This is courtesy of Jennifer Rubin writing for the Salt Lake Tribune:
Republicans grilling McCabe over the FBI’s handling of Clinton’s emails and their conspiracy theorizing substantiate our suspicions that GOP members of Congress have zero interest in conducting a serious investigation of the president’s possible collusion with Russia and obstruction of justice.
“President Trump has called Jim Comey a liar and likewise suggested that Comey committed a crime by lying under oath about their conversations,” Susan Hennessey of the Lawfare blog tells me. “Notably, Comey gave his account under penalty of perjury, while Trump, to date, has not. Comey also substantiated his story with contemporaneous memos.”
She continued: “Now we learn that Andrew McCabe can offer further corroboration that what Comey said was true and that he shared the details at the time. That means that, conversely, the deputy FBI director has testified the president is lying to the American people.”
She argued, “I don’t think that many serious people genuinely questioned whether the famously, even notoriously forthright former FBI director or the president, who has a habitually tenuous relationship with the truth, was being honest. But to the extent there were any lingering doubts, McCabe’s testimony should put them to rest.”
The Republicans, by their conduct, implicitly recognize Trump’s weak defense to a potential obstruction charge. Contrary to the Trump attorney’s mumbo jumbo, they realize that a sitting president with a corrupt intent can be cited for obstruction of justice, although the case might need to be prosecuted after he leaves office.
Second, Republicans understand that if the fact pattern is believed, Trump at the very least committed an impeachable action (although not necessarily a criminal violation of federal statute) in pressuring the then-FBI director to lay off of Michael Flynn and curtail the Russia investigation. If the facts here were not so damning, Republicans would not find it necessary to call into question the credibility of the entire FBI.
Third, the Republicans will have their hands full if they go down this road. Not only McCabe but also other FBI officials may have been told of Trump’s pursuit of a loyalty oath from Comey. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency director Mike Rogers as well as other members of the White House staff may be privy to Trump’s statements about Comey and efforts to get Comey to relent from investigating Flynn. That’s a lot of people to discredit if the GOP is bent on circling the wagons around a president who has neither the law nor the facts on his side.
The spectacle of Republicans trying to cook up a spurious case of corruption against the entire FBI is strong evidence of their inability to take their constitutional responsibilities seriously. If we are to get a fair investigation and consideration of the facts as well as a mature examination of whether those facts rise to an impeachable offense, it likely won’t come with a GOP majority in control of the House and Senate.
As much as people may want to pin their hopes on Robert Mueller and his investigation, the truth is that even if what he finds is undeniably incriminating, if the Republicans who are in charge do not want anything to come of it, nothing will come of it.
If we want justice we have to fight for that justice, and that means turning out to vote in 2018 in numbers that will have Republicans hiding under their beds in terror.
We already know that Donald Trump is unfit for office, but the fact is so are all of the Republicans who are making excuses for him and genuflecting in his presence.
They all must go, and only then will we see this country returned to its former glory.
‘Dollar, dollar bills, y’all!’: MSNBC panel explains how Trump is ‘running a criminal enterprise out of the White House’
ReplyDelete“It’s normal for Donald Trump, this is what he’s been doing since day one,” explained Richard Painter, who served as chief White House ethics lawyer during the George W. Bush administration. “What he’s doing here is he is making a lot of money off the presidency.”
“The promotion is extraordinary,” Dr. Dean noted. “It is pretty clear he is shaking down foreign governments, or his staff are shaking down foreign governments, who have moved their events to his hotel in Washington at somebody’s bequest, in order to get favors.”
“You know this guy, I’ve said for a long time, I think he’s running a criminal enterprise out of the White House,” Dean explained.
“I think that’s what Bob Mueller is on the track of,” the former DNC Chair suggested. “He’s shaking down people.”
Dr. Dean loudly complained about the process behind the tax cut bill.
“That’s crookedness, that’s crookedness, that can’t be legal,” Dean argued. “This system broken, the Republicans are the party of corruption.”

