If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country, you will see change take place fast. Fire or suspend!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 24, 2017
These two tweets are from just this morning as Trump apparently decided to triple down on his infantile attacks directed at football players who exercise their First Amendment rights....NFL attendance and ratings are WAY DOWN. Boring games yes, but many stay away because they love our country. League should back U.S.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 24, 2017
(This of course was briefly interrupted when Trump switched gears and briefly got into a kerfuffle with NBA players yesterday.)
Unfortunately for Trump while all of this might play well with the slack jawed morons who attend his thinly disguised KKK rallies, it does NOT play well in the rest of the country.
Instead Trump has now made national heroes of defiant football and basketball players, as well as some of their moms.
Last night even the great Stevie Wonder waded into the controversy.Guess that makes me a proud bitch!— Teresa Kaepernick (@B4IleaveU) September 23, 2017
Courtesy of CNN:
Legendary musician Stevie Wonder took both knees at a New York music festival, seemingly showing solidarity with NFL players criticized by President Donald Trump hours earlier.
"Tonight, I'm taking a knee for America; but not just one knee, I'm taking both knees," he said on stage Saturday before his performance at the Global Citizens Festival.
"Both knees in prayer for our planet, our future, our leaders of the world and our globe. Amen ..."
During the event, Wonder also spoke about interrupting hate, bigotry and condemning sexism.
One of Trump's supporters, who also happens to own an NFL team, had this to say:
One of Donald’s Trump most prominent NFL supporters offered his regrets on Sunday following the President’s comments on NFL players remarks kneeling during the national anthem.
“I’m pissed off, I’ll be honest with you,” Rex Ryan said on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown. “I supported Donald Trump. When he asked me to introduce him at a rally in Buffalo, I did that. But I am reading these comments and it is appalling to me. And I am sure it is appalling to almost any citizen in our country. It should be. I mean, calling our players S.O.Bs and that kind of stuff, that is not the men that I know. The men I know in the locker room, I am proud to be associated with them in the locker room.
“I apologize for being pissed off but that’s it. Right away I am associated with what Donald Trump stands for because I introduced him. I never signed up for that. I never wanted that.”
And just today NFL players in London also took a knee in protest:
And that included both teams by the way.
Donald Trump just lit a fire under a protest movement that is surely going to spread throughout the country.
I expect soon we will see players in every sport, and athletes of every ethnicity, following these examples and sending Trump a simple message.
FUCK YOU!
Update: Yep, it's spreading.
So does Trump want the entire Pittsburgh Steelers team to be fired now?Mike Tomlin just told me @NFLonCBS #Steelers will NOT be participating in the #NationalAnthem today in CHI. Staying in the locker room.

Bruce Maxwell’s kneel-down just made a huge mess for Donald Trump
ReplyDeleteWho is Bruce Maxwell? That’s probably what Donald Trump is googling right now, after the not-particularly-famous catcher for the Oakland A’s became the first Major League Baseball player to take a knee during the National Anthem on Saturday night. This was, rather clearly, in direct response to Trump’s attacks on NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and NBA star Steph Curry. The particular circumstances behind Maxwell’s kneel-down just made a huge mess for Trump.
For starters, this was the first instance of a professional athlete taking a knee in direct defiance of Trump’s demand that they not take a knee. From there it gets even messier for Trump. Bruce Maxwell is of mixed ethnicity and is part African-American, according to USA Today (link). But his physical appearance is such that numerous people on social media have mistakenly pegged him as a white guy. There’s a good chance Trump will do the same. As Trump only likes to pick fights with sports figures who are black, he may end up staying silent on Maxwell based on his own mistaken assumptions. But it gets more complicated.
Maxwell was born on a U.S. military base, because his father was active duty military. So if Trump wants to keep pushing the rationale that taking a knee is disrespectful to the military, he’s going to have a problem selling it in this instance. Further, Maxwell is from Alabama – the same state in which Trump was speaking when he called Kaepernick a “son of a bitch.” So much for Trump’s seeming belief that everyone from places like Alabama is on his side. There’s one more complicating factor here.
While Bruce Maxwell was taking a knee during the anthem, one of his white teammates made a point of putting his hand on Maxwell’s shoulder in a show of solidarity. So even if Donald Trump figures out that Maxwell is part black and decides to attack him, he’ll have a hard time selling it to white moderates.

500 NFL Players Plan To Protest Trump During The National Anthem

One of the teams in London, the Ravens are owned by Steve Bisciotti, the toe-rag who also owns a temp agency for technical people. Steve was too much of a pussy to hire Colin Kaepernick because he was trembling in his boots that Colin had the balls to stand up for his beliefs.

