James O'Keefe attempts to undermine reporting by Washington Post by sending in an operative who lied about having underage sex with Roy Moore and becoming pregnant by him.

Man that is some cringe worthy video right there.

Here's the story courtesy of the Washington Post:

A woman who falsely claimed to The Washington Post that Roy Moore, the Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Alabama, impregnated her as a teenager appears to work with an organization that uses deceptive tactics to secretly record conversations in an effort to embarrass its targets.

In a series of interviews over two weeks, the woman shared a dramatic story about an alleged sexual relationship with Moore in 1992 that led to an abortion when she was 15. During the interviews, she repeatedly pressed Post reporters to give their opinions on the effects that her claims could have on Moore’s candidacy if she went public.

The Post did not publish an article based on her unsubstantiated account. When Post reporters confronted her with inconsistencies in her story and an Internet posting that raised doubts about her motivations, she insisted that she was not working with any organization that targets journalists.

But on Monday morning, Post reporters saw her walking into the New York offices of Project Veritas, an organization that targets the mainstream news media and left-leaning groups. The organization sets up undercover “stings” that involve using false cover stories and covert video recordings meant to expose what the group says is media bias.

James O’Keefe, the Project Veritas founder who was convicted of a misdemeanor in 2010 for using a fake identity to enter a federal building during a previous sting, declined to answer questions about the woman outside the organization’s offices on Monday morning shortly after the woman walked inside.

“I am not doing an interview right now, so I’m not going to say a word,” O’Keefe said.

O'Keefe later posted a heavily edited video of that brief conversation with the Post reporter, which made him look like the hero, but WaPo then released the entire thing, which did not.

So to be clear about what happened here that sniveling POS James O'Keefe hired somebody to pretend to be an actual victim of sexual assault, so that he could attack the actual victims of Roy Moore, and  undermine the journalistic integrity of the mainstream media.

That is a level of fucked up that is almost impossible to comprehend.

“I don’t know that woman professionally or personally, but if this were true if she was trying to dupe the Post, ” $hame on her to do that to those women,” Ruhle exclaimed. “Not just the women who are victims of Roy Moore, but women around the country.”

“Do you know how difficult it is?” she asked as her co-host looked on. “The pain they endure? The bravery associated when you come forward to try to tell your story?

WATCH: Even Fox News is mocking James O’Keefe’s failed WaPo stunt after it ‘backfired spectacularly’

A Fox News panel on Tuesday burned right-wing propagandist James O’Keefe’s failed attempt to trick the Washington Post into reporting a false sexual misconduct allegation against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, as panelist Howard Kurtz said the stunt “backfired spectacularly.”

In particular, Kurtz mocked O’Keefe for thinking that he could simply send undercover Project Veritas agent Jamie Phillips to the Post and get them to unquestioningly print an explosive story about Moore allegedly impregnating her when she was 15 years old and then forcing her to get an abortion.

“To believe the Post would fall for it doesn’t betray much understanding of how newspapers work,” said Kurtz, who worked for years at the paper prior to coming to Fox News. “The Post, to its credit, tried to get documents, corroboration to see whether the story had any truth. They didn’t fall for the repeated efforts to get Post reporters to say this would really hurt Roy Moore’s campaign if we publish this.”

Kurtz went on to admonish O’Keefe for employing “lies about something as horrifying as raping a teenager to entrap the paper” and discredit its work reporting on Moore.

Ex-spy chief Michael Hayden escalates attack on Trump

Michael Hayden, the former CIA and NSA director, usually shows up for a rhetorical fight with a verbal knife, responding to criticism with quote-ready comments, contrarian facts and cutting-edge wit. Late Saturday night, however, the former spy boss was so disgusted by a Donald Trump tweet that he rolled out a cannon.

...“If this is who we are or who we are becoming, I have wasted 40 years of my life,” the former Air Force general tweeted. “Until now it was not possible for me to conceive of an American president capable of such an outrageous assault on truth, a free press or the first amendment.”

Former CIA Deputy Director John McLaughlin, who had called Hayden’s attention to Trump’s tweet, expressed similar shock. “If you...are not dismayed by this, you may now be numb and no longer capable of outrage,” he wrote. “Scary if that’s our new normal.”

Roy Moore alters story about accusers

Roy Moore of Alabama made his first public appearance in almost two weeks on Monday night, and he used it to change his account about a series of accusations of sexual contact with teenage girls and to compare the rush of claims against him to the Trump-Russia investigation.

