Yet another school shooting, this time in Florida, which left at least 17 dead. It just never stops.

That is footage from inside a classroom in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

These are sombody's babies hiding behind desks and screaming in terror as they listen to their schoolmates being slaughtered right outside their room.

Courtesy of NBC News:

At least 17 people were killed when a teen opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle at a high school in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Fourteen others were wounded, five of whom suffering life-threatening injuries, hospital officials said.

Authorities said the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, concealed himself in the crowd fleeing Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He was arrested in nearby Coral Springs and later charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.

Cruz had recently been expelled from Douglas for disciplinary reasons and was enrolled elsewhere in the district, Broward County schools Superintendent Robert Runcie said. He took an Uber to campus on Wednesday, Runcie told NBC News.

The gunman was believed to have been armed with an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle and multiple magazines, said Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel. It was unclear whether he had any other weapons, Israel said.

It's always an AR-15 in these school shootings, isn't it?

That seems to be the weapon of choice for those who want to gun down innocent children in a school.

This is the eighteenth school shooting this year, and it is only February!

As was pointed out earlier THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN AMERICA.

We are the only place in the world where this happens with any kind of frequency, if at all.

And yet we refuse to do what is clearly necessary to stop all of this, and protect our citizens.

We cannot EVER call ourselves the greatest nation on earth if we cannot even protect our children while they are in school. Period!

Screw Donald Trump. He is absolutely the worst leader any country could have! He does not represent Americans!

Gun bans need to be put in force - especially the specific gun that has been used numerous times to kill all these kids.

      I'm ashamed of our country!

    2. I sat on a triple murder case jury. The killer - who was retaliating because his life long friends, had teased him about his hair cut - used an AR15 to shoot into a car with a mom, dad and their three year old. The three year old's body was blown into several pieces as was his car seat. The bullets were a special military issue that make a grown man's body look like it's been through a shredder. The toddler didn't look human, the car was in pieces. Hundreds of bullets shot within seconds into a family's parked car because of teasing over a hair cut.

    3. About the AR-15.

First, you need to realize that war has it's own calculus. The normal rules don't apply. Military weapons are designed to kill and destroy, effectively, efficiently.

The AR-15 fires a very small bullet at very high speed. Here's a lengthy quote from a good article:

      -- quote

A bullet with more energy can do more damage. Its total kinetic energy is equal to one-half the mass of the bullet times its velocity squared. The bullet from a handgun is—as absurd as it may sound—slow compared to that from an AR-15. It can be stopped by the thick bone of the upper leg. It might pass through the body, only to become lodged in skin, which is surprisingly elastic.

The bullet from an AR-15 does an entirely different kind of violence to the human body. It’s relatively small, but it leaves the muzzle at three times the speed of a handgun bullet. It has so much energy that it can disintegrate three inches of leg bone. “It would just turn it to dust,” says Donald Jenkins, a trauma surgeon at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. If it hits the liver, “the liver looks like a jello mold that’s been dropped on the floor.” And the exit wound can be a nasty, jagged hole the size of an orange.

These high-velocity bullets can damage flesh inches away from their path, either because they fragment or because they cause something called cavitation. When you trail your fingers through water, the water ripples and curls. When a high-velocity bullet pierces the body, human tissues ripples as well—but much more violently. The bullet from an AR-15 might miss the femoral artery in the leg, but cavitation may burst the artery anyway, causing death by blood loss. A swath of stretched and torn tissue around the wound may die. That’s why, says Rhee, a handgun wound might require only one surgery but an AR-15 bullet wound might require three to ten.

Then, multiply the damage from a single bullet by the ease of shooting an AR-15, which doesn’t kick. “The gun barely moves. You can sit there boom boom boom and reel off shots as fast as you can move your finger,” says Ernest Moore, a trauma surgeon at Denver Health and editor of the Journal of Trauma and Acute Surgery, which just published an issue dedicated to gun violence.

      -- end quote

There is no reason for anyone other than military or cops to own these weapons. I hunt, shoot, and own enough guns to fill two gun cases. Yes, I own an AR-15 -- because it belonged to a nephew who was convicted of a felony, lost his gun rights, and I "inherited" his AR-15. The AR-15 has no use in hunting. Magazines that hold 10, 20,30 rounds have no place in hunting. My hunting rifles hold 4 or 5 rounds and I usually load only three -- if you miss a deer on the first shot, the critter rarely stands around giving you another shot.

We should -- but we will not -- start a buyback program: Turn in your AR-15 to local cops, receive a check for $250, by a deadline. After the deadline, anyone found with an AR-15 goes to jail. Good idea but will never happen.

I'm taking my nephew's AR-15 out to the far end of my property today, smack it a couple of times with a sledge, then pour diesel on it and burn it.