DeleteTrump Sets A Shocking Record For Laziness By Taking 5 Times More Vacation Days Than Obama
ReplyDeleteAs 2017 draws to a close, Donald Trump has blown the record for presidential first year vacation days out of the water. DeleteTrump gives nursing homes shocking green light to abuse elderly to point of death
ReplyDeleteThe Trump administration has told nursing homes that they can feel free to abuse or neglect the elderly, even to the point of death, and see almost no repercussions for it.
...The fines, designed to prod nursing homes into treating elderly Americans with more care, respect, and dignity, were put in place by President Barack Obama and sought to make the institutions answerable to standards put together by Medicare.
Between 2013 and this year, 6,500 nursing homes — 4 out of every 10 — have been cited for serious violations. Under the Obama policies, two-thirds of those homes were fined.
...In his eagerness to undo as many regulations as possible, regardless of consequence, Donald Trump has thrown those policies out the window after the lobbyists for companies that operate the homes got the ear of his administration. A memo from the Trump administration referred to these fines as penalizing a “one-time mistake.” Even if that “one-time mistake” killed someone’s grandmother.
The Times notes one nursing home where the failure to monitor and treat a patient’s wound led to a pain-medication pump slipping through a ruptured suture, protruding from her abdomen. Under the Obama rules, the nursing home at fault — Lincoln Manor in Illinois — was fined $282,954. Under Trump, the home where a person died because of neglect would be fined less than $21,000.

A nursing home is the LAST place I'd put a parent! (Who can afford it?)
DeleteThe best place for a parent is in your own home (or in theirs, if still able). You can hire someone to come in and care for them as it is needed. WITH CLOSE OBSERVATIONS to assure the care you are having provided is being done with kindness and respect and as the instructions have been laid out.
May Trump end up in a nursing home. An expensive nursing home is no guarantee against elder abuse.
DeleteMay trump and family end up in public prison care forever. He will not receive one penny or help from americans.
DeleteAfter winning Alabama, Democrats are contesting nearly every seat in Congress in 2018
ReplyDeleteDemocrats are lining up all over the country to challenge Republican members of the House. And not just in swing districts.
There are no good hiding places for the GOP.
That’s the message a flood of looming Democratic candidates are sending to Republicans as the GOP braces for the 2018 election season, especially after the amazing flip of the Alabama Senate seat earlier this month.
Democrats are not only targeting vulnerable Republicans in the House who won in districts that Hillary Clinton carried in 2016, of which there are currently two dozen. They’re also lining up to challenge Republicans in traditionally safe GOP districts.
Example: Texas Rep. Pete Sessions won re-election unopposed by a Democratic candidate in 2016. For 2018, he already has 10 Democratic opponents who want to try to knock him off.
According to Federal Elections Commission filings, Democrats are poised to oppose every Republican in the House, minus just 20 seats. “By comparison, Democrats in 80 districts do not have a Republican opponent for their seat,” the New York Times reports.
And the money is pouring in. For two long-shot special election contests in the deeply red states of Georgia and Alabama this year, Democratic candidates raised more than $40 million.
It’s all part of an outpouring of electoral energy and enthusiasm among Democrats, who can’t wait to get to the polls and send Republicans and Donald Trump a message.
...Democrats want to make sure that electoral misery for Republicans is felt in nearly every district in the country.
https://shareblue.com/after-winning-alabama-democrats-are-contesting-nearly-every-seat-in-congress-in-2018/
What Democrats really need to do is get together and decide on the one, strongest candidate and have only that one run in the primaries. Then, when applicable, if that candidate wins more than 50% of the vote, they win. If Democrats had done that, Osoff would have won in the primary.
DeleteWhat Democrats really need to do is get together a ARMY of the strongest candidates and sweep this nation today. Change is in the air and a new bright healing year ahead without the toxic hateful corrupt lying republicans.

