Both the family and Wilson released statements that refute Trump’s take on the call. Wilson is a close friend of the Johnson family and had the late Sgt. La David Johnson in a leadership class as a child. She’s known him for more than 15 years. The Master Sergeant with the family riding to the airport to retrieve the body was the one who received the call. He put it on speakerphone so that the all in the car could hear the call.
The soldier’s mother confirmed the Congresswoman’s account of the situation. Rather than attack the family of a fallen soldier, however, Trump has chosen to attack a Democratic Congresswoman, calling her “wacky” in his Thursday tweet.
What's even stranger about this is that yesterday Trump's Chief of Staff, John Kelly, admitted that HE was the one who suggested the phrase "He knew what he signed up for" which essentially confirmed that Trump had said it.
And of course the family also backed up Wilson's version of events.
So WHO is the liar here?

ReplyDelete...Kelly joined the White House press briefing Thursday to defend President Trump’s call to the widow of a fallen U.S. soldier who was close to Wilson. In defending Trump’s comments to the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, which Wilson said were hurtful, Kelly criticized the congresswoman for being present for the call and then speaking out about it.
He also brought up a speech Wilson gave in 2015 for the FBI building dedication, claiming that she bragged about how she “got the money” for the building and calling her an “empty barrel.”
Wilson called Kelly’s description of her speech a “lie,” noting that funding for the building had been secured before she ever took office and that she only helped to pass legislation naming the building after two slain FBI agents. The video from the Sun Sentinel appears to support Wilson’s version of events.
In the speech, Wilson describes how she and congressional leaders worked together to pass legislation to name the FBI building, after the starting the process just four weeks prior to the dedication ceremony at the agency’s request. She said it was a “miracle” that the bill passed both chambers and was signed by President Barack Obama in time.
She said that her effort and that of her colleagues who also pushed for the bill “speaks to the respect that our Congress has for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the men and women who put their lives on the line every single day.”
She then honored FBI agents gathered in the room, as well as the two special agents who died in a gunfight in 1986, Benjamin Grogan and Jerry Dove, for whom the new building was named.
“We are proud of their sacrifice, the sacrifice for our nation. It is only fitting that their names be placed on the same mantel as the FBI,” she said in the speech.
After the Sun Sentinel released the video, Wilson touted on Twitter the “proof” for her account of the FBI building dedication speech.

Today on NPR two guys in an interview basically said, if you aren’t accustomed to making condolence calls, if you don’t have natural empathy, then don’t make the calls. If you ask me, Trump should not only never make any calls, but he should be sure to have someone else write the condolence letters. He can just sign them. He’s good at that.

DeleteI have watched the movie Taking Chance many times, tho I never connected it with Gen. Kelley. It's a gut wrencher. I was waiting for him to continue with the theme of respect given by all to a deceased soldier, at every step of the journey home and thereafter. I expected him to request the nation to cease the discord over a phone call, if not forever, but at least until the family has had time to mourn, as we all should mourn the loss of an American life in combat. I wanted him to be the calibre of the USAF officer who recently addressed the cadets at the USAF Academy, but in an instant he loss my respect when became another Trump lackey. He may be the only person holding the White House in some sort of check, and for his past efforts in that regard I thank him for his service. Today's US Putin people need to stress a softer Putin persona. If Putin is like your father and you are so proud, that is about as high a compliment as an American woman can give to Putin.

Yesterday I defended General Kelly..........today I watched the video footage of Frederica Wilson's speech at the dedication of the new FBI building. As the child of a man who served 30 years in the FBI, I can say that she did an excellent job of honoring both the men who died, as well as the entire bureau. In fact, not only did she not "brag about herself", she credited John Boehner and Marco Rubio for getting the building naming legislation passed in time for the ceremony. In fact, the video shows that General John Kelly is nothing but a flagrant liar himself. I would even say that the general's lie is so egregious, that it is out-and-out "Trumpian".

A former general goes to the White House podium and acts out like he is a Trumpian general. Where is the outrage for this egregious performance? It is anti-American. This is how they destroy America.
The former general, John Kelly, has disgraced the White House and the military. He deflects poorly for all the past generals who are not standing up and speaking out about what is going on.
No former general that is connected to the present White House should be given a pass, they would be as egregious as Kelly if Trump has them use the White House podium to defend Trumpian mistakes and lies.
They all need to speak up and state where they stand on these matters.
They are complicit with silence if they hide from what Trump and Kelly are doing.

When they said it took two days longer to retrieve La David Johnson’s body I said something about the other three being white.
