Today is Superbowl with an L and a couple of I's. I have no idea what that spells.

So today is indeed the Superbowl game of 2018.

Everybody is very, very excited.

Except of course me and probably a lot of the women.

If you are a wife this means of course that you have an increased chance of being the victim of domestic abuse, or at the very least will have to listen to your man yell at his TV like a freaking psychopath.

If you are a female who likes football then more power to you, I think you must have accidentally received my football lovers gene by mistake. Cause mine is missing.

If you have been a visitor here in the past then you likely know that I ONLY watch one football game a year, and this is it.

(This is no joke I only learned which teams were playing yesterday afternoon.)

I know very little about the teams, except that I fucking hate the Patriots and damn it this year they need to lose, and lose big!

I really mostly like the cool commercials and previews to upcoming movies which always premiere on Superbowl day.

And of course the best part may be that we do not have to listen to any Trump lies today.
Pansy ass!

I will update this post with tweets and perhaps a few of those cool commercials as the day progresses.

However be warned that today is also the only day that I drink beer and the effect that beer has on me is that it lowers my IQ and allows me to enjoy watching a bunch of grown ass men playing a children's game for obscene amounts of money.

That also means that my updates can be a little nonsensical and even odd.

Anyhow here is your open thread, do with it as you will.

Update: Maybe for their next Superbowl Tom Brady will not walk into the stadium like the biggest douchebag on the planet.

 I mean, seriously?

    A friend of ours has occasionally hosted SuperBowl parties where we gather, talk, eat, drink, talk, eat some more, and talk some more about anything other than football. Occasionally we would notice that the TV over in the corner was showing some kind of a football game. The only time it got interesting was one year when, toward the end of the game, a fistfight broke out among the players. "Ah!" I said. "Now the game makes sense!"

      Dumkotex is caring for Bristol's girls and his son Tripp.
      Can you imagine what he would do to Larry Nassar?

      Strange he doesn't care about the family members who were terrorized, beat and threatened by Track Palin. Had he cared, he would not keep the secrets and been part of endangering victims and future victims. If Dumkotex was a stand up man, or law and order, he would do the right thing.

      If Track was where he belongs that would prevent his attacks on his baby, girlfriend and family, including Todd Palin. Track is a scaredy cat and he ran away from all the dangers he saw. Dum protected no one. He only claims to protect and fix things. He is a total fraud, and he only goes on to become more of a fraud.

      Like all the Palin klan, Dum is complicit in the cover up and crimes.

    FB>fyi"The Senate voted Wednesday to change the lyrics of Canada’s national anthem to make it more gender neutral. As a result, Canadians did not riot, the economy did not falter and rivers did not reverse course.

    Given the resistance of a group of recalcitrant Conservative senators, observers might have anticipated any manner of dire consequences would befall the country after formally tweaking the second line of O Canada from “in all thy sons command” to “in all OF US command.”

    The legislation now needs only royal assent to become law but it took two years to reach this point after Liberal MP Mauril Belanger, suffering from ALS, introduced it as his dying wish. The House of Commons rightly passed the private member’s bill. That, in itself, stands as a momentous accomplishment seeing as how 12 similar bills over some 30 years all failed before it.

    But despite overwhelming approval from elected members of Parliament, the bill had languished in the upper chamber for 18 months, blocked by some senators who believe Parliament is wrong to tinker with an historic work of art. It took a controversial motion to shut down debate to finally get the bill passed.

    In fairness, many Canadians side with those senators who believe that changing the lyrics to the anthem disrespects tradition or panders to political correctness. The pro-preservation argument is undercut by the fact that “in all thy sons command” was itself a substitution for the original, clunky but gender neutral lyrics “thou dost in us command.” Others contend that even the changed lyrics “in all thy sons command” carry historical significance because they were added to recognize the Canadian men who fought in the First World War.

    But as the song was changed then, it can be changed again. It is not a museum relic set in hardened amber but a living symbol of the country that Canadians, including women and girls, sing and hear at sporting events and occasions of celebration and commemoration. Just as we adopted a new flag to reflect Canada’s emergence as a independent, post-colonial nation so must our anthem adapt to reflect us, as we are now.

    In the 110 years since O Canada was written, women have gained the right to vote and are thankfully no longer viewed as subordinates to men. The lyrics “in all of us command” encapsulate our national values of inclusiveness and equality. There is no longer any reason why O Canada should exclude half the population.

    It’s time our anthem caught up with the country."

      Delete
    2. Seems to me it would have flowed better sung as "you do in us command." It's a better update of the original lyrics.

      O Canada!
      Our home and native land!
      True patriot love in all of us command.
      With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
      The True North strong and free!
      From far and wide,
      O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
      God keep our land glorious and free!
      O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
      O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

      I think the Conservatives can rest easy that the politically correct liberals at least left "God" alone.

      When our local Old Globe Theater did an updated version of Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor (Canada) we heard the cast sing "Oh, Canada" at the beginning of every show. After a while we would all sing along. I used to know the lyrics by heart, but not any more.

      Perhaps I should brush up in case Trump nukes North Korea and I need to repatriate quickly.

  23. Just another example of our degraded education system. I learned Roman Numerals in elementary school.

    I = 1
    V= 5
    X=10
    L = 50
    C= 100
    M=1000

    You never put more than three in a row. After three in a row you have to subtract. If you put an I before a symbol you take away 1 so 4 is IV and 9 is IX.

