Donald Trump's lawyers are pushing for a one on one meeting between their client and Robert Mueller. Seriously?

Courtesy of Politico:

Donald Trump’s lawyers are open to having the president sit down for an interview with Robert Mueller, according to a senior White House official, as part of a wider posture of cooperation with the special counsel’s Russia probe.

If Mueller doesn’t request an interview by Thanksgiving, Trump’s lawyers may even force the issue by volunteering Trump’s time, the official said. The White House believes such an interview could help Mueller wrap up the probe faster and dispel the cloud of suspicion over Trump.

A meeting with Mueller could bring serious risks for Trump—exposing him to questions about everything from potential obstruction of justice over his firing of FBI Director James Comey to what Trump might know about Kremlin support for his presidential campaign.

But the official suggested that the White House has no reason to stonewall Mueller.

“Whatever happens with regard to whether or not, or how, the special counsel might want to interview the president, there’s no reason to expect that would be combative,” the senior White House official explained.

Trump told reporters this spring that he was “100 percent” willing to testify under oath about alleged Russian ties to his campaign. But even if he has nothing to hide, Trump’s unpredictable nature and willingness to bend the facts poses headaches for his legal team as it strategizes for a possible sit-down with Mueller. One angry or untrue statement could have devastating political and legal consequences for the president.

Okay so let me look into my crystal ball and predict what will happen after this sit down takes place.

One, Robert Mueller catches Donald Trump in multiple lies and the investigation immediately moves to the prosecution phase.

Or two, Robert Mueller catches Donald Trump in multiple lies and Trump freaks out and tries to get Mueller fired, at which time the investigation moves to the prosecution stage.

So either way, PLEASE let this meeting take place.

P.S. Do you think it's possible that Trump's legal team is turning on him, and WANTS him to perjure himself?

At this point that would not surprise me at all.

The most probable explanation to me is that his legal team is as stupid and inept as Trump himself is.

2:38 maybe Joe Arpiao can pardon him, ha ha. My first thought was that his legalteam want to be off the hook and if Trump directly talks to Mueller he will get the information directly and get him out of office which is why they would force a meeting in the next few weeks.

I think Mueller will put him off and that's a good strategy from a prosecutorial point of view. The timing is Mueller's and I suspect he is making sure ALL of his ducks are in a row. This is just DJT trying to get him off his game. I don't think Mueller will blink, and he shouldn't.

Mr. Mueller hasn't said 1 word through all of this, instead just getting all of his ducks in a row and tightening the noose. Why would he want to talk 1 on 1 with Trump, who will only lie about what was said in another "he said - he said" conversation, just like with Comey, Corker, etc? The longer Mueller waits the more worried, desperate and unhinged Trump will become. I truly believe this will ultimately have a good result for our country.

WHY DOES TRUMP WANT AN INTERVIEW WITH MUELLER BY THANKSGIVING?

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    1. Trump will probably gain 100 lbs on Thanksgiving and wants to stay out of sight?
    Or
    2. Are Trump and his lawyers panicking and want Trump to have only one meeting with Mueller by Thanksgiving?

Why? The more time Mueller has to collect evidence against Trump, the worst it becomes for Trump.

What do you think Trump and the White House want?

I think maybe once Trump has given his only one interaview to Mueller that is it.

We cooperated with Mueller and no there won't be another interview when you discover more incriminating evidence after thanksgiving!!!

Correct. It's not the lying that will move him out of office, it's most likely the crazy that will do him in.

That takes Congress growing a set of balls, a majority Republican Congress that is seeming to be likely to stay majority Republican through the next 8 years, and I don't see that happening during this first term, perhaps they will step up during his second term when they have nothing to lose.

    Who knows? His lawyers?
I doubt this is their idea, but anything is possible. They may be beyond caring if they win or lose in this.

If it doesn't go as Trump plans, he will blame anyone except himself. Lawyers expect some kind of pay day or they owe him. They know he stiffs a lot of people. So they've signed on for that possibility. He isn't getting quality legal representation, they all deserve each other. No one knows how things will go.

Trump may have plans to attack another country and a few more controversial dramas that will keep distractions alive. He will want to look like he is in control of the Muellar drama. I hope he does talk on the record and public. It all seems too crazy.

White House Lawyer Denies Trump Team Is Considering Interview With Mueller

    October 12th, 2017

White House attorney Ty Cobb is pushing back on a report Thursday that President Trump’s attorneys are considering preemptively offering Special Counsel Robert Mueller an interview with Trump....

Cobb said that he’s not sure that Mueller will need to interview Trump as part of his investigation....

While any interview with Trump would be granted in hopes of removing the cloud of suspicion hanging over his presidency, meeting with Mueller could carry legal risks for the Republican.

“Nobody in the White House would be this stupid,” Cobb told TheDC....

Donald Trump’s bizarre and suicidal new endgame for dealing with Robert Mueller

...Trump is now strongly considering the idea of volunteering to testify for Mueller, according to a new Politico report (link). This would be an extraordinarily risky move even if Trump were innocent and mentally sharp – and we all know that he’s neither. If he inadvertently gives away key details, it exponentially increases the odds that Mueller can figure out how to nail him and his underlings. If Trump slips up and tells one demonstrable lie to Mueller, that’s a prosecutable crime in and of itself. And as we’ve all seen lately, Trump has essentially gone incoherently senile to the point of hallucination.

Background check chief has 'never seen' mistakes and omissions at level of Jared Kushner forms

The head of a government bureau responsible for clearing background checks told lawmakers Wednesday he has "never seen that level of mistakes" when asked about numerous omissions in Jared Kushner's security clearance application.

Charles Phalen, the director of the National Background Investigations Bureau, a newly created division within the Office of Personnel Management, made the comment in response to a question during a House subcommittee oversight hearing.
Democrats have called on the White House to revoke security clearances granted to Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, and Ivanka Trump over reports of their use of personal email accounts and Kushner's multiple updates to his security clearance questionnaire, known as SF-86, for failing initially to include meeting with foreign officials.
Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois asked Phalen, "can you recall if there has ever been an applicant having to submit four addenda detailing over 100 errors and omissions being able to maintain their security clearance once those errors and omission have been identified?"
Phalen said he has not seen "the breadth" of all applications "but I have never seen that level of mistakes."