CNN Analyst: Trump Going After the FBI Is ‘Making the Russians’ Job a Lot Easier’
ReplyDeletehttps://www.mediaite.com/tv/cnn-analyst-trump-going-after-the-fbi-is-making-the-russians-job-a-lot-easier/
(THREAD) 20 Things Guilty People Do That Trump Does Daily
ReplyDeleteAs a former criminal defense attorney, I've sat in rooms candidly discussing crime with thousands of criminals. I know what "consciousness of guilt" looks like. Trump exhibits it daily.
I hope you'll read and share this.
#1 DEFLECT BLAME. Criminals seek others who may have conducted themselves poorly in order to unload or distribute blame rightly assigned to them. Trump does this with ex-aides like Manafort, Flynn, and Papadopoulos, who he presents as little known by him and/or having gone rogue.
#2 ALLEGE A CONSPIRACY. Criminals will claim a conspiracy as the cause of their problems. The most common conspiracy alleged is between witnesses or members of law enforcement. Trump repeatedly alleges that government officials and law enforcement officers conspired against him.
3 COMPLAIN ABOUT LAW ENFORCEMENT. Criminals want to talk about the investigation itself, rather than what and who the investigation is investigating. Trump obsessively complains about aspects of the investigation against him that don't actually change the underlying evidence.
#10 EXHIBIT UNUSUAL AGITATION. Criminals exhibit anger in response to warranted criminal accusations; in my own experience, innocent people react to false accusations with signs of confusion, fear, and depression. Trump has responded to Mueller with rage and false self-assurance.
#15 TELL UNNECESSARY, GRANDIOSE LIES. Criminals lie out of fear; they tell grandiose lies out of a false belief they can orchestrate their exoneration. Trump's lies about how he conducted himself at the Ritz Moscow in 2013 (grandiose and quickly disproven) are an example of this.
https://twitter.com/SethAbramson/status/945726566549590019
Only a guilty person claims they are being framed before the investigation is complete. An innocent person would be surprised by a finding of guilt and would welcome a complete and open investigation.

DeleteMurkowski, of Alaska (a Republican) genuflects to Trump constantly and she needs to go when she comes up for reelection. How anyone voted for her in the first place has always been beyond me! She was the alternate to Palin (via her Dad) and that is why she has her current place in Congress.
ReplyDeleteVote wisely, Alaskans! Republicans (also the majority in Alaska) need to go on the national, state and local levels.
Especially be wise enough NOT reelect Donald Trump!
Her daddy is an ass grabber
DeleteThere were about 30,000 votes for Murky that should have gone to the Democratic Party candidate in that election. I think because he was a novice to national & to some extent state politics they when to Murky. I hope these people who voted for Murky instead of the Democrat are losing a lot of sleep these days.
DeleteThe Dem candidate, Ray Metcalfe, never had a chance of winning and if people of all parties DIDN'T vote for Murkowski then we ran the risk of sending Joe Miller to Washington, but when you really stop to think about it, Miller and Murky are basically the same person as far as their vote in Congress.
DeleteThe winning margin came from Dems and Independents who went to "the dark side" and voted Murky over Metcalfe.
It seems for naught now as Miller would have just been one more lunatic in DC but our vote was based on the fact that Lisa used to be more bipartisan. She did the right thing on the healthcare vote this summer, most likely because she knew that she'd vote 'yes' on the tax bill that would quash the mandate because it seems she never does the "right thing" unless in the end her GOP agenda of evil is fulfilled.
Suffice it to say, this Indie voter will NOT vote for her ever again even if my vote for another candidate is wasted.
She, Miller, Sullivan, they're all basically cut from the same mold and it matters little which one actually has the title of "Senator".
Wish we could find another strong Dem like Begich who would have a chance but those don't turn up very often 'round here.
Metcalf was running in last election. The candidate that was running against Murky in her first full term as senator was the former mayor of Sitka at one time. That is the election 30k voters jumped ship and voted for her.
DeleteI listened to a small portion of the Hannity radio show and the Dan Savage show. They were relentless hammering away at the corruption of the FBI and DOJ. They claim pro Clinton people are conspiring to delegitimization the election. I heard several lies.
ReplyDeleteI think the American people agree that the election was illegal, corrupt and is delegitimized. We are a country without a president today. Until a new election we cannot move forward. You cannot legit a rigged election. It is not possible. We do not allow it. Trump must be removed and charged for his crimes and a new proper legal election completed. Republicans will pay dearly.

