Courtesy of CNBC:
Last week, Hillary Clinton released her new book, "What Happened," a first-person tell-all that documents her surprising loss to Donald J. Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
Now the book is ranked No. 1. on Amazon's Best Sellers list.
It's beating out New England Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady's "The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Sustained Peak Performance," which comes in at No. 2, as well as two novels from 1986: Margaret Atwood's dystopian classic, "The Handmaid's Tale," and Stephen King's horror classic, "It: A Novel."
The book has already sold more than 300,000 copies, and is still going strong.
I am less than halfway through the book but so far I have found it to be the most authentic and unguarded book from Hillary Clinton that I have every read.
At times Hillary is almost plaintive in her attempts to understand what it about her which inspires so much hatred.
She points out that her political ideology is right in step with her husband's, with Joe Biden's, with President Obama's, and even with Bernie Sanders who she voted in synch with 93% of the time.
And yet the hatred directed at her was substantially more intense than that faced by most of her colleagues. (With the possible exception of Obama, and we all know why that was the case.)
Very early in the book Hillary addresses her mistakes, though some reviewers have suggested that she only focuses on others. After that she really seems to be attempting to examine as dispassionately as possible all of the other factors which helped determine the outcome of the election.
Some of that focus is definitely concerning the deeply entrenched sexism which is still a big part of the political DNA in America.
As a man I recognized the accuracy of some of Hillary's observations, but I really feel that women are going to understand it in a more fundamental way than I ever could.
I am not yet sure if I will ultimately find this book cathartic, because right now it is still just ripping off scabs, both hers and mine.
However if you have not yet purchased the book I do recommend it, especially for those people who still deeply dislike Hillary or think she was a "flawed candidate." For THAT audience I think this book may serve as a revelation. (And yes I recognize that most of them would never even consider reading it.)
Speaking of sexism and hatred, the other book mentioned in the CNBC article was Katy Tur's book "Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History," which is currently number one in Amazon's Humor and Entertainment category.
I have not yet purchased that book, but it is on my list.
Yooo Hooooo.... Don't forget me

You don't have to be female to empathize with a woman being mistreated. Not do you have to be a black man to empathize with the racism they have faced. Dumbass.

OT?NEXT50YEAR$!!! WTF"The latest confirmation of this goal arrived on Wednesday, when CNN revealed that a new Trump district court nominee, Jeff Mateer, recently condemned LGBTQ people in dehumanizing terms. In 2015, Mateer called transgender schoolchildren part of “satan’s plan” and described same-sex marriage as “disgusting” “debauchery,” comparing it to “people marrying their pets.” He also endorsed conversion therapy, "Trump has farmed out the job of judicial selection to the Federalist Society, as well as to the Heritage Foundation, a conservative, anti-LGBTQ Washington think tank. Heritage’s most extreme picks, such as Mateer, make headlines. But in truth, virtually all of Trump’s judicial nominees subscribe to an ideology that is hostile to LGBTQ rights."

"This week, Trump’s commission on voter fraud held its first investigative hearing. Already, it’s laying the foundation for voter suppression."
"But rather than working to ensure that all Americans have a fair opportunity to have their voices heard in our elections, Kobach and his sham voter fraud commission were hard at work this week setting a new precedent for voter suppression strategies."
"John Lott, the author of the book More Guns, Less Crime, was empaneled by Trump’s sham commission to weigh in on how to solve America’s non-existent voter fraud problem. Mr. Lott proposed the implementation of criminal background checks for voters in order to “make sure the right people are voting.”"

"The Republican Governors Association has quietly launched an online publication that looks like a media outlet and is branded as such on social media. The Free Telegraph blares headlines about the virtues of GOP governors, while framing Democrats negatively. It asks readers to sign up for breaking news alerts. It launched in the summer bearing no acknowledgement that it was a product of an official party committee whose sole purpose is to get more Republicans elected.
Only after The Associated Press inquired about the site last week was a disclosure added to The Free Telegraph's pages identifying the publication's partisan source."
""It's propaganda for sure, even if they have objective standards and all the reporting is 100 percent accurate," said Republican communications veteran Rick Tyler, whose resume includes Ted Cruz's 2016 presidential campaign."
"Political communications expert Kathleen Hall Jamieson, a University of Pennsylvania professor who has studied political advertising for four decades, said The Free Telegraph commits a form of "identity theft" by "appropriating the integrity of news" because "the form of news carries credibility" that blatantly partisan sites do not."

