A short, anti-Nazi film titled "Don't Be A Sucker" has reemerged after this past weekend's deadly white-supremacist rallies in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Produced by the US War Department in 1943 and released two years after the end of World War II, the film was a warning to Americans to resist fascist rhetoric — and to condemn it even if you're not among those directly under attack.
The film opens with an agitated man handing out pamphlets and yelling to a crowd from a podium about the threat posed to "real Americans" by black people, "foreigners," Catholics, and Freemasons. "I see foreigners with money," the man shouts.
"I see negroes holding jobs that belong to me and you. Now I ask you, if we allow this thing to go on, what's going to become of us real Americans?
"The clip was posted to Twitter on Saturday night by an anthropologist named Michael Oman-Reagan, who said the post-World War II film was made "to teach citizens how to avoid falling for people like Trump." It had been retweeted more than 122,000 times by Monday morning.
And now I am sharing it with you here, and I encourage you to share it far and wide as well.
The fact that it feels as if this film could have been made last year as a warning about what a Trump presidency might do to the country, is all the more reason that as many people as possible should see it now.
You can find the entire film here.
Remember, a well informed public is exactly what those who push this kind of agenda DON'T want in this country.
We'll need to rely on these old black and white archives from WWII since Rex Tillerson has no intention of accepting the millions allocated to him from the Senate to fight propaganda. Granted that was about resisting Russian propaganda, but is there anyone here that doesn't believe there are Russian forces behind some of these Alt-right groups? If they weren't before, you can bet they are now. Putin would never miss such an opportunity.
ReplyDeleteThey have been for over a Century. Look for Russian overtones in America. Might be surprised what you find...then go puke it up!
DeleteRussia has been here in plain sight since the early 1900's.
ReplyDeleteThey played a game they lost at.
England said no. USA said okay.
Now it seems both used each country in subtle ways to gains.
Thru business investments galore.
It was so massive it was almost ridiculous that it even happened.
And fast forward, here we are...
Like G said, it's almost like they knew. Uh yeah that's being really polite about it. Shrug.
FB>"When it comes to choosing sides between Nazis, Klansmen and violent bigots on one side and an American institution our Founding Fathers enshrined in the First Amendment - a free and independent press - I know what side I choose. I am not sure about President Trump.
ReplyDeleteIt defies reason to even write such a thing, but that must be considered a legitimate conclusion to draw from his latest tweet:
"Made additional remarks on Charlottesville and realize once again that the #Fake News Media will never be satisfied...truly bad people!"
"Truly bad people!" The press, not the Nazis. And if there is any doubt for the headline writers and pundits who wondered whether Mr. Trump's belated, scripted aside read off of a teleprompter, was really a heartfelt apology, the emotionless phrase "additional remarks" should put that to rest.
I believe that most Americans will side with the best of American values rather than hate. I believe Mr. Trump's self-obsessed outrages will enrage more than they will inspire. We have seen hate rear its ugly head time and again in this nation's history. We were even founded amidst a spirit of bigotry. But the path towards justice has been strong, despite its twists and turns along the way. And much of that was due to a strong and determined press. We united to defeat Nazis once before. And we will do so again."

Republicans only had to wait enough generations to undermine the education system and wait until those that lived through WWII were dead or too few. (My Mother was a child in Germany during WWII and has only recently started to talk about it.)
ReplyDeleteThey've been pitting minorities against each other for decades. Just look at their policies against women, the poor, blacks, LGBTQ. Trump blamed the Muslims, then the Mexicans, then Blacks.
Republicans have destroyed unions, are now undermining truth and working towards a single political party.
The average citizen doesn't even recognize the slow creep of a Fascist authoritarian dictatorship.
Keep in mind. Trump's choice for the FCC is going to dismantle Net Neutrality. Sinclair is already taking over the airwaves. I guess they don't think radio is that influential but they'll eventually get to that too. We'll eventually have no way of accessing the real news and no way of communicating with each other.
All because too many were too lazy or too stupid to learn from history, get off their asses and resist.
Watching a bit of the film with the guy giving his speech using the 'real Americans' tag and a couple of other dog whistle phrases immediately made me think this guy is a republican for sure.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile Trump does damage in the EPA, and other factors of our government. I think he's setting it up so he and his Billionaire staff, and Putin can benefit greatly from American resources.
ReplyDeletei took 2 classes at the U.W. on the nazi's. i saw soap made from people-and that was far from the worst. trump is leading us down that road again and it's up to us to stop him. use your freedom of speech to call loud and long for impeachment or anything else that will work to get the orange fuhrer out of the White House and make it clear we won't accept it from pence, either. this is our country and we won't become like the Germans. DON'T SHUT UP!
ReplyDeleteWTF is going on with the Kushners?
DeleteThey say they are Orthodox Jews. Some 'splainin' to do with that and supporting Donald Trump.
Where are the rabbis? (Teacher and decider of matters of religious law.) The Kushners can't be trusted, rabbis do speak out on issues.

