Hillary Clinton's new book discusses her campaign, her time on the debate stage, and the fact that Donald Trump is a creep.

I don't typically like to post videos from Morning Joe, but this is the best reporting on this book that I could find online.

Here is what WaPo had to add:

Hillary Clinton said her “skin crawled” as Donald Trump loomed behind her at a presidential debate in St. Louis, and added that she wished she could have pressed pause and asked America, “Well, what would you do?” The words, Clinton’s most detailed public comments about what happened during one of the campaign’s more memorable moments, are included in her new book, “What Happened,” which she called an attempt to “pull back the curtain” on her losing bid for the presidency.

In the recording, Clinton noted that she wrote about moments from the campaign that she wanted to remember forever — as well as others she wished she could “go back and do over.”

The moment from the debate appeared to fall into the latter category.

“This is not okay, I thought,” Clinton said, reading from her book. “It was the second presidential debate and Donald Trump was looming behind me. Two days before, the world heard him brag about groping women. Now we were on a small stage and no matter where I walked, he followed me closely, staring at me, making faces.

“It was incredibly uncomfortable. He was literally breathing down my neck. My skin crawled. It was one of those moments where you wish you could hit pause and ask everyone watching, ‘Well, what would you do?’ Do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry on as if he weren’t repeatedly invading your space? Or do you turn, look him in the eye and say loudly and clearly, ‘Back up, you creep. Get away from me. I know you love to intimidate women, but you can’t intimidate me, so back up.’”

Obviously she should have gone with that second instinct.

Not really sure that would have made any real difference though.

I am definitely going to buy this book as I am a political junkie and quite fascinated with what must have been going through Hillary's mind during this batshit crazy campaign season.

I'm going to purchase her book too. She is the one that should be in the White House - not you know who! I cannot even utter his name to myself or anyone else!

Days after the pussy grabbing scandal and now Trump is looming over her during the debate. Hillary should have turned and with icey dignity announced,"Donald I'm not up for grabs, so back off."

I believe that the ensuing roar of approval, shock and awe would have utterly eclipsed anything Trump could've said, or done for the rest of the debate.

P.S. While I really miss Obama's grace and dignity in the Whitehouse, I truly mourn for the woman who should have been my president.

She was in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation her whole campaign.

If truth be told, I still feel the misery I felt the morning after the election whenever I turn on the computer and the first thing I see is the front page of the Washington Post with yet another horror story about Trump and his White House.

I was very angry that none of the moderators said anything to him, i.e., "The gentleman must return to his space. The debate will be suspended until he does this."

It was so obviously disrespectful of her and the entire event. She was strong as steel, never gave any sign of discomfort as he stalked over her space.

    I'll buy her book.

You bring up a very valid point, WA Skeptic. "Moderators."

I remember Gwen Ifill (RIP) Biden/Know Nothing 2008. "I don't want to talk about this, I want to talk about energy" because KN had no clue, and Gwen let her.

If it were me, I would have said, "answer the question I ASKED!"

I remember when she went off on one of her word salad tangents, and Joe had such a shit-eating grin watching her go off!

Game Change said that he walked off the stage and told his handlers, "you owe me."

Great strategy. Give her enough rope, and watch her hang herself. She did.

I prefer her pausing to tell him to back up but her choice did allow us to see she remained calm and that Trump was inappropriate stalker and bully on camera.

The man's creepiness factor has always been off the charts in my view. I wouldn't be surprised if he tortured animals when he was growing up.

  5. I believe HRC didn't say anything because she has been attacked so hatefully these past 30+ years! She was in an untenable situation - whatever she did, she would be criticized, and very harshly at that!

I agree completely with you, WA Skeptic, it was the job of the moderators, Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz, to put Dolt45* in his place! But of course, Hillary has always been expected to do her job and everybody else's. That she typically does so superbly doesn't let the incompetent moderators off the hook!

That being said, I plan to buy this book!

I hope she doesn't apologize for a single solitary thing! To defeat HRC, it took unsecured electronic voting machines, Russian hacking of social media, Roberts defanging the VRA, GOP voter suppression, Kobach trickery with CrossCheck, MSM focus on emails, NY Times continued bashing of HRC, Bernie's long lasting misogynistic spiels against HRC, Dolt's scurrilous attacks against 'Crooked Hillary' (which he keeps digging up from its burial place & which was always projection), right-wing media barrage of idiotic attacks, including Benghazi, millions of dollars of House & Senate investigations, and James Comey's infamous letter. AND SHE STILL WON THE POPULAR VOTE!!! As we used to say back in "da day," she's a bad mamma-jamma!

I agree that the moderators should have told Trump to sit down or stand behind his own little podium. What he did during that debate was despicable, but then, he's a despicable excuse for a human being.

And I also agree, Marguerite, that Hillary Clinton has absolutely nothing to apologize for about her campaign. Had the media done its job better, she would be our president now and, while it is unlikely that she would have a Democratic Congress right now, there would be more Democrats in it. Between the media fascination with all things Trump and their amusement at the ongoing Sanders ruckus, Hillary Clinton's message did not have a chance at getting across to the American people.

I want the truth about Benghazi to come out. I want the world to know that the murders of three good men, Sean Smith, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty, should be laid at the feet of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. And that is the truth.

My should-be President took responsibility for the stupidity of that Ambassador because she is an honorable woman.

Creepy is right!! The guy is like lurch and pouty. Very moody and obviously mental suffering. The real presidency is like a prison the so called presidency held by a con and liar is like prison on steroids. No where to run or hide. And especially djt with his long history of trouble everywhere. He has sealed his deal. Instead of a soul he has a sore.

Hilary won the election. So Donald trump? there are no winners in rigging an election, cheating or lying. You did not win and now you falsely occupy the office and create hate. That sir is not American.

    Really? Obviously?

Because if she had followed choice two of damned if she did, damned if she didn't, we would have heard endlessly about how she flew off the handle and personally attacked trump out of desperation because she had no ideas of her own and was panicking.

We would have been told endlessly about her "temper" and her "temperament" and how if she was going to throw a tantrum every time she was "afraid" of a man or angry at a man, well, maybe it was proof that she was too emotionally unstable to handle the presidency as well as a man and remember that book from the 90s that painted her as a monster so it must be the absolute truth and here was the evidence and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

We would have been told by many of the same people claiming now that she *should* have told him off that she had mis-stepped, that she should have maintained her cool and shown that she could handle being under pressure blah blah blah.

And absolutely no one would have discussed anything about her policy ideas which she repeated over and over again throughout the campaign, during the debates, and on her website. Let alone compared them in detail with trump's empty vacant platitudes and feel good macho blabberings.
