Courtesy of Newsweek:
Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock was quite the fan of President Donald Trump before he killed 58 people and left another 500 injured—the worst mass shooting in recent U.S. history.
Paddock, a millionaire who reportedly would gamble up to $1 million a night in casinos, was attracted to the president's politics because of the boost the stock market has enjoyed since Trump took office, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo told KLAS, a local CBS affiliate in Las Vegas, during a two-hour interview.
Paddock said "he was happy with Trump because the stock market was doing well," Lombardo said.
Lombardo said he didn't know offhand who Paddock was talking to when he was talking about Trump, adding that it's the "only thing that we have seen that references politics." Authorities do not believe it correlates to a motive in the shooting.
To be clear the man behind the largest mass shooting spree in American history has NO ties to any terrorist organizations, and the only hint we have about his politics is that he was happy with Donald Trump.
Does it mean that his mass murder has anything to do with his political point of view?
Probably not, but if this guy were a Muslim Hillary Clinton supporter would that make any difference to the right wing media?
Nope.

...It is hard to see this statement on her part as anything but an implicit threat. If what she is saying is true, Veselnitskaya is describing the clearest example to date of a proposed quid pro quo between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. A plain reading of her claim is that he was suggesting that if they could produce real evidence against Clinton, a future Trump administration could help with sanctions relief.
That is a huge, huge detail – if it’s true.
Even if you assume it is true, there’s no reason for Veselnitskaya to say it. No one is forcing her to say anything, certainly no legal authority in the United States. So whether it’s true or not almost seems beside the point. The real significance is that she’s suggesting something highly, highly damaging.

Report: Trump Told Tribal Leaders To ‘Just Do It’ And Ignore Drilling Laws
ReplyDeletePresident Donald Trump in June reportedly told tribal leaders to simply drill for energy resources on their land, regardless of regulations that would prevent them from immediately doing so, Axios reported Sunday.
Citing one unnamed source in the room during a meeting between Trump and Native American tribal leaders in June, and another unnamed source who confirmed the account, Axios reported that the tribal leaders told Trump that “there were regulatory barriers preventing them from getting at their energy.”
The President reportedly replied: “But now it’s me. The government’s different now. Obama’s gone; and we’re doing things differently here.”
“So what I’m saying is, just do it,” Trump said, according to Axios.
The President reportedly continued after a pause, addressing a meeting attendee: “Chief, chief, what are they going to do? Once you get it out of the ground are they going to make you put it back in there? I mean, once it’s out of the ground it can’t go back in there. You’ve just got to do it. I’m telling you, chief, you’ve just got to do it.”

"It would have been much worse." Trump shamelessly uses Texas shooting to advertise guns
ReplyDeleteTrump says the answer to the deadliest shooting in modern Texas history is more guns.
While speaking about the horrific mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Trump essentially turned his speech into a gun advertisement.
... [T]his isn’t a guns situation. I mean, we could go into it but it’s a little soon to go into it, but fortunately somebody else had a gun that was shooting in the opposite direction, otherwise it wouldn’t have been as bad as it was, it would’ve been much worse.'
Trump’s words, which echo those of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, basically amount to a crass advertisement of guns, at a time when families’ lives have been shattered by gun culture.
Trump went on to say, “This is a mental health problem at the highest level.”
But that is not an issue Trump has taken seriously either. Upon taking office, he repealed an Obama regulation preventing the mentally ill from buying firearms. If he really believed the issue in each of these mass shootings is mental health, why would he make it even easier for those same people to acquire guns? And why would he suggest the answer is that everyone should go out and buy more guns and carry them everywhere?

http://thefederalist.com/2017/11/06/saints-first-baptist-church-murdered-god-answering-prayers/
ReplyDelete" For those with little understanding of and less regard for the Christian faith, there may be no greater image of prayer’s futility than Christians being gunned down mid-supplication. But for those familiar with the Bible’s promises concerning prayer and violence, nothing could be further from the truth. When those saints of First Baptist Church were murdered yesterday, God wasn’t ignoring their prayers. He was answering them.
“Deliver us from evil.”So when a madman with a rifle sought to persecute the faithful at First Baptist Church on Sunday morning, he failed. Just like those who put Christ to death, and just like those who have brought violence to believers in every generation, this man only succeeded in being the means through which God delivered his children from this evil world into an eternity of righteousness and peace.
“We do not need to fear the day of persecution that’s coming to the church, because God said it’s going to come. He warned us over 2,000 years ago the day was coming. And rather than fear it, He said just endure it. Now ‘endure it’ is a hard word. ‘Endure it’ doesn’t mean that they might take your ice cream away today. ‘Endure it’ means it may be a rough day. It may be a rough few years. But the one who endures to the end will be delivered.”a little more than three years before his 14-year-old daughter and 25 other members of his congregation were murdered. Despite the immense sorrow he, his family, and his congregation are now experiencing, I pray they will still trust in these words."
"Although the murderer filled their eyes with terror, God has now filled them with his glory. Although he persecuted them with violence, God seized that violence and has now used it to deliver his faithful into a kingdom of peace. Although this madman brought death to so many, God has used that death to give them the eternal life won for them in the blood of Je$u$."
So that means we are screwed on earth? We can and will get shot and reap the rewards on the other side?
DeleteAnd when Republicans excuse people killers with prayer and thoughts, it's in God's will? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Let me think on that. Get back to you.
These people weren’t murdered because of their religious beliefs. They got in the way of a mad man on a vendetta.
DeleteConservatives look on bright side of America's latest mass murder: At least it was in a church
Delete...This is true; after you are murdered by a gunman, you will no longer experience suffering or sadness. Again, evidence of the inherent nobility of murderers. And executing people inside a church is, apparently, doing them an extra favor, because God knows right where to find them. He doesn't have to go rummaging around in parking lots or movie theaters; nope, you're right there on heaven's front steps. How fortunate for you.
So that's where we're at now. We're no longer even entertaining the argument that there perhaps ought to be fewer mass murders by furious American gunmen toting the machinery of warfare; now we're looking at the bright side of each individual mass murder, and publicly explaining on our television channels that well at least this one was in a church. That's the best possible place to be murdered by a gunman, after all. The gunman was just “delivering” Americans to their waiting God without the muss of having them live long, full lives. We have to “put this in the context of history”: it’s not like he was Hitler.