Colonel Ted Lieu Schools Draft Dodging Trump On NFL Players’ Right to Protest
ReplyDeleteRep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) schooled Republicans who didn't serve on NFL players' rights to protest as they used the flag in their attempts to defend President Trump attacking NFL players who kneel, saying they should be fired.
Trump is clinging to the flag as a reason why he should be allowed to order NFL players not to protest, which tells you everything you need to know about the President’s authoritarian leanings and inability to handle dissent.
Ted Lieu schooled draft-dodging Trump:
'As someone who took deferments to avoid military service, @realDonaldTrump has no moral standing to tell anyone to stand or to #TakeTheKnee.'
...Lieu wondered if Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin was “stupid as a rock” after he clung to the flag while trying to defend Trump attacking players who kneel, asserting, “It’s not about free speech. They can do free speech on their own time.”

‘I’m pissed off, I supported Donald Trump’: Ex-NFL coach Rex Ryan hammers president over anthem attack
ReplyDeleteDuring a Sunday morning panel segment on ESPN, former Buffalo Bills and New York Jets coach Rex Ryan lambasted Donald Trump, saying he is appalled at the president’s comments about players taking a knee during the national anthem.
“Let me tell you, I’m pissed off, I’ll be honest with you,” Ryan said Sunday morning. “I supported Donald Trump. I sat back when he asked me to introduce him at a rally in Buffalo, I did that.”
Addressing Trump’s Friday night comments directed at ex-NFL player Colin Kaepernick, Ryan continued, “But I’m reading these comments, and it’s appalling to me. And I’m sure it’s appalling to almost any citizen in our country. It should be.”
“You know, calling our players SOBs and all that kind of stuff, that’s not the men that I know. The men that I know in the locker room I’m proud of. DeleteNFL to air ‘unity’ ad on ‘Sunday Night Football’ after Trump tries to divide country over anthem protests

ReplyDeleteBruce Maxwell:
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/JaneMLB/status/911811852274778113
Just as Serene Smith Wheelwright walked to the microphone to sing the national anthem, Bruce Maxwell, his back facing the crowd and his face towards the flag out in left field, dropped down to a knee on the Coliseum dirt.
He covered the left side of his chest with the classic A’s green and gold hat held in his right hand. To his right, Mark Canha placed his left hand on Maxwell’s right shoulder.
Maxwell was drafted by the A’s in the second round of the 2012 draft. A rookie catcher, Maxwell is now the newest pioneer in the continuing storyline of athlete protests.
A German-born american citizen and son of a U.S. Army officer who still works as a civilian in the military, Maxwell, who is African-American, became the first MLB player to protest the anthem before the A’s took the field for a 1-0 victory over the Texas Rangers.
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/09/23/as-catcher-bruce-maxwell-makes-statement-by-kneeling-for-anthem-before-game-against-rangers/
Maxwell is changing the narrative. In some ways, he is the perfect person to lead the way in MLB: An African-American from Alabama—he went to high school just 20 minutes away from Huntsville, the site of Trump’s rally, and to college in Birmingham—he is also the patriotic son of an Army veteran. That last fact is a welcome shield against the tired accusations that Kaepernick and others are “disrespecting the troops,” an argument that fails to reckon with the true purpose of kneeling during the anthem.

DeleteTerry Bradshaw: Not Sure Trump Understands ‘Every American Has the Right to Speak Out’ and Protest
ReplyDelete...Fox Sports’ Terry Bradshaw weighed in on the issue. And he had some strong words for the president.
“It’s hard to believe I’m going to say something about the most powerful man in the greatest country of the world,” Bradshaw began. “I was somewhat surprised that the president came out attacking NFL players for them exercising the freedom of speech.”
He continued, “While I don’t condone the protest during our national anthem, this is America. If our country stands for anything, folks, what, it’s freedom. people die for that freedom. I’m not sure if our president understands those rights, that every American has the right to speak out and also to protest.”

Comment seen on Facebook:
ReplyDeleteEven as a child, kneeling wasn't comfortable. The only time I have ever knelt was at communion at church, which I have always considered a particularly sacred time. One is "communing" with God. Looking up kneeling I find that typically one only kneels during sacred moments, like say, when being knighted by the monarch. So I have to ask, why is kneeling during the national anthem so disrespectful when we typically only kneel when are being particularly respectful? Aren't these players actually showing MORE respect by kneeling? By honoring that country by kneeling despite centuries of that country not honoring them?
That commenter is a bit of an idiot. Kneeling in supplication or obeisance is not the same as and athlete "taking a knee" a position of rest from play, signalling to others that he is NOT currently participating in the game - he can no longer be targeted as if he were. High School hockey players take a knee when someone is injured (required to by league rules, punt returners take a knee to signal a fair catch and that they aren't gong to run the ball - don't tackle them. Other sports have similar signals.

