During 2016 campaign Donald Trump Jr. accepted meeting with Russian lawyer who claimed to have damaging evidence against Hillary Clinton. Update!

Courtesy of the New York Times:

President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton before agreeing to meet with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign, according to three advisers to the White House briefed on the meeting and two others with knowledge of it.

The meeting was also attended by the president’s campaign chairman at the time, Paul J. Manafort, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Mr. Manafort and Mr. Kushner recently disclosed the meeting, though not its content, in confidential government documents described to The New York Times.

The Times reported the existence of the meeting on Saturday. But in subsequent interviews, the advisers and others revealed the motivation behind it.

The meeting — at Trump Tower on June 9, 2016, two weeks after Donald J. Trump clinched the Republican nomination — points to the central question in federal investigations of the Kremlin’s meddling in the presidential election: whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians. The accounts of the meeting represent the first public indication that at least some in the campaign were willing to accept Russian help.

After the first Times story broke the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, who has ties to the Kremlin, responded with this statement:

“Nothing at all was discussed about the presidential campaign,” she said, adding, “I have never acted on behalf of the Russian government and have never discussed any of these matters with any representative of the Russian government.”

Uh huh.

However after this second story came out, Jr. issued the following statement:
So Donnie Jr. went to the Russians because he was looking for evidence of Hillary's financial ties with the Russians?

This meeting took place in June of 2016, which was around the time that Guccifer 2.0 claimed to have hacked the DNC and started posting their information online.

Which makes me wonder just where did Trump Jr. think this woman came by this information?

Is it possible he thought it was from the DNC hack, or did he think perhaps they had penetrated Hillary's private server?

Which is father openly asked them to hack only a month later.

It should be noted that Don Jr. also made this statement to the Times back in March of 2015:

Donald Trump Jr. had denied participating in any campaign-related meetings with Russian nationals when he was interviewed by The Times in March. “Did I meet with people that were Russian? I’m sure, I’m sure I did,” he said. “But none that were set up. None that I can think of at the moment. And certainly none that I was representing the campaign in any way, shape or form.”

Well gee that was a lie.

It should be pointed out that though Donnie Jr. himself did not have any official role in his father's campaign that Paul Manafort, who was also on this wild goose chase, was Trump's campaign manager.

In my mind this is the clearest evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians that we have seen thus far.

Update: Well it appears that our old pal Keith Olbermann discovered something kind of interesting about he date that this meeting took place.
Things that make you go, hmmm.

  1. Anonymous6:23 AM

So, Trump jr has changed his tune because he knows there is evidence that he met with the Russian to get Information on damaging info on Hillary. Is he now trying to also stir the pot by saying it was info that HILLARY and team had financial ties to the Russians?? When cornered, Their immediate response is always to somehow blame democrats, Hillary, Obama, or all 3. What a little scumbag.

    1. He's changed his tune more than once.

First he said the meeting was about adoption.

  2. Anonymous6:30 AM

"Trump's very 1ST tweet about HRC's "missing 33,000 emails" appears to be from 6/9/16, AFTER Manafort, Kushner, Don Jr met the Russian"

"I was hanging out in a freshman dorm with some friends, next door to Donald Jr.'s room. I walked out of the room to find Donald Trump at his son's door, there to pick him up for a baseball game. There were quite a few students standing around watching, trying to catch a glimpse of the famed real estate magnate. Don Jr. opened the door, wearing a Yankee jersey. Without saying a word, his father slapped him across the face, knocking him to the floor in front of all of his classmates. He simply said "put on a suit and meet me outside," and closed the door.
Melker went on to categorize Trump Jr. as a "drunk" during his time at Penn, adding that he "always felt bad for him." Melker further wrote that Trump Jr. was nicknamed "Diaper Don" because he had a habit of passing out drunk and wetting the bed:"

    1. Anonymous7:38 AM

I often wonder at DonJr being the product of Sr and Ivanna. What happened to all of the tall, blond, blue eyed genes?

    2. Anonymous7:49 AM

Somehow none of this surprises me, and I cannot summon up any sympathy for Junior. He's as big a crook as Daddy, and he did have a choice in life. Tiffany seems to be well apart from the Trump mafia. Ivan was handed enough money that the kids could have gone to school anywhere, been anything they chose, and they CHOSE to stick with the monster. Now they will reap the fruits of that choice.

