US Intelligence agents say that North Korea has developed ability to put miniaturized nuclear warhead in missile. Update!

Courtesy of WaPo:

North Korea has successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles, crossing a key threshold on the path to becoming a full-fledged nuclear power, U.S. intelligence officials have concluded in a confidential assessment.

The new analysis completed last month by the Defense Intelligence Agency comes on the heels of another intelligence assessment that sharply raises the official estimate for the total number of bombs in the communist country’s atomic arsenal. The U.S. calculated last month that up to 60 nuclear weapons are now controlled by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Some independent experts believe the number of bombs is much smaller.

The findings are likely to deepen concerns about an evolving North Korean military threat that appears to be advancing far more rapidly than many experts had predicted. U.S. officials last month concluded that Pyongyang is also outpacing expectations in its effort to build an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking cities on the American mainland.

Well that certainly escalated quickly.

It should be noted that experts are saying that North Korea still has a few bugs to work out and that they are not yet ready to start firing missiles at Hawaii or anything, but this does demonstrate a huge step in that direction.

One of the talking heads on cable news also pointed out that the work on this capability rapidly sped up in direct response to the Trump presidency, which might have something to do with the threats he has tweeted at North Korea since winning the White House.

Before that happened, experts were confidentially saying that this type of progress was five to seven years away, and now we are learning that the future is already here.

And what is fearless leader tweeting about while the world burns?

Worst presidency in history, bar none.

Update: Well it appears that Trump has finally responded to this news about North Korea.

Courtesy of NBC News:

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States," the president warned, responding to a question during a brief press availability at his Bedminster Golf Club, where he's spent the last several days. "They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before."

Okay WTF does that mean?

"Fire, fury" and "power the likes of which this world has never seen before?"

Is he literally threatening a nuclear attack?

Because that really sounds like a nuclear attack.

Majority of Americans nervous about Trump's ability to handle North Korea

Only a quarter of Americans are confident the situation will be resolved.

But sixty-one per cent of Americans say they are “uneasy” about Mr Trump’s ability to handle the situation, according to a CBS News poll. Only 35 per cent say they are confident in his abilities.

Even Mr Trump’s base appears to be wary: 64 per cent of independents and 22 per cent of Republicans say they don’t fully trust Mr Trump in this area. Only a quarter of Americans are confident the situation will be resolved.

The North Korean regime tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICMBs) capable of reaching the US last month. The US Department of Defence has moved up their projection for when the missiles will be nuclear-capable by two years, to 2018.

As Mueller closes in, Trump prepares his base for the worst

...Because Trump is undermining our democratic norms and processes in so many ways, it is often easy to focus on each of them in isolation, rather than as part of the same larger story. But, taken together, they point to a possible climax in which Trump, cornered by revelations unearthed by Robert S. Mueller III’s probe and by ongoing media scrutiny, seeks to rally his supporters behind the idea that this outcome represents not the imposition of accountability by functioning institutional safeguards, but rather an effort to steal the election from him — and from them.

Exclusive: U.S. envoys told to be coy on re-engaging in Paris climate deal

U.S. diplomats should sidestep questions from foreign governments on what it would take for the Trump administration to re-engage in the global Paris climate agreement, according to a diplomatic cable seen by Reuters.

The cable, sent by U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to embassies on Friday, also said diplomats should make clear the United States wants to help other countries use fossil fuels.

In the wake of President Donald Trump’s announcement in June that the United States would withdraw from the accord, the cable tells diplomats to expect foreign government representatives to ask questions like: “Does the United States have a climate change policy?” and “Is the administration advocating the use of fossil fuels over renewable energy?”

If asked, for example, “What is the process for consideration of re-engagement in the Paris Agreement?,” the answer should be vague: “We are considering a number of factors. I do not have any information to share on the nature or timing of the process,” the cable advises.

Twice a day since the beginning of the Trump administration, a special folder is prepared for the president. The first document is prepared around 9:30 a.m. and the follow-up, around 4:30 p.m. Former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and former Press Secretary Sean Spicer both wanted the privilege of delivering the 20-to-25-page packet to President Trump personally, White House sources say.

These sensitive papers, described to VICE News by three current and former White House officials, don’t contain top-secret intelligence or updates on legislative initiatives. Instead, the folders are filled with screenshots of positive cable news chyrons (those lower-third headlines and crawls), admiring tweets, transcripts of fawning TV interviews, praise-filled news stories, and sometimes just pictures of Trump on TV looking powerful.

One White House official said the only feedback the White House communications shop, which prepares the folder, has ever gotten in all these months is: “It needs to be more fucking positive.” That’s why some in the White House ruefully refer to the packet as “the propaganda document.”

It’s known as the “propaganda document”

The feel-good papers are put together via a tag-team effort by staffers at the Republican National Committee and White House staff. One side effect of Trump’s bumbling presidency on multiple fronts is that there often is not enough positive news to include in the dossier, so “flattering photos of the president” are included to put Trump in a better mindset.

Reacting to reports that North Korea may have developed a miniaturized warhead that could be delivered on an intercontinental missile, Trump — speaking from his vacation destination golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, with arms folded like a young child — declared, “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”

Immediately after, Fox News anchor Jon Scott turned to Democratic strategist Christy Setzer for commentary. Her words were stinging, and probably upset Fox’s conservative viewers — including Trump himself, if the past is any guide.