‘”The point of my kneeling was not to disrespect our military or our constitution or our country,” Maxwell said. “My hand was over my heart because I love this country and I have family members, including my father, who bled for this country, and who continue to serve. At the end of the day, this is the best country on the planet. I am and forever will be an American citizen and grateful to be here, but my kneeling is what’s getting the attention, and I’m kneeling for the people who don’t have a voice.

The mayor of Washington, D.C. — where the White House is, of course, located — has now spoken out on the Warriors’ behalf, telling them that they have a standing invitation to her city, even if the belligerent occupant of the White House won’t let them in. She even has an idea for the Warriors’ visit to D.C. to be productive in ways other than simply celebrating a win.
In her statement posted to Twitter, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said, in part:
‘Whether you’re here to work, play, practice your First Amendment rights, or lose to our Wizards, we welcome all to visit… While you’re here, Warriors, we are happy to identify ways for you to celebrate equality, diversity, and inclusion — what we call DC values. Owners’ calls for unity are nothing but a shallow attempt to placate a workforce whose ruinous jobs reap hundreds of millions for their organizations. The goal is merely to keep the growing players’ protest from spreading further. So there is only one appropriate response from the players today. The paradise Trump conjures up for his overwhelmingly white fans is ultimately one in which they get everything they want, and the only cost is to people they don't like or, in the case of professional athletes, don't respect as human beings. ReplyDelete‘We’re not going to be dictated to by a racist, fascist white supremacist’: Ex-NFLer Chris Kluwe blisters Trump
ReplyDelete...“Well, I think that the players and the teams are saying that they are not going to be dictated to by a racist, fascist white supremacist who currently occupies the highest place in our government,” Kluwe responded. “When you look at what Donald Trump has said about speaking out against Nazis, I think it’s fantastic that players and owners are now taking a stand in using the platform to speak out against this because this is not what America is.”
“America is not a fascist military state where its devotion to the flag above all,” he continued. “Right now our nation is not holding up its end of the social contract, especially with communities of color. It should be a baseline right now that you can walk down the street and not get shot by a police officer for carrying a toy gun or for selling cigarettes out of the back of a car. It should not be out of the ordinary to expect that. So I’m glad to see these players and owners taking a stand.”
“Communities of color within our nation are not receiving the same level of justice that white communities are,” he added. “Black members of our society are far more likely to be put in prison for what white members are able to skate by on. But it’s also morphed into a discussion that we have a person in charge of our society that does not understand what it means to wield the American empire, and has shown no willingness to work with minorities, with immigrants, with anyone who is not white, and that is, again, against the heart of what America stands for.”

DeleteIn apparent rebuke to Trump, NFL players kneel during national anthem
ReplyDelete...Jaguars owner Shad Khan, who has donated to Trump, told ESPN “it was a privilege” to stand with his players.
“Our team and the National Football League reflects our nation, with diversity coming in many forms — race, faith, our views and our goals. We have a lot of work to do, and we can do it, but the comments by the President make it harder,” his statement said. “That’s why it was important for us, and personally for me, to show the world that even if we may differ at times, we can and should be united in the effort to become better as people and a nation.”

Kaepernick’s Crime, to Trump: He Comes From Obama’s America
ReplyDeleteThe President is ever on the prowl for events and people he can exploit to reassure his America that he’s looking out for them. And boy did he find one.
...We see Trump calling for Kap to be disciplined by his fellow one percenters as if he were telling the other masters how to handle their property when they get out of line. Can you hear the faint echo in the background of Trump’s words—‘We gon’ teach that boy a lesson!’
We see Trump using Kaepernick as a symbol of what’s wrong with this country, a strawman he can pound on to show his people he takes no mess from the blacks. He’s very Boss Hogg that way. To Trump, Kaepernick is a villain who forced politics into the glorious NFL, and he’s someone who dared challenge the authority of the almighty police. But in reality Kaepernick’s transgression was this: in a way that did not take anything away from the games themselves, he silently and briefly protested against black people being killed by their government. The NFL employs some men who viciously beat up their wives or girlfriends but the real enemy of the people is Kaepernick because he wants justice for black people? Kaepernick would have a better chance of getting signed if the issue was him beating up a woman.