    3. Anonymous8:34 AM

I feel sorry for Jared. He is so meek and bashful. He was drawn in to his blood father's felony crimes but kept out of the prison part. He knows all about frauds and the life of crime but he remains innocent. Poor Jared, used by the Trumps. You can see why Ivanka would be attracted to someone in another crime family. They have so much that bonds them together.

  3. Anonymous6:31 AM

It doesn't matter to me that Uday didn't have an official role, he's trumps son which ties him completely in to the campaign. This wasn't peter Smith who knew Mike Flynn and was reaching out to the Russians to get Hillary's emails. And everyone knew this lawyer had ties to the Russian government. No way she does this without approval or at least the knowledge of Putin.

    1. Anonymous6:57 AM

Uday Trump acts like he operates with an official role. Why else the importance to include Ivanka's hub and official Trump operative? Manafort? Very important to official Trump business and politics.

    2. Anonymous7:09 AM

Trump Jr. was nicknamed "Diaper Don" because he had a habit of passing out drunk and wetting the bed:" Daddy had more control over the media? I don't remember seeing that side of Jr. from those days.
These offsprings are not officials. Only the feminist Ivanka and her man that does everything and knows all, 36 year old Jared Kushner function as if official.
The Trump children's trips around the world with Secret Service

    3. Anonymous7:29 AM

Anon at 7:09 am. Neither Ivanka nor her husband has an "official function" in the US government. They are Trump's handlers.

    4. Anonymous8:04 AM

How could anyone mistake Ivanka for an official? President Trump defends Ivanka's seat-holding at G20

Unofficial: 7 jobs Jared Kushner is now doing for the United States of America. Trump’s son-in-law has been put in charge of pretty much everything.

    5. Anonymous8:52 AM

Why did Ivanka have to hold her father's empty chair at the Summit Meeting by sitting in it when it was vacated by Trump for a bit?

The seats/chairs were already designated to each attendee and when empty for a bit, no one else sat in the other attendee's seats!

Total bullshit, as usual, when it comes to the Trump klan!

    6. Anonymous11:05 AM

Veselnitskaya, the Times reported, is a vocal opponent of the Magnitsky Act and, for her part, told the Times that “the meeting lasted about 30 minutes and focused on the Magnitsky Act and the adoption issue.” Trump Jr. also explained that the meeting was “primarily about an adoption program.” (Keep reading — there’s much more to this explanation.) So it seems more than obvious that the discussion had to do with Veselnitskaya conveying a message to the then-presumptive Republican nominee for president that either the Kremlin wanted the Magnitsky Act fully repealed or sanctions lifted from Russian officials impacted by the law or both.

Not only is this highly suggestive of collusion between Trump’s inner circle and the Kremlin, it could also represent the first real journalistic evidence of a possible quid pro quo arrangement between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Specifically, the lifting of sanctions imposed by the Magnitsky Act could be seen as a partial payment to Russia for helping Trump during the campaign, either politically or financially or both.

But wait. Hang onto your hats. There’s more.

  4. Anonymous6:40 AM

Little donnie jr isn’t very bright, I have the feeling he was bragging and started blabbing this story. Apparently he has already changed his story, so my feeling is there is more to this story. Add it to the list of things to investigate.

Too many meetings, friends, business dealings with russians to be a coincidence.

  5. Anonymous6:41 AM

Now why in the world would donnie jr be concerned about adoptions from russia?

    1. Anonymous6:59 AM

He loves animals and unfortunate kids around the world.

    2. Anonymous7:27 AM

Anon at 6:59 am. Donnie jr. loves dead animals, preferably ones that he or his brother have shot, and I really doubt that he cares at all about "unfortunate kids around the world." No one in the Trump family has a single brain cell devoted to altruistic feeling. If they can't make a personal profit from a cause, it doesn't exist for them.

    3. Anonymous7:51 AM

The only orphans that matter to Junior are the orphans of the majestic wild animals he slaughters for his office walls. The whole family is totally disgusting...even more so than the Palin tribe of misfits.

    4. Anonymous8:20 AM

      Hear, hear!

    5. Anonymous10:33 AM

If you look deeper into it the article I readsaid that the lawyer was representing Putin's anger at sanctions against Russians that had ties to criminal money laundering and in response he stopped all adoptions of Russian children to the United States. It was a semantics thing. Yes, the meeting was about adoptions BECAUSE Putin wanted something done about the sanctions on his pals.

    6. Anonymous10:37 AM

That was what the Russian was looking for in return for the info,a promise to lift the sanctions that led to the ban.It will come out.

