Let's see, what else does Donald Trump not want me to investigate? |
The U.S. special counsel investigating possible ties between the Donald Trump campaign and Russia in last year’s election is examining a broad range of transactions involving Trump’s businesses as well as those of his associates, according to a person familiar with the probe.
FBI investigators and others are looking at Russian purchases of apartments in Trump buildings, Trump’s involvement in a controversial SoHo development in New York with Russian associates, the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow and Trump’s sale of a Florida mansion to a Russian oligarch in 2008, the person said.
The investigation also has absorbed a money-laundering probe begun by federal prosecutors in New York into Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
John Dowd, one of Trump’s lawyers, said on Thursday that he was unaware of the inquiry into Trump’s businesses by the two-months-old investigation and considered it beyond the scope of what Special Counsel Robert Mueller should be examining.
“Those transactions are in my view well beyond the mandate of the Special counsel; are unrelated to the election of 2016 or any alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia and most importantly, are well beyond any Statute of Limitation imposed by the United States Code,” he wrote in an email.
The MINUTE I read that New York Times article, where Trump essentially threatened the Special Counselor, I HOPED that Mueller was going to aggressively go after the Trump family finances, and lo and behold he is.
I am sort of torn between hoping that Trump DOES NOT fire Mueller so that he can continue to do his investigations without interruption, and hoping that he DOES find a way to get rid of Mueller so that we can witness the devastating fallout that it will surely trigger.
All I know for certain is that Donald Trump's problems are really only just beginning.
Update: This just broke from the Washington Post:
With the Russia investigation continuing to widen, Trump’s lawyers are working to corral the probe and question the propriety of the special counsel’s work. They are actively compiling a list of Mueller’s alleged potential conflicts of interest, which they say could serve as a way to stymie his work, according to several of Trump’s legal advisers.
A conflict of interest is one of the possible grounds that can be cited by an attorney general to remove a special counsel from office under Justice Department regulations that set rules for the job.
The president is also irritated by the notion that Mueller’s probe could reach into his and his family’s finances, advisers said. Trump has been fuming about the probe in recent weeks as he has been informed about the legal questions that he and his family could face.
His primary frustration centers on why allegations that his campaign coordinated with Russia should spread into scrutinizing many years of Trump dealmaking. He has told aides he was especially disturbed after learning Mueller would be able to access several years of his tax returns.
Yeah, not hard to see that this was coming.
So yes, Trump is looking for a way to fire Robert Mueller.
But wait, there's more.
The article goes on to reveal that Trump is also exploring with his legal team his ability to grant pardons.
Including the possibility of pardoning himself.
And I think that would be what we might call Trump's plan B.
Update 2: Spokesman for Trump's legal team resigns.
Thank God he is doing so. I so want to see Trump and his family members brought down. They are doing nothing for America! Absolutely zero! Fuck them all!
ReplyDeleteCan he fire Mueller? I was under the impression that a special counsel was unfireable.
ReplyDeleteGeorgiaPeach
He cannot fire him directly but he can get him fired if he can make the case that Mueller has conflicts of interest.
DeleteIf you go down and read that New York Times article you can see that he is already trying to make that case.
Probably why he is so pissed at Sessions for recusing himself. He wants to call Sessions and order him to fire Mueller. Now it's a little harder for him to get his way. Donnie is having a tantrum hissy fit.
DeleteGeez, I wish the bastard would just blow an aneurysm already.
AS THE WORM TURNS.............
DeleteHe should as the ghost of Richard "I am not a Crook" Nixon about what a good idea firing Mueller would be :)
DeleteThat's right. Threaten. If you've got nothing to hide, what's the problem? If he fires him, we have our answer.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Nothing to fear when there is nothing to hide. Cough. Russia. Cough.
Delete718 you mean Russia has been in USA for over 100 years now? Is that why the stock market crashed in 1929? So if we were to see WHO owns biz in America, your saying it's Russians? Hiding in plain sight? Dann. Hey. Hey America