The Washington Post on Monday published a report about a woman who falsely claimed Roy Moore sexually assaulted her as a teenager — and who appeared to work with Project Veritas, an organization that uses deceptive tactics and secretly recorded conversations in an effort to embarrass its targets.

Shortly after the investigation was published, Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe tweeted a video of what he called his “confrontation” with one of the authors of The Post investigation, Aaron C. Davis. The video was heavily edited, a tactic for which Project Veritas has drawn criticism.

The Post filmed the entire encounter.

The 6 most puzzling aspects of this James O’Keefe-Project Veritas botched sting debacle

The Washington Post on Monday night published a detailed account of an apparent attempt to deceive Post reporters into believing a made-up story of a woman who says she had an abortion after Roy Moore, who is now the GOP Senate nominee in Alabama, impregnated her when she was 15. The woman was seen Monday morning walking into the headquarters of Project Veritas, a political operation that employs deceptive tactics in attempts to embarrass journalists and expose alleged bias.

But however this plot turned out, it's worth recapping just how poorly conceived and executed it was — and just how embarrassing this is for Project Veritas. Shortly after the woman was seen walking into the headquarters, founder James O’Keefe declined to answer questions about her connection to the organization.

Project Veritas has taken down some powerful people, but this was a mess. (And it's not alone in that distinction, as Will Sommer recounts.) Let's take it piece by piece.

But his supporters turn a blind eye to him, just like they’re doing with Molester Moore in Alabama. O’Keefe continues because he gets money from Breitbart and the rabid right to continue doing his “work.” Project Veritas has been shown to be at best biased and at worst evil, but people still believe them. It’s a right wing disease. I’m sure they’re out there saying the Washington Post created that “fake” video to discredit the stellar and holy work of Project Veritas. Man, what an oxymoron of a name.

Obama to meet with Xi Jinping, Narendra Modi on visits to China, India and France

Former *real* president Barack Obama has embarked on a three-nation tour with stops in China, India and France, during which he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his office announced Tuesday.

The tour comes just two weeks after President Trump held a summit with Xi in Beijing and days after Trump's daughter, Ivanka, a White House adviser, participated in a global economic summit in Hyderabad, India.

Obama opened his trip Tuesday in Shanghai, where he held private meetings and spoke at a trade summit. On Wednesday, he will participate in an education summit in Beijing and meet with Xi.

    Wow. Now that's a cover!

    Seriously, Newsweek?

Have we entered an era where nothing matters, as long as it gets attention? Does every news outlet now have the mentality of a naughty toddler?

Newsweek publishes this cover, showing a balloon-animal shaped like a big ol' penis, being pin pricked by a white woman with a eighty-dollar hand-model manicure.

Because that's what #metoo is about. Well-to-do white women pin pricking giant balloons of the patriarchy. Got it.

Photographer Judy Walgren takes this imagery to its logical conclusion:

Our collective trauma and rage cannot be depicted as a thin hatpin and anyone with any integrity knows this to be true. Where are the sharp teeth closing around that shaft? Where is the fire licking away on the scrotum? Where is the hammer crushing the head into the ground?

    Exactly, Judy! Where's the CASTRATION?

    But seriously, she continues:

I am of a certain age to remember a time when Newsweek was an award-winning outlet for powerful news photography. Some ask, why we should care about what Newsweek puts out as they are not relevant anymore? Let’s just say that with 3.3 million followers on Twitter — that is not irrelevant….

Oh and by the way — this is not merely a white woman’s rage — this rage comes in all sizes, weights, ages, cultures and colors. One more thing not reflected here.

The tax bill is bringing drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge closer than ever

After nearly 40 years, a simple majority vote stands between drillers and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Republican tax reform bill expected to come to a vote this week is bringing Alaskan lawmakers the closest they’ve ever been to a prize they’ve coveted for decades: permission from Congress to open up sections of the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling.

To them, the refuge is a chance to make the state more economically resilient and refill Alaska’s Permanent Fund, which has been paying shrinking dividends from oil and gas revenue to Alaskans in recent years.

But time after time, Alaskan leaders have been stymied — as environmentalists have made blocking drilling in ANWR a rallying cry and Congress has offered tepid support at best and outright hostility at worst.

Now after nearly 40 years, the Alaska delegation, led by Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, is the closest it’s ever been to the ANWR prize.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, which Murkowski chairs, passed legislation earlier this month by a 13 to 10 vote that opens ANWR to energy development.

Trump’s phony populism is fully exposed in the Republican tax bill

This bill is not for the forgotten men and women of America.

Donald Trump promised a presidency for the forgotten Americans.

“The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer,” Trump said as he stood on the Capitol steps in January after taking the oath of office. “Everyone is listening to you now.”