    7. Anonymous11:21 AM

The Russians wanted Magnitsky Act fully repealed. Trump big wigs wanted dirt on Clinton. Quid pro quo. They tried but it didn't go off as far as we know so far. They were colluding, the deal failed.
Putin is much more successful dealing directly with President Trump now that they can have a public partnership.
Trump has long been saying better to be pals. 'I say it's better to get along with Russia than not.'

    8. Anonymous1:45 PM

Not sure who wants to adopt those screwed up Russian babies anyway; most at the least malnourished but the majority are FAS because their fucked up Russian moms consider vodka to be some sort of prenatal vitamin.

Not sure why anyone would want to take on these problem kids.

By the way daddy didn't know his campaign manager, son-in-law and his eldest son who are all daddy's trustees and are in daddy's inner campaign and political circle were meeting a Russian agent, even though we were having our secret meeting with the Russian agent directly under daddy's nose where daddy lives in daddy's Trump Tower.

Didn't they expose the Hillary Clinton adoption scam in the pizza place? Or was it human slave sex labor trafficking the pizzas were a front for?

You bet that Sarah Palin will be up to date on it all. Along with her son in law that is saving girls that are used in the slave trafficking business.

I can't wait to see his show where he rescues those poor children and young sexy women.

Trump is not going to say a bad word about the Flynns. He is in total support of what they do.

    Things doesn't make sense.

Trump's son, his golden boy son-in-law and foreign agent strategist campaign manager met with a Russian agent in Trump Tower to collect dirt on Hillary Clinton and Donald Jr said Trump didn't know the undisclosed meeting was in process.

Trump was in his building at the time the undisclosed meeting with the beautiful Russian woman was going on.

Remember when Trump got all excited because his Spidy senses alerted Trump there was a beautiful Irish lady journalist in the vicinity (Oval Office) and he had to call her over to his desk? Trump's facial feature was so excited, her looks and aroma probably gave him a woody under his desk?

The Russian agent is a beautiful woman, didn't Trump's Spidy senses detect beautiful fresh hoohah is in the vicinity in his building and gave him a boner?

The undisclosed meeting was held at Trump Tower. Isn't Trump Tower bugged? Trump not only tapes what's going on in his building, he knows what's going on in his building.

And Donald Jr says Trump knows nothing (like Sgt Schultz in Hogan Heroes).

    Realy? Trump knows nothing?

  13. Anonymous8:21 AM

For a couple days I've been concerned that Trump sold us out when he met with Putin. This morning Trump tweeted about Chelsea Clinton taking Hilary's chair while she left a meeting to give the country away.

Trump may be confirming that he sold us out by projecting his giveaway onto Hilary Clinton.

    1. Anonymous1:15 PM

His excuse that Ivanka was holding the chair is so lame, they are designated seats, who is going to steal it?

If you were a Russian lawyer (Natalia Veselnitskaya) and unofficially worked for the Kremlin, what would you say?
British PR guru (Rob Goldstone) claims he facilitated the controversial meeting between Donald Trump Jr and a Russian lawyer who promised 'dirt on Hillary'
Music publicist Rob Goldstone said he had also attended the meeting at Trump Tower in New York between Donald Trump Jr. and Natalia Veselnitskaya.
UK-born Goldstone had links with the Miss Universe pageant
An online biography described Goldstone as a 'former journalist, publicist and international marketing director, whose previous clients include Michael Jackson, BB King, HMV Record Stores, Richard Branson, The Hard Rock Cafe and Oscar-winning lyricist Tim Rice.'
He studied journalism and went on to work for daily newspapers and radio stations in his early 20s, it adds. The biography claims he accompanied Bob Geldof to Ethiopia in 1985 following an invite by the Band Aid Relief Fund.
Connections: Goldstone manages Russian popstar Emin Agalarov, who is pictured, right, next to his father, tycoon Aras Agalarov and Donald Trump in 2013

The meeting was also attended by Paul Manafort, who was at the time Trump's campaign chairman.

The wife of a former deputy transportation minister, Veselnitskaya is best known for her public attacks on American sanctions aimed at Russian human rights abusers. The Times also said Veselnitskaya's clients include state-owned businesses and the son of a senior government official whose company was under investigation in the United States at the time of the meeting. On Saturday, Veselnitskaya told the Times that 'nothing at all about the presidential campaign' was discussed at the meeting and after 10 minutes either Manafort of Kushner walked out.