Or your Red, white and blue will become for sale to the highest bidder. Don't be lazy.
Think of how much we know, about Trump already paying a $10 million fine for his Vegas casino's money-laundering, about Trump being deep in hock to the only bank that will still lend to him... about his real estate transactions with Russians... about all his losing court cases... the guy is an everyday crook.
ReplyDeleteBut hey, at least he didn't use an unhackable email server for America's most important communications.
Or BENGHAZI!!!!!
DeleteBe gone Trolls. In the name of the holy spirit and Jesus himself. Amen. The devil is about to go down and Trump with him.
DeleteTrump is backed in a corner like the sewerage rat that he is.
ReplyDeleteMy money is on trump to do something stupid, since he is stupid.
However it would be nice to bring this mess to fruition.
I believe he will fire Mueller, since Mueller is not afraid of trump and his hooligans!
Trump is an imbecile!!!!!
Even if Trump attempts to fire Mueller, I believe the FBI is also doing a Trump investigation, which will not stop for the Special Counsel or the firing of the head of the FBI, Comey. The Senate is also doing their own investigation. The wheels are in motion. This is a house of cards and I believe the truth will eventually come out no matter how many people Trump fires.
ReplyDeleteI thought "the house of cards" also about the Trump family. Everything is in motion for their house of cards to collapse.
DeleteI do not see how firing Mueller or Sessions would stop the investigative teams assembled.
I hope the Trump family resigns to protect their financial schemes from being exposed and shady dealings.
The republican party made a big mistake letting Trump refuse to show his tax returns.
BREAKING NEWS - GET YOUR POPCORN....
ReplyDeleteTrump wants to know can he pardon himself, family members and aides
Washington Post
Trump team seeks to control, block Mueller’s Russia investigation
Some of President Trump’s lawyers are exploring ways to limit or undercut special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Russia investigation, building a case against what they allege are his conflicts of interest and discussing the president’s authority to grant pardons, according to people familiar with the effort.
Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people. A second person said Trump’s lawyers have been discussing the president’s pardoning powers among themselves.
Trump’s legal team declined to comment on the issue. But one adviser said the president has simply expressed a curiosity in understanding the reach of his pardoning authority, as well as the limits of Mueller’s investigation.

But, but, but...he can't be upset about Mueller seeing his tax returns because he's going to release them to the public himself right after the nomination!
DeleteOh sorry, I mean after the election.
Oops, I mean the audit...
Never mind.
Is that why he went to France? They said yes?
DeleteHe can pardon everyone but that doesn't include himself. Pence can pardon him when he becomes president.
DeleteEven if he tries to pardon himself and the courts back him, I don't believe that means he cannot be impeached. But I suppose it's a fool's dream to believe that even if Trump went that far, the House would move to impeach him. The Death Party has too much to gain keeping Trump in the Oval Office.
And as they were pointing out last night, a pardon is an admission of guilt and will not stop any state court cases against them.

Report: Robert Mueller likely already has Donald Trump’s tax returns
ReplyDeleteDonald Trump is so far behind the media and the public when it comes to his own scandals, he just recently learned that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has the power to pull his tax returns as part of the Russia investigation. The rest of us have known this since the day Mueller was appointed. But because Trump only gets his news from Fox News and the National Enquirer, he didn’t have a clue about it. Now comes a report that Mueller likely already has Trump’s tax returns.
This evening the Washington Post revealed the following startling revelation: “He has told aides he was especially disturbed after learning Mueller would be able to access several years of his tax returns.” (link). This means that not only did Trump fail to learn as much from the widespread earlier reporting on the matter, none of his aides of attorneys had bothered to tell him as much.
But now comes a report from political insider Scott Dworkin: “Spoke to a lawyer who told me that Mueller probably got Trump’s tax returns the first day on the job.” (link). If this is the case, it’s essentially too late for Trump to fire Mueller, as his tax returns are already in the wind. And as we’ve learned over the past two years, whatever Trump is hiding in his tax returns, he’s been consistently desperate to keep anyone from seeing them.
Donald Trump was willing to risk losing the election by refusing to release his tax returns, which made him look incredibly suspicious. That meant Trump knew that whatever he was hiding in his returns was even worse than the political problem he created for himself by keeping it hidden. That’s long pointed to Trump’s returns containing evidence of serious criminal behavior on his part, or evidence that he’s a financial puppet of the Russian government. And now we know that Mueller has likely had them all along. Too late, Trump.

