John Kelly sacrifices his dignity to protect Donald Trump and to attack the Congresswoman who dared criticize him.

Courtesy of Newsweek:

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly ripped into a congresswoman who's been at the center of a controversy over a phone call President Donald Trump made to the family of Sgt. La David Johnson, a Green Beret killed in an ambush in Niger on October 4.

"I was stunned when I came to work yesterday morning and brokenhearted at what I saw a member of Congress doing," Kelly said in an extraordinary White House briefing on Tuesday, referring to Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson who said Trump told the grieving widow that Johnson "he knew what he was getting into," setting off two days of controversy over the president's perceived insensitivity.

Kelly later described Wilson as an "empty barrel" in a "long tradition of empty barrels making the most noise."

By the way Rep. Wilson was a family friend who was IN the car with the family as they traveled to retrieve the body of this young woman's dead husband as it arrived at the airport. It was the family that put the call on speaker phone.

Kelly then went on to say that HE was the one who told Trump to say that the soldier "knew what he signed up for," which he claims was what he was told by the officer, a family friend, who contacted him after his son was killed in the line of duty.

Kelly's contention was that Trump meant well, but perhaps phrased things indelicately.

Of course that flies in the face of every single thing that we know about Donald Trump.

Kelly also went on to lament the loss of things that were once held "sacred" in this country, such as women, life, religion, and Gold Star families.
Of course Kelly seemed to forget that it was his boss who disrespected the Khans, a Gold Star family, during the campaign.

As for women, he just finished attacking a female member of Congress.  (By the way that was even made more egregious by the fact that he essentially confirmed, despite what his boss had said, that she had been telling the truth.)

In his remarks Kelly confirmed that President Obama did not call him after his son died, but said that it was not a bad thing since it is hard for presidents to call everybody especially if there are frequent casualties.

However he failed to mention that he attended a White House hosted Gold Star family breakfast at which he sat at table with Michelle Obama.

It was clear from the outset that Kelly had been sent out to preform clean up duty for Trump.

However to do that Kelly had to reveal that he was essentially comfortably seated in the basket of deplorables who will stick with Donald Trump no matter what he might do, or how he might damage the country.

And since a number of us were hoping that Kelly was somehow able to exert some control over Trump, that is very troubling to learn.

I am now left questioning John Kelly's integrity, and wondering if he is someone that can be counted on to rein in Trump's worst instincts, or if he is pouring gasoline on the embers of anger and frustration that Trump seems always to have smouldering under the surface?

    Mr. President,
You may have truly tried to console Mrs.Johnson, but here's some advice for you if you plan on making future calls to Gold Star families, DON'T!

For some reason you do not have the gift of talking to anybody.

    You are condescending.
    You have a God complex
    You believe you know everything

With that said, there is no one on this planet that can stand talking to you and that includes me.

Our present Congressman is a retired some-kind-of Marine Corps general. His goal as a politician is to end Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid because people should not receive "government handouts." As if he and his family have not benefitted throughout his military career from "government handouts" paid for willingly by the American people, all of us. Besides, he has been absent from the Michigan First Congressional District all of his adult life. Whatever does this man know about the lives of ordinary, hard working people.

In general, I'm sick of having to be so reverential around military brass, especially given their tendency to veer to the far right in their political lives.

I was willing to give him somewhat of a pass since it was his job to come out and defend his Commander in Chief BUT when he attacked the congress woman and referred to this country's lack of sanctity for women, right to life and religion I felt sick to my stomach. He's just another member of the far religious right out to defend Trump for the good of his party's regressive platform. Once again the Trump administration are proven to be hypocrites. 5:33, women were not "sacred" even in the fantasy 1950s conservatives love to live in. Women were routinely assaulted and raped, and if a minor girl got pregnant, she was sent away to a pregnancy home and the baby ripped from her arms and given to a 'worthy' couple (if she was white). Women were denied jobs outright, or paid a pittance compared to their equally-educated male counterparts.