...So we know that someone in the White House, three unnamed senior advisers in fact, are trying to throw Junior under the bus to protect themselves now that the story has broken. But there’s no one on the White House senior staff with the motivation to have leaked this story to begin with; they’re just trying to limit the fallout. So where did the New York Times get the lead from to begin with? Think about how this meeting went down: the Kremlin lured Junior to the meeting by promising dirt on Hillary, which it then failed to deliver, because there wasn’t any. This was a setup by the Kremlin to get incriminating dirt on Junior, making him guilty of attempting to conspire to collude, or whatever the legal term for that would be. And considering the way the Kremlin operates, it probably taped the meeting.

That would explain why Junior has confessed immediately, albeit with a flimsy feign of naivety, each time another damning detail of the story has surfaced. Junior probably knows the Kremlin has a recording of the whole thing, so there’s no point in denying it.

Kellyanne Conway on Monday was confronted by her own past false statements about whether any members of the Trump campaign had met with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential campaign.

In an interview with George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America, Conway was shown footage from late last year in which she flatly denied there had been any contact between the Trump campaign and Russian government officials.

The ABC host then noted that this statement was incorrect in light of news that Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner had all met with a Kremlin-connected lawyer last year in the hopes that she would reveal damaging information about Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“Who misled you, and why did Don Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort allow those public denials to stand for so many months?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“What is the most difficult thing to explain is why do they keep meeting with high-ranking Russians — Russians with close ties to Vladimir Putin, Russians doing Vladimir Putin’s bidding — and they continue to lie before the United States Congress, they continue to lie under oath, they continue to lie on disclosure forms about those meetings,” Scarborough said.

“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski pointed out that Trump and his associates have attempted to “undermine” the media for reporting on these lies — but Scarborough said this story was too strongly sourced to wish away.

“They can’t even, in this case — their dupes that (say) ‘#fakenews,’ they can’t even do it,” Scarborough said. “This story — oh, wait — the call came from inside the house. ‘The whole thing is nefarious’: Ex-CIA spy says Trump Jr. fell head first into a classic Russian trap

...During a CNN panel discussion on Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya, former CIA spy Lindsay Moran said that she has seen the Russian government use these kinds of tactics in the past on American citizens, who may unwittingly find themselves compromised by Russian foreign agents.

“Legality aside, this is Russian intelligence tactics at their best,” she said. “Let’s promise Trump Jr. something that he wants, lure him in, bait and switch. It doesn’t matter whether they talked about nefarious activities with him at the meeting — the whole thing is nefarious.”

Moran went on to say that it was particularly disturbing that Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, who now has security clearances as part of his work at the Trump White House, was present at the meeting.

“I have conducted background investigations,” Moran explained. “If you do not disclose meetings with foreign nationals, especially one promising dirt in exchange for something, that’s a big deal. That’s not leaving out an address you had for two months in college. It’s raising a number of eyebrows and can result in a counter-intelligence investigation. It can get you locked up.”

Trump Jr. Met Lawyer Who Repped Accused Russian Money Launderer

Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner held a Trump Tower meeting with the attorney of a businessman who allegedly dodged $230 million in taxes in Russia.

Trump Aides: Russia Flap Proves Don Jr. Is the ‘Fredo’ of the First Family

Former Trump campaign officials said Trump Jr.’s role in the scandal involving a Kremlin-linked lawyer is just the latest in a series of mistakes by the president’s first-born son.

White House aides’ nickname for Donald Trump Jr. is ‘Fredo’

Would Don Corleone send Connie or Fredo to sit in for him?

I have come to the point where I prefer the Corleone family in the White House to the current occupants. At least the Corleones had some personal honor, and Don Vito would never have let daughter Connie hold his seat in a meeting of the heads of the five families, or permit Fredo to seek opposition research from the Russian mob.

Trump White House Coordinating With White Nationalists To Defend Donald Trump Jr.

...Trump riled up his supporters by playing to racism and bigotry throughout the presidential campaign, and those attitudes are shared by people who work in his White House and have been turned into policies like the Muslim ban.

The mainstream press does not talk enough about who this president is, and what he really stands for. The racists are in the White House, and they are coordinating with groups on the outside to try to bury the Russia scandal.