DeleteSpecial Counsel Robert Mueller is going after Donald Trump for Russian money laundering
ReplyDeleteYesterday the New York Times asked Donald Trump how he would react if Special Counsel Robert Mueller began investigating his finances. Trump responded by threatening to fire Mueller if he did. What Trump didn’t know is that Mueller is already knee deep into probing Trump’s financial history, which the Times revealed immediately after publishing the interview. But now it turns out Mueller is investigating Trump specifically for his role in Russian money laundering.
It was the Wall Street Journal this afternoon that made the reveal, while not quite hitting the sweet spot of what’s really going on. The WSJ reported that Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel office is now taking over an existing federal investigation into alleged Russian money laundering by Paul Manafort (link). But here’s what this really means.
Mueller’s investigation into criminal activities on the part of Trump’s associates only goes so far as those activities relate to Trump. So his decision to take over the Manafort money laundering investigation means that, in his view, Trump was involved in some way shape or form with Manafort’s alleged money laundering. In other words, Mueller is investigating Donald Trump for Russian money laundering.

ReplyDeleteOn Wednesday night’s Hardball, Matthews said that Mueller almost has no choice now but to go after the President.
“Do you get a sense that he knows that he put Mueller in a corner here because he said to Mueller ‘don’t do this or you’re gonna get fired’, in an implicit threat,” Matthews said to the New York Times’ Peter Baker. “It makes Mueller almost have to do it – go after his tax returns even – to prove that he’s not on a leash of this President.”
Baker agreed that sending a warning to Mueller might not have been a good move for the President.

Right now, no one in Washington knows if they can trust anyone in the Trump administration connected with national security matters. These have NEVER before been issues. Both Democratic and Republican administrations in the past have been focused on protecting OUR national security, although there may have been questions about methods used. Regarding "Update #2": Thanks for the link to The Hill. An additional treat is their trending sidebar, "Trump criticizes Japan's First Lady for not speaking English". Good grief. Trump is quoted as saying Prime Minister Abe's wife, Akie Abe "doesn't, like, say hello", as an example of how limited her English is. HOWEVER, that article includes a video clip of her speaking at an international climate change conference in 2014. She delivered a very meaningful speech, both completely correct in grammar and pronunciation and not at all hard to understand.

He ignored Mrs. Abe completely. Her interpreter was sitting just behind her; had Trump tried to engage her in conversation, she would have replied. Mrs. Abe is polite; he is not. Not a single day goes by without some inappropriate Trump statement or action. He is simply a disgusting human being.

"Trump could not directly fire Mueller. He would have to order Rosenstein to do it, the man who appointed the special counsel in the first place. Rosenstein has testified to Congress he will not fire Mueller. Meanwhile, Attorney General Jeff Sessions vowed at a news conference Thursday to stay on, “We are serving right now. "Lawyers for Donald Trump, spurred by the president’s own inquiries, are exploring his power to grant pardons — to aides, family and himself — as a means of undermining special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, The Washington Post reports.
The Post, citing an unnamed source familiar with the queries, said the president himself had asked advisers about the constitutional power, although another source noted that Trump sought only to further his understanding of the privilege.
Trump’s lawyers are also looking into Mueller’s potential conflicts of interests, perhaps as a way of removing him from the Justice Department’s investigation, according to a Post article that cited several of Trump’s legal advisers."

That Trump might be mulling such a move, however, is not terribly surprising when viewed in the context of his career: He has often behaved like the rules that apply to everyone else do not apply to him....
-Washington Post
So Trump gets to pre-pardon himself all the while claiming that 1) he's done nothing wrong and 2) he's president and cannot be charged with doing anything wrong . . . . Hmmm.

Even if he pardon's himself, that doesn't protect him from impeachment.
DeletePardoning all involved, having Mueller fired, the dirt finally being revealed, the extent of his guilt and corruption, that could finally be enough to push the Death Party to cut him loose and impeach him.
Just wait until his approval ratings are in the 20s.
The constituents will put the pressure on those up for re-election in 2018 and 2020; impeach this bastard or it's your last term. If they believe it, they'll do it. If they think no matter what they'll still be re-elected, they won't do squat.