DeleteYep darned straight. Shame on US if we aren't out organizing and getting out the vote for November. We can't wait around for Mueller to take care of it. Virginia and Alabama showed us how it's done, vote by vote.
DeleteWatergate reporter lambastes GOP’s ‘deep state’ whining: The FBI isn’t ‘tainted’ — Trump is
ReplyDeleteWatergate’s veteran reporter Carl Bernstein knows a thing or two about presidents undermining those who investigate them — and he’s calling B.S. on the president’s latest claim that the FBI is “tainted” by conspirators who are working against him.
“Everybody else is the issue here, not Donald Trump and his actions or those around him,” Bernstein said, mocking the president’s apparent mentality.
“The key word in all of this that [President Trump] keeps using is ‘tainted,'” he continued. “There’s only one institution that has been tainted through these months and that is the Trump presidency. It’s tainted by the president’s lies, by his disrespect for American institutions operating under the law with traditional American democracy and the instruments thereof.”
The president’s “constant attacks” on the FBI and special counsel Robert Mueller, which have been parroted by congressional Republicans and right-wing media, are undermining “confidence in the legitimate institutions of our government, which are trying to do their job.”
“If the president is as confident as he says that this investigation is going to end very soon and with him being exonerated,” Bernstein concluded, “he ought to welcome all this instead of attacking constantly.”
Watch the veteran Watergate reporter describe who’s really doing the “tainting” below, via CNN.

Robert Mueller May Indict Paul Manafort Again
ReplyDeleteThe charges against the former Trump campaign boss appear to have been only an opening salvo in a legal barrage on the president’s confidants, informed observers say.
From its inception, two things about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation were clear: first, the White House’s biggest concern was that Mueller would follow the money; and second, Mueller is following the money.
...And, most importantly, he’s sent a thinly veiled warning to the White House: No one’s finances are off limits. If 2017 had the president’s inner circle sweating, 2018 could feel like a sauna.
...Additional trouble for Team Trump could arise out of the blizzard of subpoenas that reportedly went out to Deutsche Bank in the last few weeks.
The German mega-bank is likely accustomed to hot water. In January of 2017, they agreed to pay $425 million to the New York Department of Financial Services to settle allegations that they let Russian traders engage in what those regulators called “a money-laundering scheme.” In that particular scheme, Russians moved $10 billion to the United States.

USA Today editorial smacks down GOP’s ‘odious campaign to tarnish Mueller and his investigators’
ReplyDeleteUSA Today newspaper published a powerful new editorial against the “smearing” of special counsel Robert Mueller.
“When Robert Mueller was appointed in May to oversee the investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 campaign, he was universally praised as the perfect choice,” USA Today reminded. “Amid the contemptible efforts to discredit Mueller’s investigation, let’s pause for a moment to remember who he is: A Republican. A Marine Corps veteran who earned a Bronze Star for valor and Purple Heart for a gunshot wound to his thigh during combat in Vietnam. A longtime federal prosecutor before President George W. Bush nominated him to direct the FBI in 2001 and the Senate unanimously confirmed him.”
“Yet as the Russia investigation gathered steam with charges brought against four former Trump campaign officials in recent months, a coterie of Republican congressmen, joined by commentators on Fox News and other Trump-friendly media outlets, have started calling for Mueller’s head,” USA Today explained. “Rarely has the American public been suddenly asked to revile a public figure once so widely revered.”
The newspaper says Congress needs to pass legislation to protect the investigation.
“The factions calling the special counsel’s fairness into question are laying the groundwork for either undermining Mueller’s conclusions or firing him. To pre-empt his possible removal, Congress should promptly pass bipartisan legislation to provide greater protections for the special counsel,” the editorial urged.
“Where logic falls away amid the odious campaign to tarnish Mueller and his investigators — bolstered Tuesday by Trump’s latest ‘FBI TAINTED’ tweet — is with the prospect that the president might well be innocent of wrongdoing.
“Imagine if that’s true. If the Russia story is truly ‘fake news’ and a ‘witch hunt,’ as the president and his minions insist, why would they sling mud at the very people and institutions that would place their valuable imprimatur on such a conclusion?” the newspaper asked.
“Why, you have to wonder, are they so worried about what Mueller’s investigation might reveal?” USA Today pondered.

