The average temperature in the United States has risen rapidly and drastically since 1980, and recent decades have been the warmest of the past 1,500 years, according to a sweeping federal climate change report awaiting approval by the Trump administration.
The draft report by scientists from 13 federal agencies, which has not yet been made public, concludes that Americans are feeling the effects of climate change right now. It directly contradicts claims by President Trump and members of his cabinet who say that the human contribution to climate change is uncertain, and that the ability to predict the effects is limited.
“Evidence for a changing climate abounds, from the top of the atmosphere to the depths of the oceans,” a draft of the report states. A copy of it was obtained by The New York Times.
The authors note that thousands of studies, conducted by tens of thousands of scientists, have documented climate changes on land and in the air. “Many lines of evidence demonstrate that human activities, especially emissions of greenhouse (heat-trapping) gases, are primarily responsible for recent observed climate change,” they wrote.
The report was completed this year and is a special science section of the National Climate Assessment, which is congressionally mandated every four years. The National Academy of Sciences has signed off on the draft report, and the authors are awaiting permission from the Trump administration to release it.
The reason we are reading the report courtesy of the New York Times instead of on a government website is because he scientists fear it will never make it that far.
Scientists say they fear that the Trump administration could change or suppress the report.
That's right we now live in a country where important scientific information has to be leaked to the public before the current administration can block it from reaching us.
But, but, but...there's one "scientist", a president, the Bible, and jesus tha unequivocally stste that Climate Change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese.
ReplyDeleteThe Bible exhorts humans to take care of Planet Earth. Ignoring its problems does not help solve them or show any concern for what has been placed in our care.

The New York Times is the problem! That is the necessary change. When will Sarah Palin own the times?
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah, go back to bed!
DeleteWhen you realize no one cares you will be allright.
I read yesterday that the USDA has been told to speak of "extreme weather" and not to mention "climate change." Farmers and ranchers liked the USDA's research into and reports on possible climate effects on their crops and herds. That kind of information is important for future planning. Of course, the GOP and the Trump administration, idiots that they all are, are against it. No need, I guess, to determine which crops or herds will do best in conditions likely to occur in the "extreme weather" future that will likely take place because the ruling party in the US doesn't want to face the likelihood of what the world will look like by 2100. No one told them that the future is their responsibility too.

Well said. As we all know, the huge Orange Cheeto with the huge ego and the huge, insatiable need for constant attention only thinks about himself and what makes him feel and look good (according to his delusional ideas) in that moment. This is why he says everything that comes to his mind in the moment without thinking of the consequences. If it makes him feel good in that moment, that's all he cares about.
DeleteI hope to see him, his two idiot sons and ghoulish son-in-law in an orange jumpsuit and on their way to jail soon. The evidence for their shady deals, money-laundering schemes and corruption (as in buying state attorneys to look the other way in the Trump University scam) has to be out there since there were so many of these instances.
They will change their mind when there is no fresh food to feed their fat faces...

Marthe I want Ivanka in jail too.
DeleteAt least this way when the Trump administration edits it we'll have the draft for comparison.
ReplyDeleteKudos to the scientists for taking the initiative, and the heat, by releasing this early.
Now, let's watch Kelly and Sessions try to make this some sort of national security thing and try to prosecute the leakers. Good luck with that.