Meanwhile, this Kazakh-born real estate mogul, Tevfik Arif, is doing his best to clean up his past, trying to purge the web of references to his arrest in an underage prostitution bust. He was later acquitted in the matter.

SANDS POINT, N.Y. — Two former associates of Donald Trump helped a family of wealthy Kazakh fugitives make extensive investments in the United States, some aimed at helping family members obtain legal residency here, a McClatchy investigation shows.

_Felix Sater, an ex-con and onetime senior adviser in the Trump Organization, helped the Trump family scout deals in Russia. He led an effort that began in 2012 to assist the stepchildren of Viktor Khrapunov, who that year had been placed on an international detention request list by the global police agency Interpol.
_McClatchy's probe reveals that with the help of Sater and his then-business associate Daniel Ridloff, also formerly affiliated with the Trump Organization, the Khrapunov family invested millions in a short-lived company that sought to place biometrics machines in airports across the country.
_On paper, Donald Trump's business relationship with Sater ended almost a decade ago. But earlier this year, Sater re-entered Trump's orbit when he and Michael D. Cohen, one of Trump's personal lawyers, were involved with a Ukraine-Russia peace proposal that was presented to Michael Flynn, then Trump's national security adviser.
_Several key people in Trump's orbit did business with the Kazakh clan, including the law firm of Trump campaign surrogate Rudy Giuliani and the Bayrock Group, which developed Trump-branded projects in New York, Florida and Arizona and was founded by Tevik Arif, a politically connected former Soviet official from Kazakhstan.
_Sater and Ridloff also worked with the Khrapunovs on nearly $35 million in U.S. real estate purchases during the same time period. They started with several acquisitions in N.Y., including the three condos in the Trump SoHo for which they spent $3.1 million.
_Sater first began working with Trump while the Russian emigre was at Bayrock, which developed projects with Trump in Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in addition to the Trump SoHo in New York. Trump had given Bayrock exclusive rights in 2005 to develop a Trump International Hotel and Tower in Moscow. Court documents show Sater claims to have led a scouting trip in Russia with Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump in 2006.
_Bracewell & Giuliani, the law-firm co-founded by former New York City Mayor and Trump surrogate Rudy Giuliani, was retained to handle legal matters for the joint Bayrock-Khrapunov energy venture, according to documents obtained by Danish broadcaster Zembla. Giuliani left the partnership in 2016 and Bracewell officials did not respond to numerous calls.
_Kazakhstan's president ordered BTA seized in 2009 and soon after accused Ablyazov of absconding with billions. Lawsuits in Los Angeles, New York and across the globe accuse of the Khrapunovs of co-mingling funds with Ablyazov and laundering the money, which is also the basis for the Interpol request by Kazakhstan. Lawyers for both the Khrapunovs and Ablyazovs deny this.
_While Sater has said he was scouting potential Russia projects for the Trump Organization as late as 2015, Trump has played down their relationship.
_"If he were sitting in the room right now, I really wouldn't know what he looked like," Trump said in a Florida deposition in 2013.
Someone needs to sit Trump down (tie him down?) and explain that any sentient American would want to know why he's so cosy with the Russians, why he invited them to sabotage the Democratic campaign. It all looks like the many known, and probably not so known, deals made between various Trumps and Russian individuals and banks over the years because the Russians are well known not to do anything without a payback. We should know if our president (I shudder to use that descriptor for Trump) is being blackmailed or not. Would Trump understand the logic of those concerns? Probably not but then he's very ill-suited and unqualified to sit in the Oval Office.

Since June there have been reports about the legal expertise of lawyers Mueller hired. There is no surprise factor that possible financial transactions would be explored. Hence the Trumps finances be examined. Sometimes I consider Trump believes he can get away with anything.
ReplyDeleteSometimes?
DeleteThat is exactly what Trump believes. He thinks that now that he's president, he can do whatever he wants, everyone must do what he wants and that anything he's done in the past is moot because he's president now and presidents can do anything.
He thinks he's a dictator and not even a petty one.
He still wants his military parade and his ride in the golden carriage.
If they are all so innocent, why does he need to look into pardoning them?