“Trump is full of a lot of tough talk,” Setzer noted. She added that he is “somebody who likes to talk loudly and carry a small stick.”

Setzer also remarked that in a situation like this, de-escalation should be the goal, and that Trump “doesn’t seem to have a lot of ability to know how to do that exactly.”

Now China is testing missiles off the Korean peninsula

China is holding live-fire drills off the Korean peninsula this week in a show of force analysts say is a warning to North Korea in response to its latest nuclear test.

China’s navy tested dozens of types of missiles on Monday, and plan to practice defensive and offensive maneuvers with surface ships, submarines, air support and coastguard forces, according to state media.

The exercises came shortly after China backed United Nations Security Council sanctions on North Korea, and less than two weeks after Pyongyang conducted its second successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile in a month.

North Korea to US: if you attack us, we’ll respond with nukes

There’s no reason to think the US is actually planning to attack North Korea any time soon.

Trump now sounds more North Korea-y than North Korea

No they aren't attacking US soil right now.

If Kim Boy attacks Guam, that would give Trump Boy a reason to do something, Probably miss North Korea and hit South Korea by accident. Anyway it would start some chit and we can forget Muellar and his grand juries and any investigations. We would be at war and need our leader. Plus need to just forget all the Russia, as Trump says'fake news'.

  30. It's sickening: you can tell that tough talking blowhard in the white house gets such a hard on when he gets to talk and act tough in front of the cameras. I have no faith in that man. He would use any crisis to finish destroying our democracy.

President Trump promised “a major briefing” on the opioid crisis. It was a huge nothingburger.
Trump likes to talk about the opioid epidemic. He should try doing something about it.

  32. Oh, GAWD!

He's going to drop The Bomb on them and then claim it was pre-emptive because they are a threat to the U.S.

    He needs a distraction.

He needs to do something to appear like a strong president.

He is itching to use a nuke.

    WE ARE ALL SCREWED.

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-north-korea-warning-exactly-wrong_us_598a487ae4b0449ed506602b?section=us_politics

"President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to North Korea on Tuesday promising to unleash “fire, fury and, frankly, power, the likes of which this world has never seen before” if the country continues to escalate its threats against the U.S.

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States,” Trump said Tuesday in a short statement to reporters before a meeting on the national opioid crisis. “They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. [North Korean leader Kim Jong Un] has been very threatening beyond a normal state.”

Trump’s remarks at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, only add tension to an already dangerous standoff with North Korea, several experts who spoke to HuffPost warned. Over the years, the U.S. has attempted to prevent the growth of North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and development of missile technology at various times using sanctions, diplomacy and the threat of military action. But nothing has fully obstructed the nation’s advancements.

“That is about the stupidest and most dangerous statement I have ever heard an American president make,” John Mecklin, editor-in-chief of Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, said to HuffPost. The Bulletin created the “Doomsday Clock,” a symbolic representation of humanity’s proximity to apocalyptic destruction."

Well, the stupidest most dangerous remark Trump has made this week, but let's not quibble.

Trump is going to start WWIII and it will be a nuclear war.

And he's got GOD on his side!

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/evangelical-adviser-trump-nuke-north-korea_us_598a62b3e4b0449ed5066531?ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009

"A right-wing pastor who serves on Donald Trump’s evangelical advisory board claims God has given the president “full power” to launch an attack on North Korea.

Robert Jeffress, head of the First Baptist Dallas megachurch, told CBN on Tuesday that a biblical passage in Romans allows rulers to use “whatever means necessary ― including war ― to stop evil.”

      He said:

“In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong Un. I’m heartened to see that our president ― contrary to what we’ve seen with past administrations who have taken, at best, a sheepish stance toward dictators and oppressors ― will not tolerate any threat against the American people.”"

      Fucking Evangelicals.

If we get nuked we should string them all up, castrate, draw and quarter, then pour on salt and let the vultures eat them alive.

"Jeffress, who serves on Trump’s evangelical advisory panel and has been a guest in the White House, has a long history of intolerant rants directed against gays, Muslims, Catholics, Mormons and more."

      No shit.

We have the absolute WRONG boy/male leading our country. He is going to have us in war and I'm sure the people in Guam are frightened to death! My Dad (deceased) spent time on Guam (Army) during WWII.

Naomi Klein on Democracy Now youtube channel noted that people like Donald Trump use shock to numb up the people, then they use war to distract.
I say we are going there unless there are adults in the government. Right now, there aren't. Obama was the last adult.
I guess we get use to cannibalism because we are going to be like Cormack McCarthy's book "The Road".

  37. "North Korea said on Wednesday it is "carefully examining" plans for a missile strike on the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam, just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump told the North that any threat to the United States would be met with "fire and fury"."

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/north-korea-says-seriously-considering-plan-strike-guam-222757124.html

Trump is endangering us all. He's getting in pissing contest with Un and no one can shut Trump up. He won't stop until he goads Un into using the bomb first or if Un won't, Trump will strike first and then claim it was pre-emptive. The old "I felt threatened" defense. After all, it works for the police.

    We are so totally screwed.