    I=1
    II=2
    III-3
    IV=4
    V=5
    VI=6
    VII=7
    VIII=8
    IX=9
    X=10

    XXX=30
    XL = 40
    XC=90

    This year it's MMXVIII. Next year is MMXIX.

    I was born in MXMLIV.

    They used to use Roman numerals for movies for the year the movie was made or released. It used to be fun to try to figure it out before it scrolled by. They don't do that any more.

    It's like penmanship. A lost art.

    I do not watch any organized team sports as they remind me too much of political parties and voters who will vote against their own best interests like fans that will cheer a no-talent, inept, losing team and deny talent and skill in another.

    Today is the PUPPY BOWL. Although it has gone down hill considerably since Animal Planet first instituted it. There are many knockoffs now, like Hallmark doing the same thing with Kittens.

      But I'm curious Gryph, as to "I know very little about the teams, except that I fucking hate the Patriots and damn it this year they need to lose, and lose big!"

      I'm just curious as to your animosity. There is no denying that the Patriots have developed a coaching staff and team and frankly, almost not even arguably, melded one of the greatest quarter backs ever. I get everyone hates him for his pretty boy-ness and whatever. But the dude is 40 years old and probably still the best QB out there, at least for the Patriots type program. (Rogers with GB is a perfect fit too, almost too good, sucks he got injured).

      But really why the hate? Their success is definitely due to running a stellar organizational program from top to bottom. Is there something wrong with that?

      Delete
    3. Weren’t the Patriots involved in a cheating scandal involving the underinflation of footballs?

      Gee, I have no interest in sports whatsoever but even I recognize the name Patriots and remember why people hate them. Deflategate. I believe it was Tom Brady that perpetrated the deed so that explains the animosity towards him personally.

      Given their history, one can question how much of that success is due to running a stellar organization and how much to unsportsmanlike behavior and cheating for which they did not get caught.

      9:28, I do not hate Tom Brady because of his pretty-boy ness; I hate him because he is a cheater and a lier, and he was sneering and condescending during the investigation.

      Same with his coach; they lie and cheat, so who knows how good they really are?

      Other teams didn’t film steal play calls for opposing teams.

      Patriots suck for those reasons and I’m glad they lost.

    Im from Philly, but out of town this weekend!!! Still watched the game. The Eagles are Jesus freaks. Not sure when or how that happened... but whatevs. I am so glad we beat the cheats. It was a nailbiter because ghe defense didnt play their best.
    I dont like football. Barbaric and waaay too politicized. However, we dont have much to distract ourselves with these days and the city was united for a while around the team.
    Brady said it sucks that he lost.
    Not for America you cheater!

    He looks like a douche in that photo. But his wife is a super model. I'm guessing she has some influence in how he dresses.

    Glad the Eagles won.

    I find I can get through a month's worth of housecleaning during the stoppages. And there's so little action that it's hard to miss anything.

    But this year I was a bit discombobulated because I didn't feel hungry for anything. Normally the best part about the super bowl is the pigging out part.

    Now I'm hearing about terrible behavior by fans in Philly, which is really a great city- but when the game was won I was really struck by the genuine affection of the Eagles players towards their team mates and their officials.

    For myself, that last touchdown sealed it, I was never in any doubt after that- because that touchdown would have filled the Eagles players with so much adrenaline that nobody could have beaten them. Those last few minutes were a waste of time.

    And go suck it, Maga Hat Brady, Trump Pal Belichick and Million Dollar Donor Kraft. A good man doesn't have bad politics.

    We did not watch the Super Bowl. We're not football fans. I know my family is glad that the Eagles won because they live in Philadelphia. So I'm pleased about the outcome.

    We did watch the Puppybowl. How cute and positively weird.

    What was with using a MLK semon in an ad for Dodge RAM’s? Dr. King’s kids are nothing but greedy. Sad.

      '"It is 50 years to the day that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave such a tremendous speech about the value of service. Ram was honored to have the privilege of working with the Estate of Martin Luther King Jr. to celebrate those words during the largest TV viewing event annually," the company stated. "We worked closely with the representatives of the Martin Luther King Jr. estate to receive the necessary approvals and estate representatives were a very important part of the creative process every step of the way."'

      "Neither @TheKingCenter nor @BerniceKing is the entity that approves the use of #MLK’s words or imagery for use in merchandise, entertainment (movies, music, artwork, etc) or advertisement, including tonight’s
      @Dodge #SuperBowl commercial."

      "Ram is not the first automaker to incorporate Reverend King in an ad. General Motors in 2006 used him, along with images of Muhammad Ali and others in a spot for its Chevy Silverado. Mercedes-Benz also used footage of King in a 2010 ad."

      "Using a civil rights hero to sell cars in a Super Bowl commercial may seem absurd on its face, but it’s particularly ridiculous when said civil rights icon actually spoke out against car commercials."

    "In her book Raising Trump released late last year, Ivana Trump wrote that her ex-husband Donald Trump thought Brady would be a good match for their daughter.

    "At one point, Donald wanted her to date Tom Brady, the quarterback," the book states. "He said, 'You have to meet him!' But Ivanka wasn't into it.""
