Okay I think we can all agree, the Girl Scouts are pretty awesome.

Courtesy of CNN Money:

The organization on Tuesday announced it is adding 23 new badges related to science, technology, engineering, math and the outdoors.

Girl Scouts can now earn badges through activities like programming robots, designing model race cars, writing code and going on environmentally conscious camping trips.

The Girl Scouts of the USA, founded in 1912, has created badges with the help of organizations like Code.org, SciStarter, GoldieBlox and the Society of Women Engineers.

The new experiences are meant to address "the lack of exposure many girls have to STEM," Girl Scouts CEO Sylvia Acevedo told CNN Tech in an email.

The new STEM badges come a month after the organization added cybersecurity badges. Those badges will be available to girls in kindergarten through 12th grade over the next two years.

Gee support for young girls to pursue their interests in science and technology without all of that religious baggage that the Boy Scouts are burdened by.

And here we thought they were just a front for a cookie selling operation.

Do Girl Scouts have to promise to love Jeebus like the Boy Scouts do?

No, my daughter is in Girl Scouts and religion hasn't been brought up. Safety, love of self, setting goals, being kind to each other, first aid, and community service are pretty much the hallmarks.
Girl Scouts was originally started to show girls they are capable of anything.

Nope, no religion involved at all.

    3. No.

They're also inclusive and have never had the homophobic ban against the LGBTQ that the Boy Scouts do.

That is why I still buy their outrageously expensive cookies.

  2. Okay, fine, I'll buy some damn cookies the next time scout parents in the department commence their annual shakedown.

That's great! But keep in mind the local troop only receives 55cents per box towards their local programming... I don't have a girl scout anymore, but when I see them setup in the wild, I like to buy three boxes and donate the cost of the fourth directly to the troop :)

      Troop Proceeds 13.5%
      Service Unit Proceeds 0.5%
      Girl Rewards 7%
      Cost of Cookies 25%
      Sales Tax 6.0%
      Girl Scout Programs 44%
      Administration 4.0%

The rest of those profits go to "scholarships" for dues, camps, etc ( no girl is ever denied because they are poor.
Those profits also go to maintain/replace camps and supplies.
Very few positions are paid, all board members at every level are volunteers.

Even tho it was many yrs ago,I had a Catholic leader for my brownie troupe. Our members were mormon, catholic methodist... Mormons being prolific breeders in that area, always ran the boy scouts which met at the local ward/church so I don't imagine very many members were of different faiths other than mormon . The boys did have fun programs with the derby,camping,archery..much better than the boring stuff the girls did,I gotta say. Glad they've livened new it up! :)

Yeah, that Girl Scout camping, canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, skating, sledding, winter camping, dog sledding was all pretty boring ( eye roll).
Like any group, your level of activity is sometimes dependent on the skills of your volunteer leaders....I guess I had fantastic ones.

This is good. Proud of the Girl Scouts. Damage done to the Boy Scouts by trump is awful. I hope the leaders can correct the damage by voice and example.

    1. It forbids discrimination because of GENDER. That absolutely pertains to what Trump is trying to do to transgender people.

    1. Yeah, they'll "value" food and rent over buying overinflated insurance that doesn't cover anything and has huge deductibles.

Beware any Death Party member that keeps saying "ACCESS". Access is code for if you have the money to afford it. Afford being the first word of the ACA.

This is great news from the Girl Scouts.

Still, I must admit that when I read the headline I hoped it meant the national leadership of the Girl Scouts had said that based on his performance at the Boy Scout Jamboree, Drumpf would NEVER speak at any Girl Scout gatherings.

It still could happen, I suppose...

If they are only NOW, in the year 2017, getting around to this, then they have been nothing but a cookie selling front.

Better late than never but it's about fecking time.
