Colorado middle school teacher on paid leave after being accused of assaulting a student for sitting during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Courtesy of the Times-Call:

A Lafayette middle school teacher is on paid leave pending the outcome of a police investigation into allegations that she assaulted a student who refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance on Thursday.

Boulder Valley School District spokesman Randy Barber said that Angevine Middle School physical education teacher Karen Smith, who he called a 20-year veteran of the school district, is on paid administrative leave.

Beating students into showing respect for their country, gee that's a good idea.

Having grown up in the 60's and 70's I know that approach to behavior modification quite well.

As it turns out the Boulder Valley School District has a policy which allows students to sit during the Pledge, but apparently physical education teacher Eva Braun did not get the memo.

Clearly Donald Trump's poison is spreading through the country.

This kind of bullshit makes me want to sit during the pledge.

How many flag worshippers will get their fat @sses off the couch to stand for the anthem Super Bowl today? Too busy stuffing their faces.

Think about it! Have you ever seen anyone stand for the anthem in their own homes? I'm as old as dirt and haven't!

#1 I totally support the kneel. Resist!

I have many, many times stood at home for the anthem. I see/feel more disrespect of our country from improper FLAG displays and garb-daily!

Oust her butt; plenty of charter schools more than willing to hire her no doubt.

So much for the biblical command to not worship graven images, right?

  4. It isn't the so-called president's poison. This poison has always existed. The bitter divisive tone espoused by the liar in chief allows the poison to be more blatant and encouraged. Simply put, the bandage has come off.

". “You are not Americans. You are communists. And the day of the rope is coming,” one message read, referring to a sequence in an overtly racist novel, The Turner Diaries, in which so-called race traitors are murdered in the streets.

The incident illustrates the volatility of issues involving racism in the era of social media—particularly when involving minors.

“Unfortunately, a great deal of misinformation about this particular situation has been spread through social media and some websites,” said a statement from Alachua County Public Schools that was published in the aftermath of Babe’s reporting. “We encourage citizens to recognize that much of the information they are hearing and/or reading about this situation is not accurate.”"

That stupid hag. Kids have right to have their own beliefs. I skipped every pep rally in high school and we were allowed to. My friend and I stayed in the classroom and wrote rude things on the board. of course we erased it. Wee wanted nothing to do with those pep rallies, we didn't have school spirit. At least they let us do that back then in the 70s. Donald Trump and his fascism is spreading across his country and it is very dangerous.

Various religious cults (Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.) don't stand for the pledge and that's perfectly ok.

  10. I was a teacher in California for 37 years and since day one we have always allowed students to sit during the pledge WHEN there has been any pledge at all. Religious reasons. In fact, we don't even ask. Never have.

When I started the pledge would be said every morning, then it was once a week on Monday morning. Some schools simply played an orchestral version of a patriotic song for 60 seconds in the morning. It varied from school to school. But never has any child be forced to stand or make any acknowledgement of the pledge or flag. We not only have Jehovah's Witnesses in our community but also a large immigrant population from Asia and Africa with many faiths represented.

    Eva Braun is right.

It's the right wing "patriots" that seem to be the most UNpatriotic Americans of all.

What these idiots really want is an authoritarian regime where all your behavior is controlled according to their rigid beliefs.

Ironically that flag represents the FREEDOM to decline standing and saluting the flag.
I find it surprising that so many people don't understand that.
I find it amazing that some teachers don't understand that.
