Former Marine fighter pilot to show Kentucky Republicans that there is a new breed of Democrat in town

Courtesy of Lexington Herald Leader:

In July, after 20 years in the Marine Corps, Lt. Col. Amy McGrath packed up her things and moved back to Kentucky.

On Tuesday, less than a month after the move, her campaign released a video announcing that she will run for Congress as a Democrat in the Sixth Congressional District, which is represented by Republican Andy Barr of Lexington.

“This is my new mission,” McGrath, 42, said in the announcement video. “To take on a Congress full of career politicians who treat the people of Kentucky like they’re disposable.”

Oh this is certainly going to give Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell night terrors.

My favorite part is that McGrath makes health care a central theme of her campaign.

I think this is a winner for Democrats, and she is the perfect candidate to deliver that message.

    That is a great ad!

I will be donating to her campaign, because I think she would be a great addition to Congress.

It's a bonus that I fucking hate Bitch McConnell and want to see him out. I cannot stand to see his smug face as he tries to take health care away from millions of hard-working Americans. He makes me sick.

This makes me deliriously happy. Here we have a strong female Dem, in a southern state, running for congress. YES! I'm hoping other accomplished women like Amy McGrath, will also take up the challenge and run too. Thanks for sharing.

OT I need to vent about immigration. While at lunch a woman shared what her spouse was told during a visit to Ireland that to reside there one must have employment. Then she added they are not like us, here anyone can come in! Another chimed and three women laughed.

I am frustrated when people repeat Republican talking points or lies of Palin, Trump and their ilk that our borders are completely open, there is no vetting and lies people can come and go as they please. Inexperience, disinterest, lack of curiosity indeed makes for gullible people.

There is no law that says you have to tolerate lies or injustice in any place at any time. Green Cards aren't handed out like candy. If bigots like to claim they are, then you have the right (and I would say the obligation) to set them right. Some people have tried for decades to get a Green Card- and never succeeded.

You're smarter than those women, but I bet they know they can easily intimidate you.

I've decided to stand by my principles and not accept inexcusable behavior. I will try to "diplomatically" make a clear boundary between what WE ALL should consider offensive.

These folks know what their saying is wrong but they are comfortable speaking out because they know they have a free reign to say what they think without repercussions.

Or do they? Be yourself. I've said a couple times that I didn't believe in god when someone was saying they did. It's an appropriate response especially if they are the one who bring it up.

Stand by your principles. You don't have to back track what you say but these ladies do and they should!

Here's How to Make a Political Ad—and How Not To
Amy McGrath knows what she's doing. Paul Ryan does not.

August 4th, 2017, is President Barack Obama’s 56th birthday. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for everything you’ve done for our country and our planet. Thank you for being intelligent, honorable, self-sacrificing, humble, funny, strong, honest, and most of all thank you for being kind. Thank you for being a shining example to every one of us in the face of extreme opposition. You are sorely missed. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/8/4/1686878/-Happy-birthday-Mr-President

  8. She's not the only one.

She's the second female Vet that I've read has moved back to her home and is running against the incumbent Republican.

In fact, there are quite a few women running for public office at all levels. Women new to politics. Fallout from the PussyHat parade. The organized. They attended workshops. They learned what needed to be done and now they're doing it.

Some of the finest Democrats I know are Kentuckians living in Kentucky. I don't know how they do it.