NFL Players Blitz Trump With Game Day Protests
ReplyDeletehttp://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/nfl-players-blitz-trump-with-game-day-protests
Apparently President Trump wants the team owners to whip their players into submission as if they actually "own" the men instead of a sports franchise.
ReplyDeleteTrump could do us all a favor and show the NBA,NFL,etc who is boss and take away their non profit status for not firing the s.o.b s.
ReplyDeleteAt least they would pay their fair share and balance the budget with their billions in profits.
You must be drunk again.

Actor Michael Rapaport Takes A Knee, Unloads On ‘Dumb Motherf—ker’ Donald Trump
ReplyDelete...Taking a knee in solidarity with football player Colin Kaepernick and speaking up in support of Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry, actor Michael Rapaport used social media on Saturday to deliver an expletive-filled takedown of President Donald Trump, calling him a “dumb motherfucker” and a “son of a bitch.”
“You took away his invitation ... to meet you? Motherfucker, no one from the NBA is fucking with you,” Rapaport, 47, said in an clip posted to Twitter and Instagram, referring to Trump’s decision to rescind a White House invitation to Curry.
“[Kevin Durant], Lebron [James], Steve Kerr, Greg Popovich, Yao Ming, Larry Bird, nobody is coming to fuck with you, man. No one wants to meet your ass,” Rapaport continued, listing an array of current and former NBA stars and, in Kerr and Popovich, two of the league’s most prominent coaches.

Trump Hides Behind The Flag As Putin’s Shadow Leaves His Presidency In Perpetual Darkness
ReplyDeleteTrump made the reason for his fight with the NFL clear on Sunday. The President is attempting to hide behind the flag to dodge the growing darkness of the Russia scandal.
...The president picked the fight with the protesting NFL players because he thinks that he can make himself look like a patriot who is defending the flag by condemning their freedom of speech. When Trump does something bizarre, and out of the blue it is usually because he is trying to inoculate himself from bad news that is about to drop.
Judging from Trump’s behavior, the bad news is related to Russia. The one consistency with Trump since his rise into national politics is that he always wraps his un-American behavior in pro-American slogans. As Trump was running around the country promising to make America great, there is mounting evidence that his campaign was in communication with Putin and Russia.
While Trump promises to bring jobs back to America, his own company gave the contract to construct a new golf course to a company owned by the Chinese government. These contradictions are not coincidences.
The Russia scandal is looming over Trump’s presidency. Putin’s shadow follows this president wherever he goes. From the moment that he took office, the Russia scandal has paralyzed Trump, and the tighter he tries to wrap the flag around himself, the worse the news about the scandal is going to be.
Trump’s attacks on the NFL are not just a distraction. They are also a preemptive self-defense.

Hillary Clinton was the target of 15% of the stories, with themes ranging from Benghazi and her purported funding of Antifa to her daughter’s use of Twitter. Nine stories (11%) focused on wiretapping and the federal investigation into Paul Manafort; seven of those stories had either a theme of vindication for President Trump’s earlier wiretapping claims and/or a repudiation of the “deep state” (the other two URLs were the original CNN story). Five stories focused on Morgan Freeman and the launch of the Committee to Investigate Russia, and another four stories pushed the narrative of China and Russia joining forces to bypass the dollar in global markets. Other topics that were carry-overs from previous weeks were: Syria (nine stories); anti-immigration or anti-DACA (four); and anti-Protest/Antifa (three). Among trending topics, a thread of pro-secession movements was visible, including support for Kurdistan, Catalonia, and, more subtly, a travel guide for CRIMEaYes that is interesting...

To Donald Trump"...
Like many people I am appalled by orange man's attempts to start a race war or a nuclear war to hide the Russia story. But we all should stick to reality.
ReplyDeleteThe first amendment right is freedom from PUNISHMENT from the government for protest. Orange is violating the spirit of first amendment by threatening them. Any person in the world can protest, and they may receive punishment from employers or bystanders. Under our constitution they should not expect punishment from the government.
Nobody connected with this is protesting the anthem. The only way to protest the anthem is to desire "America the Beautiful" (or such) become the anthem.
The original protest was against police brutality toward a minority. Sunday the protests became about orange man's fascist behavior. Orange man hates the first amendment as shown by his punishment of protest and his punishment of the press.
Nazi is BAD
Even the owners are taking a knee or locking arms with their players. Trump has managed to unite America .... AGAINST him.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think they ought to just stop playing the National Anthem before sporting events and every puddly meeting, show or excuse. In this day and age we shouldn't have to prove we're not "commies" by pledging our allegiance every 5 minutes.
Playing the anthem so much cheapens it. It become meaningless. It should be reserved for special and appropriate occasions. A football game not being one of them.
