Robert Mueller partnering with New York Attorney General to go after Paul Manafort.

Courtesy of Politico:

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team is working with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on its investigation into Paul Manafort and his financial transactions, according to several people familiar with the matter.

The cooperation is the latest indication that the federal probe into President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman is intensifying. It also could potentially provide Mueller with additional leverage to get Manafort to cooperate in the larger investigation into Trump’s campaign, as Trump does not have pardon power over state crimes.

The two teams have shared evidence and talked frequently in recent weeks about a potential case, these people said. One of the people familiar with progress on the case said both Mueller’s and Schneiderman’s teams have collected evidence on financial crimes, including potential money laundering.

No decision has been made on where or whether to file charges. “Nothing is imminent,” said one of the people familiar with the case.

This Robert Mueller is scary smart, and he obviously recognized what signal Trump was sending with his pardon of Joe Arpaio.

Trump's problem is that these men are playing a sophisticated game of three dimensional chess while he and his merry band of legal misfits are playing Tic Tac Toe.

My takeaway from all of this is that Manafort is still refusing to cooperate and Mueller is putting the screws to him hard until he breaks.

I can guarantee that Trump is sweating like a convict in a Louisiana prison hot box right about now.

OT. The Pittsburgh focus group is interesting. MSNBC is giving it a lot of coverage. Four Trump supporters do not know who Robert Mueller is. They are in for a rude awakening that the investigation is not "fake news".

When Palin was introduced on the McCain ticket it took at least a year for people I knew who loved Palin as she was rolled out to say "she is crazy!" Or "she is evil". Of course some still liked her.

Even disenchanted Trump voters are slow to catch on. It is almost unbelievable they have not paid attention to Robert Mueller and his big team of attorneys.

Remember, those people probably get their news from FoxNews, The National Enquirer, Breitbart, and other right wing publications and TV stations. They may never even hear about Muller because the right wing probably doesn't report on the investigations. (Note, I clearly do not know what they report on, or don't, because I never watch them. but you can be sure they don't read the papers we read where it is well covered.)

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is working with Mueller.

Does Schneider answer to AG Sessions or Trump?

Can AG Sessions press NY AG Schneider for Mueller's info against Trump and then run and snitch to Trump?

    1. Anonymous6:06 PM

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the state AG is part of the US Department of Justice. The US DOJ handles federal crimes and the state AG handles state crimes, so I'm fairly certain that Sessions has no jurisdiction over Schneiderman.

I imagine professional courtesies may sometimes be extended but, in this case, I highly doubt that Schneiderman would bend to pressure from Sessions, especially since this investigation involves Trump, who Schneiderman cannot stand.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous6:06 PM

Sessions works for the Federal Government. Schneiderman works for the State of New York. Two different jurisdictions. Some crimes can violate both state and federal law (especially financial crimes in NY (i.e. Wall Street), and some activity can involve some federal crimes and some state crimes.zz

Also little donnie cannot pardon anyone that commits a crime at the state level.

I suppose Sessions could try. I don't know what leverage he has. It probably wouldn't be ethical, but.... Schneiderman has no obligation to do whatever Sessions wants. Scheneiderman's boss is the People of NY. Sessions office is to supposed to the the People of the U.S., but Trump can fire him. Schneiderman is elected by the people of NY, not appointed by the Governor.

Texas paper nails Trump for lying about “witnessing” devastation of hurricane “first hand”

According to Dallas News, Trump didn’t even visit a hurricane shelter or have any interactions with anyone who lost a home or was otherwise affected by the storm.

So when Trump tweeted out a statement about “witnessing first hand the horror & devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey,” reporters from the area were baffled — and it didn’t take long for Trump to get called out for lying about his visit.

“Our reporting does not match claim that POTUS witnessed any horror of devastation first hand,” tweeted Todd Gillman, Washington bureau chief for Dallas News.

Trump hasn’t addressed the issue or given any explanation for why he would lie about his brief visit to Texas.

Eric Schneiderman has a reputation for being a pit bull and VERY good at what he does. He hates Trump and is making it his mission to bring him down.

He sued Trump University for fraud, which was settled for $25 million despite Trump's claims that he NEVER settles a lawsuit. Schneiderman is also investigating Trump Foundation for using its funds illegally, including the political donation to Florida AG Pam Bondi shortly after she decided to drop her own suit against Trump University.

With Mueller and Schneiderman working together on the investigation, if Trump has done anything that even BENDS the law, they will find it and pursue it.

    This is very good news.

Here's some more background on the history between Trump and Schneiderman.

Trump hasn't given a penny to any charity ever, it seems. When he "gives" it is generally some business thing and not out of his own pocket. He doesn't even fund his charity with his own money. Washington Post has reported a lot on this and one reporter won Pulitzer for his work.

    1. He's making threats about the tax cuts he wants just like he had Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski threatened. (And that investigation was dropped. Duh. Internal investigation of Zinke's wrongdoing? That was never going to happen.)

      https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-warns-congress-dont-disappoint-tax-reform-202317538.html

"President Trump pushed Congress to pass a still-forming tax reform bill in his first speech on the topic in Missouri on Wednesday afternoon, warning Republican lawmakers not to disappoint him this time around.

“I don’t want to be disappointed by Congress, do you understand me?” Trump said, pointing into a crowd that included much of the state’s GOP congressional delegation. “Do you understand?”"

"Trump also directly called out Missouri’s Democratic senator, Claire McCaskill, who is facing a tough 2018 reelection bid in a state that voted solidly for Trump last year. The president said she must back the tax reform plan or face punishment at the ballot box.

“Your senator, Claire McCaskill, she must do this for you, and if she doesn’t do this for you, you have to vote her out of office,” Trump said. “She’s got to make that commitment.”"

"But tax policy experts say the White House’s plan so far would lower taxes for higher earners, according to Bloomberg, and Democrats are already calling it “Robin Hood in reverse.”"

"The Trump administration has pushed for Congress to pass the plan by the end of the year, but has recently softened that expectation. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell complained over the August recess that the president has “excessive expectations” for Congress, particularly around the speed with which they can push through legislation. And Congress must pass key appropriations bills, send relief to the victims of Tropical Storm Harvey and lift the debt ceiling this fall."

And allocate money for the fucking wall. You mustn't forget the fucking WALL, Mitch.

Is this a sign Trump is running scared?

    READ BETWEEN THE LINES

Is it a coincidence or is sneaky Trump trying to get on the good side of the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee?

    Washington Post:
Trump calls senator investigating his son’s Russia contacts about ...ethanol

President Trump called the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee to talk about one of his most important parochial issues — ethanol — shortly before the committee is slated to interview his son in its ongoing Russia probe.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley’s panel will be hosting Trump’s son next month for an interview behind closed doors in its ongoing Russia probe — something the committee has been trying to do since it was revealed that Donald Trump, Jr. accepted a meeting in Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer claiming Kremlin connections during the campaign.
