Donald Trump used photo of recovering Florida school shooting victim in email asking for campaign donations.

Courtesy of CNN:

President Donald Trump's re-election campaign used a photo of a survivor of the Parkland, Florida, shooting in an email Saturday that asks its recipients to donate money to the campaign.

The email contains a photo of 17-year-old Madeleine Wilford in a hospital bed surrounded by her family, Trump and the first lady. The President visited Wilford on February 16, two days after the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which left 17 dead.

"The nation has turned its attention to the senseless school shooting in Parkland, Florida," the email reads.

"Trump is taking steps toward banning gun bump stocks and strengthening background checks for gun purchasers," it says. "The President has made his intent very clear: 'making our schools and our children safer will be our top priority.'"

Near the end of the message, there's a link to the campaign's donations page.

If you ever needed evidence that Trump is a classless POS, well now you have it.

I have heard that this young ladies parents are Trump supporters, so MAYBE he had their permission to use this photo, but even if that is true using a victim of a school shooting to raise money for the NRA's favorite president is simply disgusting.

I hope she has a full recovery.
And if the family did NOT give permission to use that photo, I hope they have the energy and emotional stamina to sue trump millions - and use some of the money to fight him and the nra

This morning the networks were saying she was to have a press conference. I was expecting some pro-Trump speech, if not from her, from her parents. All I heard from her were sincere words of gratitude to many people. Unless more happened and I missed it, it was not a press conference and Trump praise session, like he may have expected it to be.

John Oliver Unloads on Trump and the NRA for Wanting to Arm 700,000 Teachers
In the wake of the Parkland mass shooting, the ‘Last Week Tonight’ host couldn’t believe that Trump floated the idea of arming 20 percent of U.S. teachers—or 700,000 of them.

...“Yeah. So it’s no wonder the NRA likes this solution—it involves buying hundreds of thousands of guns, and that’s their solution to everything. They probably deal with climate change by pointing a Glock at the ocean and daring that motherfucker to rise,” cracked Oliver. “And it’s worth noting that one of the key groups expressing doubts about this idea are teachers.”

Only 6.5% of gun owners belong to the NRA. Only 1.3% of Americans do. Well under half of Americans approve of the NRA. A majority of the NRA's members disagree with its positions. The NRA is a radical group run by gun manufacturers—it runs U.S. gun policy via large-scale bribery.

No surprise: Dana Loesch lied about the Founding Fathers, lied about the Constitution, and lied about how the Second Amendment was understood in the 1700s at CNN's Town Hall. This is what these people are—propagandists bought and paid for by the gun lobby.

Teen rips Trump for using friend’s hospital photo to raise campaign cash

'Don’t you fucking dare use a photo of one of my best friends for your benefit. If you truly cared, maybe you would have stayed at the hospital longer than 20 minutes.'

Trump’s ghoulish move of using an image of a student wrapped in bandages to raise campaign funds adds to the growing list of insensitive and unsightly missteps, including blaming the community itself for the shooting, and having aides call the tragedy a “relief” from the administration’s other mounting scandals.

Trump himself was reduced to using empathy Cliffs notes at a White House “listening session” with survivors of gun violence so he could fake a connection with them.

But Trump clearly didn’t listen to their concerns, because after their heartfelt pleas to address gun violence, he simply launched into his NRA talking points about flooding American schools with more guns.

Billionaire NRA member won’t donate to GOP unless he gets gun control

...Republicans received a fresh blow in the wake of the Parkland school shooting as a major South Florida billionaire donor issued an ultimatum: Support gun control or lose funding.

Mike Fernandez, a private equity manager who has given millions to GOP candidates including Gov. Rick Scott, is taking a stand. “I will not give one cent to anyone who does not support major change regarding military-type weapons being sold,” he told reporters at WLRN.

Fernandez, a dues-paying member of the National Rifle Association, also said he will not renew his membership.

Crowd roars for teen who stands up to GOP senator over guns at town hall

...Grassley, one of the few Republicans willing to face his constituents at town halls, was confronted by 18-year-old Eden Knoop at an event in Manchester.

Knoop described the catastrophic injuries that result from firearms like the AR-15. With those weapons, “the bullet leaves the rifle with such velocity and such energy that it tears through organs and muscle,” she noted.

“Students are afraid, and they are afraid because of weapons like the AR-15,” Knoop continued. “So my question to you is, what are you going to do to prevent, and to protect us from weapons like the AR-15?”

The crowd immediately roared with approval.