Will Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a shadowy Russian lawyer unlock the mystery? How the tragic story of Sergei Magnitsky led to Donald Trump Jr.'s fateful encounter with a Kremlin-friendly lawyer. BOB CESCA

Russia’s response was typically, well, Russian. The Kremlin blacklisted a menu of American officials, while restricting the adoption of Russian babies by American couples. One of the blacklisted officials, oddly enough, was a prosecutor who’s more than familiar to anyone who’s been following the increasingly breathtaking Trump-Russia scandal: Preet Bharara, the former U.S. attorney from the Southern District of New York. Among myriad other probes, Bharara was said to have been investigating the Trump Organization’s links to Russian money laundering. He was suddenly and personally fired by President Trump after having apparently been assured by Trump himself, during the transition, that he’d be allowed to remain at his post.

Events surrounding Trump Jr.‘s Russia meeting reveal how June 9 changed the direction of the 2016 election

Revelations about a meeting between top Trump campaign officials and a Russian attorney have thrown a new light on events that immediately followed that June 9, 2016 conversation.

The Kremlin-linked attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya dangled damaging information about Hillary Clinton — which she apparently offered in exchange for the lifting of U.S. sanctions against some of her human rights violator clients under the Magnitsky Act.

Donald Trump Jr. denies getting any of the promised opposition research during the meeting, which also included his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, but his father’s ultimately successful campaign seems to have pivoted starting that same day.

The Republican candidate, who was just sewing up the nomination after a primary win in Indiana over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), made his first Twitter reference that same afternoon about Clinton’s missing 33,000 emails — which became a dominant theme of attack against his Democratic rival.

Also that same day, the conservative Judicial Watch released a 750-page deposition from a top Clinton aide who said she was unable to confirm whether emails were deleted from the former Secretary of State’s private server.

Earlier that morning, Reince Priebus — current White House chief of staff and then-chairman of the Republican National Committee — paid his first visit to Trump Tower, where Trump Jr., Kushner and Manafort met at some point with Veselnitskaya.

...In the weeks that followed that June 9, 2016 meeting, the Trump campaign ramped up its digital operation — which was overseen by Kushner and his friend Brad Parscale — who directed voter targeting with the use of a highly sophisticated data bank built by the RNC.

The campaign’s top data officials met in mid-June in San Antonio with RNC officials and representatives from Cambridge Analytica, which turned Facebook into a “propaganda machine” using data harvested from social media users.

  48. Anonymous12:04 PM

Here’s the big problem with the Trump camp’s latest spin about Donald Trump Jr.

The Trump camp’s spin in response to the latest revelations about Donald Trump Jr. is roughly as follows: Yes, Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort did meet with a Kremlin-connected lawyer in the expectation that the lawyer would provide them with information that would damage Hillary Clinton. But this is okay, because they didn’t know the identity of the lawyer beforehand, and at any rate, the promise of damaging info went nowhere, so no “collusion” happened.

The problem with the claim that they didn’t know whom they were meeting with is not simply that it strains credulity in the extreme, though it certainly does. Rather, it’s that this assertion will now be subjected to very intense investigative scrutiny, as Bob Bauer, a top campaign lawyer with Perkins Coie, explained to me in an interview this morning.

Donald Trump Jr., the president's son, has hired New York lawyer Alan Futerfas to represent him in connection with Russia-related investigations, the lawyer and Trump Jr.'s office said on Monday.

    (specializes in criminal defense)

Sounds good that Jr. is downplaying all this.

Alan S. Futerfas began working in the criminal defense field 25 years ago while a law student at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He graduated in 1987, later becoming a partner in a premier criminal defense firm in New York City. In 1994, Alan S. Futerfas opened his own practice. Alan S. Futerfas is admitted to practice before the bar of New York (1988); the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York (1989); the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (1990); the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (1993); and the U.S. Supreme Court (1992). He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York (former member, Judiciary and Criminal Law Committees); New York State and American Bar Associations; Federal Bar Council; New York Criminal Bar Association; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; and the New York Council of Defense Lawyers.

Consider this: the Kremlin lured Donald Trump Jr. to this meeting by telling him it had damaging information on Hillary Clinton. But once Junior was at the meeting, the Kremlin rep didn’t give him anything useful, and instead spent the whole time talking about other topics. The only reason for the Kremlin to have initiated this process was so it would have blackmail material on Trump Junior.

Now consider why Vladimir Putin really went to all the trouble of getting his puppet Donald Trump elected: it was to get Russian sanctions lifted, period. Everything else is a sideshow. Putin personally has billions of dollars riding on it, yet after nearly six months of Trump being in office, those sanctions are still in place. Their G20 meeting confirmed that Trump just can’t get it done. So did Russia leak the damaging story about Donald Trump Jr. as a way of motivating Donald Trump Sr. to try harder on those sanctions?