White House Refuses To Send Trump To Charlottesville Because He Will Make Things Worse
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-not-planning-on-charlottesville-trip-why-the-hell-would-we-do-that-aides-say
...Imagine for a moment, the Obama White House refusing to send the President to Newtown because he was not capable of giving an appropriate speech, or picture the White House saying that Bush couldn’t go to New York after 9/11 because he may only make things worse.
Consoling the country and providing a moral voice in times of tragedy is part of the basic duties of the presidency. When the country is hurting, they look to the President for guidance. What is the nation supposed to do when it looks to the President, and his White House says, ‘this guy can’t handle that.’
Trump is a fraud. He isn’t a real president, and if he is incapable of comforting people after a domestic terrorist attack, he should resign immediately.

Eboni K. Williams, co-host of “The Fox News Specialists,” called Trump’s initially vague condemnation of Saturday’s bloody clashes “cowardly and dangerous.”
ReplyDelete“I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt,” Williams said during her show on the Fox News Channel, a network known for its Trump-friendly coverage. “I can no longer do that, Mr. President. No more benefit ― all doubt.”
“In a moment where you could have been crystal clear where you stand on the issue of inclusion, standing up against white supremacy and domestic terrorism, you very intentionally chose to be ambiguous and equivocate,” she continued.
...“President Trump, I do not know your heart, but what I do know for sure is that you’ve clearly done the math,” Williams said. “You’ve decided that the portion of your base that is absolutely racist is so significant, so valuable that you hesitate ― even in the face of blatant, flagrant hatred ― to risk turning them off and thereby crippling your political stronghold.”
She continued:
You remember when you said your base would stick with you even if you shot someone on Fifth Avenue? I think you are right. I think they will stick with you through anything. ... They will even stick with you while you calm their fears and deep-seated anger around their perceived depreciation of the intrinsic value of whiteness in this country. Let’s be honest: That’s what this is all really about.

Now, it’s no secret that New Yorkers hate Trump. Therefore, one would think that he wouldn’t want to go there. But, alas, go there he did. As was to be expected, protesters awaited him. Their display this time was so over the top that Trump has to be fuming. The #RESISTANCE folks in New York City really outdid themselves this time, by presenting Trump with a large likeness of himself as a rat. Here is an image of what they did:

Law enforcement detains Jared Kushner financier amid accusations of money laundering
ReplyDelete...Just three days ago it was announced that Jared Kushner will be traveling to Israel on a strangely timed and obviously ill suited attempt at brokering Middle East peace (link). If this is a coincidence, it means Kushner now faces the ignominy of traveling to a nation that just snatched up his own bankroller for alleged financial crimes. And there will be others who will ask if perhaps Kushner had truly been planning to travel to Israel to meet with or assist Steinmetz.

Who just died? Cough. No such thing as coincidence there. Bring me back candy.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how much of a positive this will turn out to be, but it certainly can't hurt. This family is disowning a family member over his beliefs as a neo-nazi hate speech and actions in Charlottesville.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.alternet.org/right-wing/father-charlottesville-neo-nazi-marcher-publicly-disowns-his-son
My worry would be how he and his friends will react and what they might do to the guy's family. Personally, if I were a member of the family, I would be in touch with the FBI and any other law enforcement group and I would be loudly complaining about the threats he has made against me.
Thanks for sharing this. I saw a small portion of this on Facebook and shared it. There were NO comments or likes. Nothing. This needs to be made available on Netflix, Amazon, etc.
