White Supremacists clash with protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia. Update!

Courtesy of HuffPo:

Once again, white supremacists and the aggressive fringe groups that show up to meet them took over an American city that never wanted them in the first place, enveloping the area in violence.

On Saturday, thousands of “alt right” members, white supremacists and other fringe groups took to the streets in Charlottesville for what the supremacists called a “Unite the Right” rally that drew notorious far-right figures including Richard Spencer ― a white nationalist perhaps best known for being punched in the face after President Donald Trump’s inauguration ― alongside thousands of counter-protesters.

The supremacists were met by counter protestors Antifa, a fringe left radical group that often wears black to disguise themselves. Violence was met on both sides, causing a declaration of a “local emergency” by the Charlottesville Police Department.

By the way I don't know who these Antifa douchebags think they are but I will eat my hat if their politics align in anyway with the progressives.

In my opinion they are anarchists out to start trouble, and nothing more.

And clearly trouble is what everybody got last night, and this morning.

This apparently is Donald Trump's America now.

Update: Jesus this thing got even uglier!
Courtesy of the New York Daily News:

Several people have been injured after a car plowed into a crowd of counter-protesters marching against a “pro-white” rally Saturday in Charlottesville, Va., witnesses said.

Video of the terrifying moment shows at least one person being tossed into the air as the silver Dodge Charger mowed into the crowd.

“Yeah, it was intentional,” said witness Dan Miller. “About 40 miles an hour, hit about 15-20 people, crashed into the two cars in front of it, and then backed up and sped away while cops were standing on the side of the road and didn’t do anything.”

Yeah, Make America Great Again, good fucking job with that.

Update 2: Trump should appreciate this reminder.
Have to admit, he has a point.

  4. I have said in the past (and was soundly reviled), and will continue to expound, that this is our own "Rise of the Reich." Stupidity and hatred breed this behaviour, which is fueled by the rhetoric of 45 and his minions. RESIST! 27 members of my mother's family were slaughtered by the same beasts in the 40's. The KKK and other white supremacist groups are unfortunately this country's version of Hitler's brown shirts. It is clear that Trump had no problem with the planned white supremacist rally in Charlottesville. In fact, he probably thought it would be great - another step in "making America great again."

Except that it really represented a giant step back to our sordid past history of slavery, subjugation of an entire people, segregation and wanton racial hatred. So many people sacrificed so much for the US to rise out of the ashes of our racist past and now it appears that it was all for naught. All because of the GOP and its leader, Donald Trump, Putin's water boy.

We see the pattern of global warming, we see the pattern of the Republicans stealing the Democratic process, we see the pattern of Hitler's legacy, and yet we use only rhetoric like sleepers unable to wake to a nightmare in a paralysis.
We need to wake up but the good life of internet, shopping malls, reality tv, and McDonalds have us occupied. While Trump ever so subtly takes us back the the forties when Hitler sang this song and people followed.
    Wake up. We are there.
The only time we will be objective and see this thing for what it all is, is fifty years from now when Florida and Venice are long under water, when Trump is dead, and Ivanka still holds the White House under the continuing tutelage of Putin and Co.
The end. The story of staid, complacent, lethargic sheeple. This story gets told over and over by humanity. That's where and why fascism thrives.

You can bet that there would be no question about what happened if the person driving the car had brown skin and had run over one of the white supremacists.

Trump and all his racist followers would be screaming that it was a Muslim terrorist attack before the perpetrator was even in the police car.

Nowhere was that more clear than in the remarks of former KKK leader David Duke, who said before Saturday’s white supremacist rally that the demonstrations were meant to help advance Trump’s agenda.

“This represents a turning point for the people of this country,” Duke said. “We are determined to take our country back, we’re going to fulfill the promises of Donald Trump, and that’s what we believed in, that’s why we voted for Donald Trump, because he said he’s going to take our country back and that’s what we gotta do.”

Trump’s refusal to call Saturday’s attack terrorism also likely stems from the fact that he is only comfortable condemning violence carried about by minority groups. Denouncing terrorism at the hands of white supremacists wouldn’t fit his narrative that America should fear only Muslims or Mexican immigrants or African Americans.

At one point during last year’s presidential campaign, to underscore how passionate his supporters are, Trump famously said that he “could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

With Saturday’s violence in Charlottesville, it appears the reverse is also true.

A white supremacist could literally drive a car through a crowd of peaceful protesters, and Trump would still, as he did today, refuse to call it what it was – an act of terrorism.

Truly. We know that Trump has been indoctrinated with White Supremacy beliefs. It is rumored that he read Hitler's book and it is on this bedside table.
Even in his skirting around the issue today, he gave little power to peace, and instead let the door open for the violence and anger to permeate. That's a Hitler tactic.
Of coarse racial hatred and fear is here but a moral leader would have said words that calmed the shit down. Instead, Donald Cheeto Hitler left the door open. In his words, sad.

Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi have all condemned the White supremacists.

Even the right sounds more presidential than the Orange Anus.

David French, Marco Rubio. Jeb Bush. Hell, even Ted Cruz, all responded with condemnation of the White Supremacists.

    The words TERRORISTS were used.

And then we have our leader and his wish washy tepid namby pamby spread it all around response. The fucker can't even read the speech someone else obviously wrote for him with any feeling or passion.

Trump's cowardly behavior this weekend with regard to this hateful show by his white supremacist supporters should be enough to bring him down.

I remember when President Kennedy made a speech to the nation about the evil of segregation. It was about our moral obligation to put aside the racial hatred that had almost bled the country dry in the 19th century and that was persisting well into the 20th.

Now we have a sick resurgence of that hatred brought to us by Trump and his GOP (thanks in part to Nixon's "Southern strategy"). Blaming both sides, as Trump did in his cowardly statement, will do nothing to make this nation a better place. It is obvious that Trump and his supporters, including his Congress, want the wounds to fester even more - to the point that the white supremacist version of martial law is imposed across the country. Then we truly will become a "failed state."

We, the American people, cannot let that happen.