Delete"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is hinting at a potential major change in the way the Senate advances judicial nominees ― one that would strip Democrats of the ability to block many of President Donald Trump’s lifetime court picks.
In an interview with The New York Times, McConnell said he doesn’t think senators should be able to use “blue slips” to block U.S. Court of Appeals nominees. These are literally blue pieces of paper that senators turn in to the Judiciary Committee to signal that they’re ready for a nominee from their home state to get a hearing. Per long-standing tradition, the committee chairman won’t give a hearing to a judicial nominee until both senators from a nominee’s home state submit blue slips. If even one of those senators refuses to turn in a blue slip, that nominee goes nowhere.
McConnell said Wednesday, for the first time publicly, that he supports keeping the rule in place for U.S. District Court nominees but not for appeals court nominees, the most powerful judges on the federal bench after the Supreme Court."
"Blue slips are one of the few tools afforded to the minority party in the Senate. Both parties have used blue slips to block judicial nominees that they don’t like, but Republicans arguably abused the rule during President Barack Obama’s tenure. On several occasions, GOP senators refused to turn in blue slips for nominees they had recommended to Obama in the first place, just to prevent the Democratic president from filling a court seat.
McConnell was among those who did that.
When Senate Democrats were in the majority under Obama, they honored the blue slip rule even when Republicans used it to block Obama’s nominees. McConnell’s latest comments suggest he may not be inclined to do the same for them, now that Trump is in the White House and Republicans control the Senate. The blue slip rule is not a hard rule so much as a tradition, so if he wanted Republicans to stop honoring it, it would be easy."
I don't see why it is so hard to believe why people hate her. She is very smart, plus she is a woman. Some people have a hard time with someone like that, so lets hate them. Plus, the Repubs have always been so afraid of her that they use the likes of Limbaugh to help fan their flames of hatred.
ReplyDeleteSome women and men are very intimidated by Hillary Clinton and well they should be. She's one smart, experienced, well educated and well spoken woman. So wish she was our current President of the United States!

Maybe Barack Obama was fibbing when he said, "You're likable enough, Hillary". Maybe she just isn't.
ReplyDeleteOh, please. She is funny, smart, articulate, and the most qualified person we will ever have. Many men could not take it. Subservient evangelical women were told she is evil. Must be evil, right? She's rich by the work of her two hands and brain, stayed married, has a career and a daughter who is just as smart and on task as Mom. No drugs, no affairs, no bastard kids, and no constant Bible thumping. They can't stand it. And will never vote for a woman.

