During Senate hearing Al Franken calls Donald Trump out for spreading Russian propaganda.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

The Minnesota Democrat questioned FBI counterintelligence chief Bill Priestap and Justice Department national security official Adam Hickey about whether they had reason to doubt the intelligence assessment that Russia attempted to influence the election, and they agreed there was no evidence to question that finding.

“Just last week, the newly minted White House communications chief Anthony Scaramucci appeared on CNN and said, quote, ‘Somebody said to me yesterday — I won’t tell you who — that if the Russians actually hacked this situation and spilled out those e-mails, you would have never seen it,’ Franken said.

As I mentioned yesterday Scaramucci identified that source as Donald Trump, and then of course the New York Times reported that Trump got that propaganda straight from Vladimir Putin.

“The president of the United States is taking the word of Vladimir Putin over that of the U.S. intelligence agencies, which demonstrates a stunning lack of confidence in the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep us safe,” Franken said. “The president of the United States then goes on to repeat that Russian lie to the American press and to Mr. Scaramucci, effectively spreading Russia’s misinformation for them.”

Franken followed that up by  quoting from testimony by James Comey which stated that the Russian hacking was "unusually loud" as if they not only wanted to be identified as the hackers but that they wanted it to be reported in the media that they had successfully penetrated the American election process.

Both Priestap and Hickey agreed with that assessment.

So to be clear not only is Donald Trump spreading Russian propaganda, but it is propaganda which completely contradicts the findings of the FBI and other security agencies who state clearly that Russia was not even attempting to be sneaky.

And the fact that Donald Trump is a tool of the Kremlin is now part of the Senate record.

Dems to GOP: No amendments until you show us your bill

Senate Democrats are taking their ball and going home in the looming health care vote-a-rama — until Republicans finally cough up their actual Obamacare repeal plan.

Fed up with the GOP’s constant vacillations over how to dismantle Obamacare, Democrats say they will hold back on offering any more amendments in the health care floor fight until Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) shows what plan the GOP will ultimately coalesce around.

“Democrats are not going to participate in this one-sided and broken process,” announced Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) Wednesday evening. “Once the majority leader shows his hand, reveals what his bill will actually be, Democrats will use the opportunity to try and amend the bill.”

A transgender member of the U.S. Air Force dared Donald Trump to remove him from the military on Wednesday after the president went on an early-morning tweetstorm saying that transgender individuals will no longer be allowed to serve in the military.

“I would like to see them try to kick me out of my military,” Staff Sgt. Logan Ireland said to the Air Force Times. “You are not going to deny me my right to serve my country when I am fully qualified and able and willing to give my life.”

Ireland added that Trump is doing the “country an injustice” by denying people the chance to fight for the United States.

“For the president to deny an able-bodied, fully qualified person the inherent right to raise their right hand and serve their country, potentially giving their own life for our freedoms, is doing this country an injustice,” he said.

Ireland said that instead of hiding behind his social media accounts, Trump should actually take an opportunity to meet the thousands of transgender Americans currently serving the United States.

“I would personally love for my president to meet me so I can tell him about myself, and the 15,500 honorably serving transgender military members that are fighting right now for their liberties and their country,” he added.

The strong push back comes on the same day Trump tweeted out his offensive position on the issue, calling transgender members of the military a burden.

Sessions’ DOJ argues gay people aren’t protected from discrimination under Title VII

The Justice Department, which is not named as a party in the case, filed an amicus brief with the US Court of Appeals to argue Title VII “does not” ban discrimination based on sexual orientation.

“The sole question here is whether, as a matter of law, Title VII reaches sexual orientation discrimination. It does not, as has been settled for decades,” the Justice Department’s brief says.

“Any efforts to amend Title VII’s scope should be directed to Congress rather than the courts,” the brief—filed under Attorney General Jeff Sessions—reads.

    1. The Supreme Court may take exception to that interpretation.

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-trans-ban-legal_us_5978e48ce4b02a4ebb7249b7?0zp&ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009

"In recent years, courts have heard several cases of transgender people claiming discrimination ― many of whom were fired for transitioning from male to female, or prohibited from using the bathroom at their place of work. Most of the time, courts have ruled in favor of the trans person, but a smattering of rulings have gone the other way as well.

Crucially, the issue hasn’t yet made it to the Supreme Court.

“I think Trump’s ban is not legal,” said Emily Martin, the general counsel and vice president of the National Women’s Law Center. “The federal courts have been pretty consistent that when you discriminate against someone based on gender identity, that’s a form of unlawful sex discrimination.”"

"Preventing an entire group of people from serving in the military violates the Equal Protection Clause laid out in the 14th Amendment, Weiss said, echoing the opinions of a handful of lawyers. The amendment, enacted after the Civil War with the intention of prohibiting discrimination against former slaves, has been understood since the 1970s to also provide protections against gender discrimination."

I think the 14th amendment trumps Title VII.

And, just as in Hitler's Germany, there will be another group of citizens who will be de-legitmized after the LGBT community. Will it be the African American community or the Muslim community or the Jewish community? Little by little, everyone will be thrown under the bus until only those approved of by the white supremacists are left. That's the reason why the sudden transgender discrimination must be fought.

The following is a comment from a former federal prosecutor with extensive experience in public corruption cases.

The Sessions tweets and comments are nuts in so many ways. They are also incredibly stupid and self-defeating. Yes, he’s attacking the rule of law and undermining his own DOJ. That’s bad. He’s also continuing to build a case against himself in real time on Twitter and through public comments–and he doesn’t seem to realize it. The statements represent admissible state of mind/corrupt intent evidence that Mueller can and will use to continue to build an obstruction case. Why is he so upset Sessions recused? Why does he want someone running this investigation who he can control? For the same reason he fired Comey: Because he wants to shut the investigation down. Trump’s lawyers (at least the ones who understand federal criminal law) must be beside themselves. Meanwhile, the special counsel and his staff can just sit back and watch their case-in-chief get better and better. He can’t seem to help himself from acting guilty AF. Keep tweeting, Mr. President. Keep tweeting.

    1. Trump has always driven his lawyers nuts. He can't shut up. He can't tell the truth. That's why they would always see him as a team, so there was a witness to what was said.

I think some of the lawyers that have recused themselves or outright quit representing him are relieved they are now free of him. I don't understand why any lawyer, no matter the political persuasion, would take him as a client. From a lawyer's perspective, he is a nightmare.

I think that both are important. Nothing happens if we don't vote and people don't get motivated if we just sit everything out. Pay attention to what is going on, march, then vote. Our country's future depends on our caring. I hate to think that I've lived over seventy years and that I will die having seen the demise of the United States of America because too many people were too lethargic or lazy or stupid to care. Pay attention, march and vote.

And don't believe for one second that that can't happen. It is as we speak. Just go back to how it all played out in Germany. Trump read that book.
