U.S. investigators examining money laundering accusations against President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort hope to push him to cooperate with their probe into possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia, two sources with direct knowledge of the investigation said.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team is examining Manafort's financial and real estate records in New York as well as his involvement in Ukrainian politics, the officials said.
......
"If Mueller's team can threaten criminal charges against Manafort, they could use that as leverage to convince him to cooperate," said one of the sources.
Of course Manafort's spokesman was quick to put an end to that kind of speculation.
Manafort’s spokesman, Jason Maloni, said, “Paul Manafort is not a cooperating witness. Once again there is no truth to the disinformation put forth by anonymous sources and leakers.”
However if the Special Counsel builds a strong enough case against Manafort cooperation may be his only hope of avoiding substantial time in prison.
And Robert Muelller is known for building strong cases for prosecution.
And that may be why Trump's long time lawyer has now jumped ship.

President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, will no longer lead the legal team responding to the ongoing Russian investigations and has taken a reduced role, according to reports.
Ty Cobb will now take the lead in managing the team’s response to the ongoing federal probe into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Kasowitz, who has worked with Trump since the early 2000s, had represented the president in the Trump University fraud case.
The news comes a day after Trump’s legal team spokesman, Mark Corallo, resigned.
Sinking ship, rats fleeing, yep Manafort really needs to consider any deal that he might be able to make here.
I so hope they get him to squeal. Trump could have many turning on him within his ranks. Perfect for America and ridding ourselves of the Trumpster, his family members and administration members.

DeleteThis statement is claiming his extreme loyalty so as not to get wacked. But to keep out of jail, he will probably demand witness protection in due course.
Sounds like a scared character on Sopranos... "I won't talk...they'll kill me!"
Then you're dead, fool! Loyalty pledges, and stupid enough to fall for it. Don't think they won't.
DeleteI kinda like sleeping in my own bed at night with no worries over who's after me.
I predicted there might be some sort of deal in the works when the media kept harping on Junior and Kushner at the meeting but Manafort's name and presence kept being left out or minimized.
ReplyDeleteTy Cobb? Isn't he like 200 years old? And dead?
ReplyDeleteJust like Frederick Douglass

ReplyDeleteOne LOOK at these people who think they know everything. I can't help it!
I can't imagine Manafort has many options. I don't know his age but would think he could spend the rest of his life behind bars. What can Trump do for him now? Pardon him?

Huckster and her boss are going to whine about the past they alter and lie to the the world. Typical.
But she'll look terrific with those hair and makeup tips from Scarasmooch.
DeletePull a Ken Starr/Susan MacDougal and threaten him with contempt if he doesn't testify against Drumpf. If he doesn't, like SM refused to do, he can rot in jail until he turns or decency forces them to let Manafort out of jail.
ReplyDeleteManafort be a man.