FB>"Stop referring to Mattis and Kelly as generals.
    These men are now CIVILIANS.
This is an important distinction for a number of reasons.
Mattis and Kelly WERE general officers. Good ones. But Generals are very, very powerful. Almost unbelievably so. Literally tens of thousands may live and die at their command. Millions, if it goes nuclear.
Power in the military is not like the civilian world, or even the political one. By law and custom subordinate personnel hop to do their bidding. Very very few people talk back to a general officer and get away with it. Generals are deferred to by nearly everyone. They always have people to take care of the details. They are protected. Somebody drives them around.
Generals become accustomed to a particular type of power.
    They are authoritarians by design.
Now, good general officers listen, to their officers, to their troops, to civilian experts and advisers, to government, but they don't HAVE to. Because in the end, the war rests on their decisions.
Generals, good ones, command enormous loyalty and power. And they are trained and accustomed to USING it without hesitation. One of the reasons for this is because, in America, they always have a civilian backstop. Oversight. And they must answer for their decisions.
The power of generals, and the danger of that power, is a lesson taught by history over and over stretching back to Rome itself. And it's one of the reasons our country was designed deliberately the way it was.
In the US military that power is constrained by law, custom, and discipline. Under control of the civilian leadership by design.
Calling them "General" without caveat gives the impression their power is STILL bound by those restrictions.
    But it's not.
As civilians, they are NO LONGER constrained by military law and subordination to civilian authority.
    They ARE the civilian authority.
They are the civilian authority in a GENERAL OFFICERS BODY. And both are accustomed to military power, and still command the loyalty from the military and the deference of civilians
This is why waiving the 7-year waiting period as specified by the National Security Act for Mattis was so dangerous. That waiting period was signed into law for a damned GOOD reason.
And we bypassed that for Mattis.
What we now have are de facto generals with direct access to the president and thus ultimate power, WITHOUT the constraints that normally limit the power of general officers.
The ONLY control over these men is ...
    ...Donald Trump.
Donald Trump. A man who really doesn't understand any of this.
Which leads inevitably to this: We must hope men who have no limits on THEIR power, limit the power of a man who can't control HIMSELF, WITHOUT those men seizing the ultimate power for themselves.
These men are no longer generals, they are far more than that now.
And it's damned important that we daily remind both ourselves and THEM of that.
We are now in a very precarious position.
As Rome itself once was, to its destruction.
    Jim Wright

Quite sure Kelly is a pacifier for the dotard. But Kelly could have said the honorable thing by stating that the next of kin was called of his son by President Obama. His wife. But Kelly did not say that, instead played the con game. Bad

There is absolutely nothing that Trump knows "how to phrase well." Every chance he gets, he messes up. If Kelly were smart and if he were a truly patriotic American, he would run as fast and as far as he can from the White House. It sounds as if he is a "tone deaf" as Trump if he was so stupid as to ever put the words, he knew "what he signed up for," in Trump's head. Surely Kelly knows by now that Trump lacks the empathy gene completely and that he only cares about himself, the rest of the world be damned.

And did Gen. Kelly find comfort in those words, "He knew what he signed up for"?

We've been desensitized to female inferiority because that's the way the world is. Men control it and have always controlled it. Women who doesn't fit the stereotypical role society wrote for them are labeled bad women, bad mothers, bad ____. It's disgusting.

Years ago when Levi Johnston verbally attacked all women by insinuating females who don't breast feed are "big babies" no one commented. (despite the fact that NO man would choose to breastfeed due to pain levels). When Levi let sociopathic liberals slander and abuse an ex by slutshaming her, no one spoke up. And while the result of that just might be that his kids hate him for his words and lies (unless he denounces his actions and starts praying for forgiveness), it won't matter. Because it's small.

But there are bigger things that happen, that affect everyone.

Yeah, Levi is gonna bring down the USA with some bullshit breastfeeding comment you claim he said...
Go take your meds, babe. When Levi gets elected to some high office, it might matter.
Oh, and there IS no defense of Tripp's mother. And Levi damn well knew it. But there WAS someone who screeched about her little snowflake being called out for gettin' caught not practicing what she and her munster preached/screeched.
How DID Beefy keep gettin preggers with no husband in sight for all those years? Did her skygod keep makin those Mary-style booty calls? Hmmmm. Mystery.

There's no evidence Levi Johnston ever said such a thing, just like there's no evidence that his children don't love him. OTOH, there's plenty of evidence that the Town Bicycle is a terrible mother who pimps out her own crotch-fruit for the dollah billz.

The IRONY is that Kelly criticized Rep. Wilson for listening in on the phone call between Sgt. Johnson's widow and Trump, while HE (Kelly) was also listening in on the phone conversation made from the White House!!!!

Don't expect any Congressional investigations though. This is a GOP administration - through and through. Rachel Maddow reported that one of the reasons this mishap occurred may have been that Trump's White House added Chad, which has been a US ally fighting the bad guys in Niger, to the "banned" list. Apparently because of that, Chad pulled its soldiers out of Niger, leaving the US without their help. So part of the responsibility for the killings in Niger could well have been yet another ignorant move by the 45th holder of the presidency. Where are all the investigative reporters out there? Why haven't they been all over this story?

" he can’t just go on TV and lie on me. I was not even in Congress in 2009 when the money for the building was secured, so that’s a lie. However, I named the building at the behest of Director Comey with the help of Speaker Boehner, working across party lines, so he didn’t tell the truth, and he needs to stop telling lies on me.”"

Kelly was to oversee Trump, not just jump when Trump says jump. Kelly lied by his own doing but he was specific about the FBI building, in Florida. I doubt if he is that senile to think Los Angeles and Maxine.

Why did he go to the podium unprepared and to spew? Before he had staff help him research what he would say. He is a slob as well as a callous slandering fool.