ReplyDeleteAll US Presidential elections are now nothing more that American Idol type popularity contests.
It's sure as hell not about competence, education, or accomplishments
Congressional elections are now about raising at least $30,000 every day so you can campaign
Senators need $50,000 every day they are in office to mount a decent campaign.
If COngress passes this ABOMINATION bill that overturns the Johnson amendment , CHURCHES WILL THEN BE TURNED INTO SUPER PACS
THe Johnson amendment will let Churches openly endorse, fund raise, advertise, and shill for the worst of the alt-right with zero oversight BECAUSE THEY WILL STILL BE TAX FREE, and won't fall into the same category as Super pacs!
Between American Idol elections, corrupt donations from foreign governments, gerrymandered districts, Russian meddling, and church based superpacs, our elections are now open to the total CORRUPTION AND THE HIGHEST BIDDER!
Love ya, ajb!
DeleteYou NAILED it!
Misogyny played a big part. So did partisanship. Combine those two and you have a major firestorm.
DeleteBut that doesn't explain it all.
The question isn't why Clinton lost but why Trump won.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/what-happened-we-elected-an-idiot-but-why_us_59bf9b7ae4b06b71800c3b5f?section=us_politics
"Amidst all of her endless re-examination of the election, she overlooks the obvious seminal question: How was it possible that the wealthiest and most successful nation in human history could elect a transparent idiot as president? How could this have happened?
The cause of her loss and Trump’s victory were not triangulation or campaign errors or the flaws of other people in one moment of bad judgement or action. This was an event that had been in the making for the past 40 years. It did not happen by accident or by transgression, nor was it caused by any individual. It was, rather, inevitable. The seeds for this were planted a long time ago, it is only now that they are beginning to bear their bitter fruit."
"And so, after debasing public education for two generations, what did you expect? What did you expect you would produce? Stop teaching Greek and Latin, stop reading the classics, stop teaching history, stop demanding that people actually know something to graduate or even pass and you create a nation that loves Donald Trump. He is, after all, “just like us.”"
For the last 40 years we have underfunded education, vilified teachers, attached the school system. We bought into that fake news propaganda "A Nation at Risk" that Reagan had his spin doctors create and have been dumbing down our children ever since. We took all power and control over curriculum, teaching methods and creativity from teachers, but still made them accountable for the goals and lesson mapping created by textbook companies.
So we have several generations of voters who went through a school system restricted by scripted teaching and mandatory testing.
And we wonder why the public can't tell FAKE NEWS when they read it on Facebook? We wonder why people are looking to Facebook as their news source. Or Twitter.
I'll go farther than Michael Rosenblum.
Does your child have a certificated teacher librarian in their school? Did you?
As school librarians were eliminated due to budget cuts, the rise of fake news was given power. That is what librarians do, they teach you how to vet your sources and teach you how to determine if what you read is reliable or not.
We have a fake news crisis now because school districts chose to eliminate librarians due to budget cuts.
No, that isn't the whole reason. But like the rest of Hillary's book, it is a part of the determining factor.
Misogyny, partisan politics, a poorly educated voter base. Yes, Trump loved his uneducated. They put him in the White House.
It started under Reagan and has continued to undermine this nation every since until we actual *are* at risk.

ReplyDeletedeplorably TRUE! '"I'm happy you used the word deplorable," Trump chuckled. "I was very interested in that word. I didn't tell them -- I promise, I did not tell them to use that word."
Most hearing that were likely thinking, "WTF are you on about, you doughty old man?"
He went on to expand, saying, "It's a very lucky word for me and many millions of people."" or NOT.
He and his Trumplodytes wear "Deplorable" like a badge of honor. They love to be identified as Deplorable, just like they loved that Trump loved they were "uneducated." Yeah, the double wide set considers being called Deplorable and Uneducated as a complement. Something to be so proud of. Just watch them glow, wearing their "I'm one of Trump's Uneducated" t-shirts. Like the rednecks and Nazi's wearing their "Proud to be an American Bigot" shirts and such. I think this "Ignorant Pride" movement is the most dangerous in the U.S. Used to be you were embarrassed to be uneducated, ignorant, stupid or a drop-out. Now it's a badge of honor.
DeleteI don't particularly "like" Hillary but I wasn't planning on inviting her to dinner or being her BFF.
ReplyDeletePublic office should NOT be a popularity contest. It should be about the best person for the job. Hillary was the most qualified person for the job. She had all of the attributes we need in a president. Donald Trump had none of them.
Unfortunately the public has been dumbed down to reality TV voting. Canada and France are lucky in that their young, handsome leaders also appear to be both competent and responsible public servants. They are "nice" guys who are also smart and qualified.
We don't need our primaries to become "Survivor" or the "Great Race." We need an actual competent, stable, responsible adult in all of our government positions, whether they are tall, thin and pretty or not. Unfortunately our primaries have become reality TV. That is a game changer and if they want to win, the Democratic Party needs to acknowledge and embrace the new reality.
Now granted, Trump is hardly young, thin or good looking but he had name recognition and he had experience working an audience from his reality shows. He picked a demographic and he worked them. He had a lot of experience in marketing and knew how to play to the lowest of the low. He gauged the public, what they wanted and then gave it to them. It didn't matter that what he was promising was utter crap or that he didn't know shit. It was a high school pep rally and they wanted Trump as Prom King.
If this election taught us anything it's that the old way of campaigning no longer works. You need to be a media star and play to the audience now. You are marketing yourself. The voters no longer care how experienced or competent you are. They just elected a buffoon that has nothing to recommend him and they STILL support him.
