White House suggests that reason states are not complying with requests for voter information is due to fear that it will prove Trump won popular vote. Wait, what?

Courtesy of Think Progress:

White House officials told Fox News on Tuesday that states weren’t cooperating with the commission because they are “concerned they will find fraud” which will “raise doubts about Hillary Clinton winning the popular vote.”

Clinton won the popular vote by about 2.9 million votes.

The idea that partisan politics is motivating the states is belied by the fact that many of the states refusing to cooperate with the commission are run by Republicans.

Okay has Trump's insanity now spread throughout the entire White House?

This is such a bizarre notion that it almost makes me paranoid that the reason behind this entire project was to somehow massage to make it appear that Trump WAS the actual winner of the popular vote.

But that's just crazy, right?

Well crazy or not there is at least on official who has simply had enough.

Courtesy of TPM:

Amid a wave of states refusing requests for personal voter data and a new legal complaint filed against its leader, the Trump administration’s “election integrity” panel saw its first resignation Monday night: Maryland’s Republican deputy secretary of state Luis E. Borunda.

Borunda, who did not immediately respond to TPM’s request for an interview, was appointed to the controversial panel on June 21. Unlike in most U.S. states, however, the Secretary of State’s office in Maryland has nothing to do with registering voters or administering elections. That falls to Maryland’s Attorney General and State Board of Elections, which on Tuesday joined the growing list of states refusing to cooperate with the national voter fraud panel’s demand for a long list of personal voter information, including the Social Security numbers, addresses and party affiliation of millions of citizens.

Well this is at least one Republican who recognized that he needed to jump out of the clown car before it careened off a cliff.

Yeah, right. Like THAT is gonna fly!

I've read the responses from half of the states refusing to release the information and almost EVERY ONE clearly states the illegality of the request. If the WH continues to use that argument, maybe the GOVERNORS will state it again - very publicly, like in a speech in front of their state's Congress that is broadcast simultaneously to their populations

Let's see him try to denounce the repubes in charge of their state! It might just start THEM thinking impeachment.

    (HEY! I can dream, right?)

I admire the states that have outright refused to provide the information. I have less admiration for the states that have agreed to provide publicly available information. There was no "voter fraud" in 2016 to the extent that Trump imagines. If there were any illegalities, they were done by the GOP with the help of the Russians. Was that the reason the GOP objected so much to recounts in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin?

It seems to me that if one party wants a recount, the recount should happen and it should have to be paid for by the state because each state comes up with its own election procedures and rules.

With trump being such a hateful bully it is a good thing not to give that asshole any voting info of citizens. Trump would hack and attack all registered democrats, donors and anyone that voted and donated democrat. You can bet that information will be used illegally to rig the vote again.

It's easy to see that President Breitbart has won the fight with the Boy Wonder and is back in control.

Here's a warning: if you're registered as a Democrat and you deregister because of this little scam, be assured that that's the plan. You may never be able to vote again- that's also the plan.

This DOJ Letter May Be More Alarming Than Trump Commission’s Request For Voter Data
“I really worry that at the end of the day there’s gonna be a lot of noise about this Kobach-Pence commission and people will miss the enforcement efforts of DOJ.”

Former Department of Justice officials and voting advocates are seriously alarmed over a DOJ letter sent to states last week that they say could signal a forthcoming effort to kick people off voter rolls. This comes as national attention focuses on several states blocking a request for voter information from President Donald Trump’s commission to investigate voting fraud, which does occur, but is not a widespread problem.

The DOJ sent the letter to several states last Wednesday, the same day the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity sent a letter controversially requesting personal voter information. The DOJ letter requests that election officials respond by detailing their compliance with a section of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA), which was enacted to help people register to vote, but also specifies when voters may be kicked off the rolls.

Several experts said it’s difficult not to see the DOJ letter in connection with the commission’s letter as part of a multipronged effort to restrict voting rights.

Trump Humiliated As All 50 States Refuse To Give Him All Or Part Of Their Voter Data

Trump’s voter fraud commission has fallen flat on its face as every state in the country has refused to turn over voter data to the White House.

The Washington Post reported, “In a rare display of bipartisanship, officials in nearly every state have said they will partially or fully refuse to comply with President Trump’s voting commission, which has encountered criticism and opposition after issuing a sweeping request for voter data nationwide. Even as some of the resistance centers on Trump and members of his commission, the broader responses from the states indicate a strong and widespread belief that local officials should be managing elections and that the White House’s request for volumes of information went too far.”

There was universal agreement from the states that what Trump asked for was either unconstitutional or a violation of state law. It is not surprising that this White House would not bother to check state law or have their request reviewed to make sure that what they asked for from the states was actually legal.

The vast majority of states were not going to be so reckless as to turn over the sensitive personal information of their voters to the White House whose motives were suspect. Trump tried to go beyond asking for standard voter information, which is why he was correctly shot down.

This president has suffered another humiliation as the checks and balances that limit executive power remain alive and well, and will not let Donald Trump act like a king.

A former top Trump staffer (they worked side by side) says he's sure Trump is mentally ill. Thinks he has MORE THAN ONE mental disorder!

    https://twitter.com/joncoopertweets/status/882601177459953664

...So when Donald Trump’s former staffer states the belief that Trump is “mentally ill” based on personal experiences with him, there’s a whole lot of visible evidence to back this up. Is it malignant narcissism, or senility, or sociopathy, or a combination therein? It’s why Trump needs to be forced into an examination by a mental health professional ASAP.
