to void executive privilege.

Executive privilege has never before been thought to impose a lifetime obligation of silence upon former members of the executive branch.

The Supreme Court case most directly on point, U.S. v. Nixon, established that executive privilege cannot be used to conceal evidence of crime, which is what Comey’s leak and subsequent sworn testimony, purportedly revealed.

Wait until Gowdy gets an invite to dinner, after that this will all be for purposes of distraction.
    ======================================

After Clinton investigation, Gowdy has a new target: Trump
By MATTHEW DALY - The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) Rep. Trey Gowdy is known as a dogged investigator of Hillary Clinton. Now Democrats wonder whether the South Carolina Republican will pursue President Donald Trump with the same vigor that he used when going after the Democratic presidential candidate.....

In 2014 House Speaker John Boehner selected Gowdy "as a very junior member to head up the Benghazi panel to go after Hillary Clinton. That was not an accident," Connolly said. "Having done his duty well, Paul Ryan has now tapped him to head oversight, where your job obviously is to protect the man in the White House. So vigorous oversight is not on the agenda."......
