"Oh my God, it is Obama!" In Alaska?

Courtesy of the Star Tribune:

An Alaska mother is cherishing cellphone photos she snapped of her wide-eyed 6-month-old baby in the arms of former President Barack Obama.

Jolene Jackinsky was at Anchorage International Airport on Monday looking for an airline when she ended up in a waiting area for private flights where a man she thought looked like Obama was sitting.

"As I got closer, I thought: Oh my God, it is Obama," she recalled Friday from Newhalen, a small Alaska village where she's vacationing.

Obama then walked up to her and asked "Who is this pretty girl?"

Oh man! If I would have known that the greatest President of my lifetime was in my state, I would have dropped everything and made a beeline for the airport.

You may not know it from our voting record but a lot of Alaskans admire Barack Obama, and his trip up here in 2015 really endeared to many Alaskans.

So I imagine if this visit had been made public there would have been quite a large crowd of admirers who would have joined me in welcoming this great man to our great state.

    Oh, how neat!

Wish I'd know he was there as I'd have made a beeline to him and said 'Thank you for serving as our wonderful POTUS!

I was lucky enough to meet him and Michelle during one their JBER refueling stops, only briefly as I was catering their lunch.

I'm a little put out that whatever publication this "Star Tribune" is that they referred to him as the "ex-President". All presidents are referred to in perpetuity as either President or Former President but never as "ex-President".

Same with US Marines. Not "ex" but "former."

I think it speaks well of him that although he is kind and gracious with the public, he does not need constant adoration from strangers to feel good about himself. He felt no need to publicize this trip or the stops on it but when the opportunity arose, he was perfectly happy and understanding to cuddle a baby and make the mother happy too.

Of his own free will, too! He approached her and not the opposite. I sure do miss that man....and his grandchildren are going to be LUCK-EEEE and ADORED! :)

  4. OMFG, Obama is practicing his Muslimness again. See- no wedding ring. Wingnuts claim that is a sure sign he is a Muslim.

I've been with the same person for 25 years and we're not married but most of the actual married couples that I do know don't wear rings because they are very active and they just get in the way of working out, plus they are a waste of money and a symbolic gesture that doesn't really mean anything.

Makes me respect him even more because he doesn't buy into that bullshit.

My husband lost his ring a few days after our wedding while fighting fire. He lost everything. I just gave up and after a while I stopped wearing mine. It's been close to thirty years and we are the rings around each other's necks so no need for reminders. Haha.

    5. I can't believe all you astute Obama observers missed all the crap right wingers laid on Obama for not wearing his wedding ring. (hint-it was in the repair shop)

      Stuff like this- http://www.wnd.com/2012/10/obamas-ring-there-is-no-god-but-allah/

was pretty much an everyday occurence. Please tell me some of you noticed this stuff.

I remember all that press surrounding his not wearing a ring but not being a ring person myself I just wrote if off as the usual right-wing-hysterics, which it was.

Besides, it wasn't nearly as big a deal as him being born in Kenya ;-)

We all know he is pretty happily married. Also, too: contrary to 'someone' who shall stay unnamed, he more likely than not did NOT throw his ring into a dead lake.
Hubby and I are married for 40years, and gave up wearing our rings just a few years into our marriage. We have each other, and we trust each other - a ring is not necessary to show we belong together. Besides, I was working in a hospital, where you are not supposed to wear jewelry because of safety as well as hygiene reasons.

There are many reasons he may not be wearing a wedding ring.

Don't ever recall seeing rump wearing one.

Well of course not; he'd have to remember which one to wear.

What a wonderful treat for Alaskans! You have had to put up with a lot of garbage with Sarah Palin living there.

I actually sat smiling for a long happy time.
Thanks for helping to get me back from my drumph funk!

What a breath of fresh air. I mean honestly his smile reaches his eyes. Look at Putin and Trump, our new leaders and see nothing. I mean nothing you'd want to reflect.

I've always loved the way he looks so happy around kids, especially babies. And they always look so happy to be around him.

I SOOOOO miss that calming, soothing nature of his and the smile that lights up the room!

Remember when we had a President who didn't twitter on impulse? Who was God Damn man enough and smart enough to know not everyone was going to like him but kept his dignity and did not turn the Presidency into a reality shit show for the world to see?

Eight years of pressure and hate and maintained his focus on we the people. Never got into pissing matches with the press because it was beneath the dignity of his office. He was focused.

Look what we have now. I was never embarassed by President Obama or Michelle Obama because i knew they were very smart people.

I can not say the same for the current Presdident when every day is a day of "What the hell is this asshole going to whine about today".I want the dignity of America back.