maybe Mulder and Scully should be the ones to arrest trump. we trust them.
DeleteWashington Post columnist Dana Milbank warned Americans of the “extraordinary collateral damage” caused by President Donald Trump attacking the credibility of the FBI to attempt to distract from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
ReplyDelete“President Trump spent part of his Christmas holiday attacking the FBI and one of its top officials. This morning, President Trump was back at it again,” MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki noted, while guest hosting Hardball.
“Now the attacks seem to be part of a broader strategy by some on the right to undermine the FBI and the special counsel Robert Mueller,” Kornacki explained.
Washington Post columnist Dana Milbrank examined the evolving defense coming from the White House.
“Originally they were saying, ‘well, the president will be exonerated, Mueller won’t come up with anything.’ Clearly he’s coming up with things,” Milbank noted.
“He’s got the multiple indictments and guilty pleas and based on where we see things going it’s getting closer and closer to the president. So the idea now is exactly to inoculate the president so that whatever Mueller says, they will be able to say, ‘well, it’s a discredited investigation.'”
“The problem is the extraordinary collateral damage of telling Americans that the FBI is corrupt and tainted and not to believe in our system of law,” Milbank warned.

DeleteThose Congress Republicans are wasting their time in 'genuflecting' before Trump.
DeleteI learned to do that in the Catholic Church (as a child) and would never waste my time doing it before Trump who so badly wants to be loved and thanked every hour of the day!
Ivanka Trump's Old Jewelry Business Linked To Laundering Money
ReplyDeleteA powerful oil trading family used first daughter Ivanka Trump's defunct jewelry business to conceal roughly $100 million it owed to the Commercial Bank of Dubai, GQ pointed out Friday, citing a June filing at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Let's see jail for this.
DeleteIt's sure apparent you can't trust any of the Trump klan - thieves all of them!
DeleteI called that a year back. Nothing will happen to Donald because of the Republican party. It's McConnell who calls the shots. The minute McConnell decides that Donald has to go, Donald is history.
ReplyDeleteAnd something is going to happen to the republican party historically. We will get them out pronto. The USA citizens are wide awake now and the republican party is on the BBQ.
DeleteThe Kennedy Center Honors was wonderful tonight sans the sour dour countenance of #45 and his Barbie-wannabe. He would have hated it; black people, brown people and a jew. In his absence a good time was had by all and he wasn’t missed. Still wished they would have invited Obama as a guest instead but I guess you can’t rub Trump’s nose in it too much, especially if you get ANY Federal funding. We all know what a petulant toddler he is, withholding funds when he doesn’t get his way.
ReplyDeleteI watched the show on TV and was delighted Trump and his wife were NOT in attendance. It made the evening so much nicer. Loved it!
DeleteSo glad that toxic pos did not attend. The worst actor and liar on the planet has no business in the building. Anyway the American people have CUT him off financially. NO USA TAX DOLLARS to support a fraud, LIAR and RIGGER. NO USA TAX DOLLARS for that fraud to fly around in our jet to go golfing. The largest RUMP with the most CHIT ever. DEMAND paper numbered ballots, traceable and chain of custody. TRAP the pigs and STOP the pigs. Code word...Dotard and Dildo are grounded.
ReplyDeleteSo all peasants know your grabber-o-pu elected officials once your taxes increase. They will be living in luxury while you squalor in your towns.
ReplyDeleteThat could be true. But sadly money does not bring happiness nor health. All the money in the world can bring unhappiness, despair, sadness, paranoia and an empty soul. Add in disease. All the money in the world cannot heal their evil souls. May they squalor to their demise. May the earth shake them to their knees, and the sea wash them to their fate.
DeleteAwe, Sarah didn't make the cut? Snark.
DeleteWe know who they are.
DeleteAnd we know who to blame.

"Some of the conspirators merit special attention:
Gary Cohn. National Economic Council Director
Marco Rubio
Donald Trump
Jeff Flake
Paul Ryan
Steven Mnuchin
Mitch McConnell
Susan Collins
John McCain"
I would also like to add Bob Corker, the hypocrite.
Jen Rubin is a frigging neo con hag.