Conservative writer: God was ‘answering prayers’ of Texas victims by letting them get shot
ReplyDeleteHans Fiene, a Lutheran pastor who is also a regular contributor to the right-wing website The Federalist, has written a new column in which he explains that allowing 26 people to die at the hands of a crazed gunman at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, this weekend was actually God’s way of answering their prayers.
Fiene begins his column by attacking liberals who have mocked Republican politicians who only offer “thoughts and prayers” for shooting victims — and who don’t take any direct action that could prevent future shootings.
He then explains to liberals that it was part of God’s plan that over two dozen people would get shot up while in their own house of worship.
“It may seem, on the surface, that God was refusing to give such protection to his Texan children,” he writes. “But we are also praying that God would deliver us from evil eternally. Through these same words, we are asking God to deliver us out of this evil world and into his heavenly glory, where no violence, persecution, cruelty, or hatred will ever afflict us again.”
Fiene then says that, in order to fully defeat evil eternally, God has to let evil get some temporary victories, such as this weekend’s mass shooting.
“So when a madman with a rifle sought to persecute the faithful at First Baptist Church on Sunday morning, he failed,” Fiene says. “Just like those who put Christ to death, and just like those who have brought violence to believers in every generation, this man only succeeded in being the means through which God delivered his children from this evil world into an eternity of righteousness and peace.”

“We need to know whether Congress can get around a simple change in the law that includes domestic violence convictions in the military and barring those people from getting weapons,” he bluntly stated. “That is what we should be talking about.”

Delete“Look at what happened with Hitler.” Texas gov downplays deadliest shooting in state history
ReplyDeleteOn Sunday, 26 people were murdered and many more injured in a horrific shooting spree at the Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
The massacre is the deadliest shooting in the state’s history. But Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican who has complained that not enough Texans own guns, appeared on Fox News to offer what he called “context.”
While this mass shooting — as well as another mass shooting that happened in Las Vegas only a month ago, and a terrorist attack in New York a week ago — might seem “heavy right now,” Abbott said, people should put these tragedies in context.
“Look at what happened with Hitler,” he said.
...It is not clear how Abbott thinks that putting recent tragic events in the context of history by comparing them to the millions of people who perished in the Holocaust somehow makes recent events less bad.
Decades later, the Holocaust remains a painful and dark stain on human history and no less tragic to those whose families suffered or were wiped out completely.
For Abbott to suggest that somehow, those people of Sutherland Springs who lost their loved ones Sunday merely think their grief is “heavy right now” because they lack historical context demonstrates a shocking and appalling insensitivity to victims and their families.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tried — and failed — to offer comfort to the citizens of his state grieving a horrific mass shooting by telling them to put it "in context."
ReplyDeleteHalf The People Killed In The Texas Shooting Were Children
The victims were as young as 18 months and as old as 77.

Mr. President, if you want to talk about mental health issues, please, do not use people with mental illness as a scapegoat while you steal away their ability to help themselves.
ReplyDeleteIn Republican lead states around the country, mental health issues are so drastically underfunded that waiting lists exist in states all over the country.
But, on October 5, you changed the law to make one thing easy for those facing serious mental illness, and that’s buying guns.
If you, Mr. President, believe mental illness is the issue, then what do you intend to do about it? What do you intend to do to help mental illness in America? Or do you plan to do what you have always done: make those with mental illness the scapegoat when a white person commits a horrible act, and then, proceed to do absolutely nothing?
I’ve seen this story before. We all have. Dehumanizing people to make them an enemy, then throwing up your hands and saying you can do nothing.
Deplorable.

Whatever, I know a ton of people, most of them old and conservative who voted for Trump. A lot of them don't even own guns and NONE of them is going to go off half cocked and snipe a bunch of folks from a hotel window.
ReplyDeleteFalse equivalency. Trump supporter does not a murderer make.
This kind of hyperbole is why I'm thankful to be an Independent and play all sides of the political fence instead of aligning with the liberals as I used to. This sort of commentary just makes you look weak and lacking insight.