""You shall love your crooked neighbor with your crooked heart."- W.H. Auden

My favorite lessons are from Matthew's gospel. Blessed are the meek, blessed are the peacemakers, and let your shine in the darkness, pray in private, don't act all holy and good, and the big one: love your neighbor as yourself. "Neighbor" meaning everyone, basically. Even the jerks. And that is the tricky, and yet most crucial part of being a Christian, isn't it? Which is why I love this verse about my crooked heart, from my fellow Episcopalian, poet W.H. Auden.

He also wrote this verse, about why love is so important, no matter what your faith is:

    I and the public know

    What all schoolchildren learn,

Those to whom evil is done,

    Do evil in return."

    The N.R.A. Lobbyist Behind Florida’s Pro-Gun Policies

Marion Hammer’s unique influence over legislators has produced laws that dramatically alter long-held American norms.

...Hammer is the National Rifle Association’s Florida lobbyist. At seventy-eight years old, she is nearing four decades as the most influential gun lobbyist in the United States. Her policies have elevated Florida’s gun owners to a uniquely privileged status, and made the public carrying of firearms a fact of daily life in the state. Daley was referring to a law that Hammer worked to enact in 2011, during Governor Rick Scott’s first year in office. The statute punishes local officials who attempt to establish gun regulations stricter than those imposed at the state level. Officials can be fined thousands of dollars and removed from office.

...Hammer is not an elected official, but she can create policy, see it through to passage, and use government resources to achieve her aims. These days, Florida’s Republican-controlled legislature almost never allows any bill that appears to hinder gun owners to come up for a vote. According to Mac Stipanovich, a longtime Florida Republican strategist and lobbyist, Hammer is “in a class by herself. When you approach a certain level, where the legislator is basically a fig leaf, well, that’s not the rule.”

Marion P. Hammer was the first female President of the National Rifle Association (NRA) from 1995 to 1998. As an influential NRA lobbyist from the 1970s through 2016, Hammer is credited with influencing many of Florida's gun laws including the 2005 Stand your ground law. The success of her pro-gun lobby impacted on similar laws across the United States.

NRA battles Florida Republicans over gun crackdown

The Florida debate will be closely watched beyond Tallahassee, as President Trump discusses various gun violence-related proposals.

The National Rifle Association, equipped with a vaunted political email list and support from passionate single-issue voters, is gearing up to take on Florida Gov. Rick Scott and GOP leaders as they tee up a rarity in Florida lawmaking: gun control legislation.

The central question for Republicans as the state’s legislative session enters its final weeks is whether the NRA, which opposes the GOP-written measures, will get rolled by a collection of lawmakers it helped get elected.

The Florida debate will be closely watched beyond Tallahassee, as President Donald Trump discusses various gun violence-related proposals, like arming teachers and raising the age to purchase weapons like the AR-15 from 18 to 21. The brewing fight was prompted by the Feb. 14 gunning down of 17 people at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the worst school shooting in Florida history, which prompted a wave of activism from the school’s students and put NRA-friendly Florida squarely in the middle of the national gun debate.

It’s an awkward spot for Scott and Republican leaders, who are now facing public pressure to push through proposals, unveiled last week, that could box in many of their own rank-and-file members in conservative districts chock full of NRA supporters, and in swing seats where every controversial vote matters.

-- enough money so they don't have to buy their own classroom supplies
-- enough money to put counselors and psychologists in every school
-- enough money to hire enough teachers to get classroom size down to 15-18 students per classroom
-- enough money to put new books in every classroom
-- enough books to fully stock school libraries
-- give us a minute and we'll come up with a few more ways to arm teachers.

The NRA is losing its grip — on reality and on politicians

...The student leaders remind us that the NRA’s opponents and to a large extent the media have been far too deferential to the NRA and too respectful of its disingenuous arguments. They grant the NRA’s arguments legitimacy — no matter how afactual or bizarre or off-point. They give LaPierre’s unfounded assertions the same status as a scientific study, personal life experience and elementary logic. That decorum and false equivalency have been exploited by not just the NRA but also the rest of the ethno-nationalist posse that now controls the GOP.

    1. The actual power the NRA has is an illusion. They don’t have the “votes” to have any impact. 1.3% is peanuts. They do have money, but there comes a point where no amount of money will move your agenda.

I think they’ve reached that point.

They are going to be told to put up or shut up and they won’t be able to put up the pressure in votes to coerce politicians. They won’t be scared of losing their re-elections because the NRA is against them. They’ll be afraid because they are with the NRA and *that* will lose them more votes.

I honestly think Trump thinks all this is just a game. He has no common sense and neither does his followers.

Gryphen needs to have a daily end to day with a short review of Gavel to Gavel. We got some spitfires asking "why the hell are we spending so much money"
on (fill in the blank). It was funny. Watch the ones who vote together to "keep things the same", as they squirmed when the new crew grills the motions before them. Pay Attention! ;)