Trump’s electoral success was supposed to signal that Republicans had tapped into populism abandoned by the left. But if anything, the Republican tax bill — which is likely the party’s only piece of major legislation to pass this year and is moving through Congress at lightning speed — does the opposite of what Trump promised. It is centered on one nonnegotiable point: cutting the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent.

“The entire architecture of the bill is built around a permanent corporate tax cut, and everything else is meant to fit around that,” Jacob Leibenluft, a former Obama White House economist who is now at the left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, told me.

(Several other tax experts, liberal and conservative, generally agreed with that assessment.)

Everything else — the provisions for the “forgotten men and women of our country” — could be bartered.

To comply with the Senate’s “budget reconciliation” rules, the tax bill would repeal Obamacare’s individual mandate, which would lead to higher insurance premiums and an estimated 13 million fewer Americans having health coverage. To fix the deficit problem within their own party, they have decided to make the individual tax cuts begin to expire in 2025.

Almost every independent evaluation of the House and Senate plans has found a $1 trillion tax cut for corporations and changes to the individual tax code that would benefit wealthier Americans while leading to millions of middle-class and lower-income people paying higher taxes than they do now.

This is not the populism that was promised.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/nov/28/project-veritas-protesters-trial-trump-inauguration-protest

"Federal prosecutors targeting anti-Trump protesters are relying on video evidence from Project Veritas, a far-right group under fire this week for allegedly trying to dupe the Washington Post with a false story of sexual misconduct.

The US attorney’s office submitted the footage in court on Tuesday as part of an ongoing trial against activists who protested Donald Trump’s inauguration and now face conspiracy and rioting charges that could lead to decades in prison.

Prosecutors played the video – which reportedly showed undercover footage from a meeting of activists – one day after the Washington Post reported that Project Veritas had sent a woman undercover pretending to be a victim of Roy Moore, the US Senate candidate accused of sexual misconduct. "

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh, it gets better. They're using a James O'Keefe tape in the protestors trial.

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/james-o-keefe-project-veritas-inauguration-trial-j20_us_5a1daafbe4b079c1128a462f?section=us_politics

"A Justice Department prosecutor pursuing felony convictions for six of the hundreds of individuals arrested during President Donald Trump’s inauguration successfully introduced to a jury on Tuesday a video of a protest planning meeting that was secretly recorded by a controversial organization run by conservative activist James O’Keefe.

The video, shot by an affiliate of O’Keefe’s Project Veritas, shows a Jan. 8 meeting in a church basement in northwest Washington. It was shown to the jury during Tuesday’s testimony of Officer Bryan Adelmeyer of the Metropolitan Police Department, who went undercover to suss out protesters’ plans for Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20."

Now you know that tape is going to be exposed for the piece of highly edited lying crap that it is.

The latest Project Veritas FAIL against the Washington Post may not be admissible but you know it will play a part in discrediting O'Keefe and his minions.

"So far, prosecutors have not alleged that any of the six defendants on trial individually caused any destruction but instead argued that they enabled those who did. One of the defendants is a photographer who had taken an interest in covering demonstrations throughout the United States. "

I highly recommend reading this article:

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/j20-inauguration-rioting-felony-charges-journalist-alexei-wood_us_5a0cb991e4b0c0b2f2f78aed?section=us_politics

"Editor’s note: Taking a cue from Slate, this article describes an American news story — the virtually unprecedented prosecution of nearly 200 protesters on felony charges — using language the American media typically reserves for news stories written about more repressive countries. Felony charges against American journalists are jarring. Our approach to this story is meant to be as well."

Read it. Really. It's powerful and it hits home about the fascist direction our country is heading in under Trump and the erosion of our First Amendment rights.

"Over the past year, prosecutors cracked into at least eight of the cellphones confiscated from defendants, extracting some of their internet histories, communications and pictures to be used as evidence in court."

    Speaking of which:

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/supreme-court-may-overturn-decades-precedent-cellphone-privacy-case-141111449.html

"The U.S. Supreme Court will hear a closely watched case on Wednesday that will determine whether authorities can search your cellphone location data without a warrant, in a dispute that could upend decades of privacy precedent.

The case, Carpenter v. U.S., will look at whether the Fourth Amendment — which guarantees your right against unreasonable searches and seizures — protects you against warrantless searches of cellphone records that track your movements."

Once again, it's who sits on the bench that is essential for protecting our freedoms. And that is in Trump's hands. Well, McConnell's. But the result is the same. The fascists give Trump a list, he nominates them, McConnell rushes them through.