      Delete
    4. Not only that, but that high velocity makes hitting your target easier, plus you have greater accuracy at a distance.

Civilians should not be allowed to own military grade weapons, armor or ammunition. Period.

You want to hunt? Fine. There are plenty of hunting weapons available designed to do a good job whether you are are hunting elk, ducks or rabbits.

But hand guns and military assault rifles are designed for hunting PEOPLE.

Obviously these Republicans have no brains so their "thoughts" are empty and there is no God or their prayers would have been answered in the ballot box by losses to their more sane opponents.

If there was a God, Dullard Drumpf would have had a coronary a long time ago.

      Old Redneck
It is easy for you to say "There is no reason for anyone other than military or cops to own these weapons." You were in the military and you don't want an AR-15. That is fine for you. Other former military and cops do want to own or collect AR-15. You would deprive them of the freedom to legally own guns meant to kill humans? How can sportsmen practice their sniper manuevors? These men believe there will be a civil war and complete chaos. They want to be able to save and protect their families. They need the weapons to do that.

      Delete
    7. ANONYMOUS 12:01

Practice their sniper maneuvers? Seriously? That's your justification?

Seriously? That's your excuse? You think these civilians need to protect their families from civil war? They are the ones that will be participating in that civil war. They'll be starting it.

We have professionals whose job it is to protect us. We have local police, sheriff's departments, state and national guard and five branches of the federal military organizations (don't forget the Coast Guard.) If we need protecting from a civil war, our professionals will do so. If they are reservists, they will be called up and if they need a weapon one will be provided by our government. That is what we pay taxes for.

What we don't need is some fat, flaccid 'bagger with delusions of Rambo and an arsenal plotting with his survivalist Nazi friends to "take back" the country.

      Your argument is NRA BULLSHIT.

That says the local and state politicians must clean up the blood, guts and brains left at the shooting scene.

Maybe after doing that a few times they will be willing to vote for sensible guns laws.

Are you suggesting that anyone with a diagnosed mental illness be, say, tattooed so that gun sellers can more easily identify them? Maybe require everyone, when they renew their driver's license, to prove they are NOT mentally ill? What about right to privacy? HIPPA? What if the mental illness is classified as benign? How about we stop with the weapons, the wall, the immigrants, and start making residential facilities for youth at risk? Subsidize it, so parents without resources can still get help for their out of control kids? My personal favorite is a similar program for adults BEFORE they pop out their little mini-mes.

Roughly 1 in 4 people have some form of mental illness. Think about it next time you're in a crowded elevator.

    1. You don't have to be anti-Second Amendment to want sane gun regulations.

Crazy people should not be allowed to own guns. So you need to restrict what kind of guns are available to the public and how they can access them. It's a free for all. That gun show loophole is the biggest blatant farce there is. Or Craigslist. If you're mentally ill, just buy a gun off of Craigslist. No problem. No oversight. No regulation.

Then there's the type of gun. No one hunts deer with an AR-15. Not if they are a real hunter. Real men hunt with a real hunting rifle and they only need ONE SHOT. They don't need a high capacity magazine and a bump stock. Most hunters hunt for meat, not hamburger.

Restricting ammunition isn't even a Second Amendment issue. No one needs armor piercing bullets. No one needs a stockpile of ammo that would support the overthrow of a third world country.

The NRA needs to be stopped. If it means labeling them a domestic terrorist organization then so be it. They have left their roots as responsible hunters and are now promoting the overthrow of our country.

      Lock 'em up.

I think Dumbkota is just working for the Russians, like many others. He may not even know the extent of working for them. That is why I like to keep an eye on him. He is definitely an agent of some kind, a subversive and he is well paid. He has a great cover.

Things are not going to change unless some good guys with AR-15s start taking out CEOs of the gun manufacturers, Wayne LaPierre, and the politicicans they have bought and paid for.

I wonder if he or his friends (AIP, bailed him out of jail) have figured out how to get his ankle lock off yet. The law in Alaska may have given him a cheap one that is easy to escape. It is Alaska after all. Can't make things to rough on Sarah's combat warrior kid. He got hurt fighting for American's freedoms. Obama messed up helping him or he would be normal already.

NRA donations to Republican campaigns? $6,000,000
NRA donations to Democratic campaigns? $100,000

We know who to blame. We know who is responsible for blocking any sane revision to regulations regarding firearms in this country. It is the REPUBLICAN PARTY. They are whores for the NRA.

If you think back, it is when citizen united rigged the supreme court to allow corporations to donate to politics. Then flooding the country with unregistered, untraceable unaccountable for assault weapons.
Law enforcement should remove all assault weapons from society. And all guns registered and traceable.
