A Facebook post by a comic book store owner reminds us that these parkland kids may be brave on the outside, but on the inside they are shattered and barely holding it together.

We keep expecting these kids to save the country, but who is making sure that they will be saved as well?

They have gone from one terrifying reality involving gun violence, to another terrifying reality involving being thrust onto the national stage.

At some point they need the time to heal.

Hopefully that time will come before the wounds become too deep, and the wounds become too forever.

As much as politicians and Fox News yell, “sit down and shut up,” I can’t help but think their speaking out is very much part of the healing process. I was so proud of them this weekend, and the Obamas’ message to them!

Very brave young people who are standing up because they saw up close what uncontrolled proliferation of guns does and they decided that enough is enough.

The poster is right. Even if they appear very strong and determined, which they are, they're also just kids, they're grieving, they're hurting and they need time and support to come to terms with what happened. I do hope that they see and feel that the majority of the population is behind them and is proud of them.

These kids are doing exactly as they should. They lost classmates. They feel for the kids from other shootings that have lost classmates. They are the next generations of voters that do not want the issue of guns and violence in their life. And We the people, the boomers and other generations will give them strength, encouragement, and guidance. We will force the democratic leaders to speak and act for majority or VOTE THEM OUT.

OT:"mining tycoon Don Blankenship is running for the U.S. Senate in West Virginia, despite the fact that he was sent to jail in 2016 for his culpability in the deaths of 29 miners who worked for him.

Even though some Republican Party operatives are nervous about the prospects of running a man whose violations of mine safety laws left him legally liable for the deaths of 29 men in a 2010 mine explosion"Rev. Becky Deitch, chairwoman of the Brooke County GOP in West Virginia, tells the publication that Blankenship’s past sins aren’t any worse than those of other politicians.

“Most of us should be in jail for the things we do,” she said. “We just haven’t been caught. No one’s gone after us.”

    1. His Democratic opponent should use those mine deaths against him. Because Republicans would do the same if reality were switched.

Piss on go high. This is win at any cost because that is how Republicans operate. No more holier than thou Mr. nice guy. Time to learn to sling mud with the big boys. Why? Just read what the "REVEREND" Deitch said! Is it any wonder they support and protect the vileness that is Donald JUDAS Trump?

"Few politicians have bound themselves more tightly to the fortunes of coal miners than West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice.

Alongside his son, James Justice III, Justice owns a coal empire spanning dozens of mining companies across Appalachia. Under his watch, employment at those companies has plummeted. At the same time, he has exploited a regulatory loophole that allows him to leave mines idle and defer environmental cleanup, a Climate Home News investigation has found.

In Virginia, only one of Justice’s approximately 20 mines still produces coal. Instead of closing the operations and restoring the land, his companies often place their mines into “temporary cessation.”

Under this status, regulators allow miners to pause both production and land reclamation. Temporary cessation is meant to be a short-term response to low coal prices; it must be re-approved every six months.

Records CHN has compiled show coal mines belonging to Justice have been idle for years at a time. Unreclaimed, idle mines mean ongoing pollution and community health impacts, while miners are put out of work indefinitely. The practice is not illegal, nor is it confined to Justice companies. Many companies, particularly in central Appalachia, using temporary cessation for extended periods."

"We keep expecting these kids to save the country" ??

Who expects these kids to save the country and from what? They had a tragedy happen and have to deal with it personally.

"They have gone from one terrifying reality involving gun violence, to another terrifying reality involving being thrust onto the national stage."

Uhhhh, due to left wing media and left wing money. They are being used. Used used used.

That is an incredibly stupid and misguided comment. And so what if it is left-wing media and money. I think FOXNews supports the conservative side probably more so. Grow up

You honestly think these kids need left wing money to use their voices and be heard? Have you listened to ANYTHING they've said? Get real, troll.

these wonderful kids are doing this by CHOICE. no one is forcing them. the grown ups around them aren't doing shit, so they are stepping in. by choice. maybe seeing a friend or a beloved teacher saving you die can bring you to do something real. maybe you should grow up.

"It's the march of the know nothings.
They have a lot of emotion but they had very little intelligence. Everything is phrases and -- so I would like Pat to comment.

"I was in the teachings in Washington University in 1965, and when I went out there, the people, the young people questioned me. They knew the history of Vietnam back with the French and before then, what we were doing,
the agreements in Geneva -- they knew everything.

They were extremely intelligent. Later on after Kent State, I went out and spoke at Kent State, and they were just emotional. And I would agree with him about yesterday.

Maybe it's the film that was taken out, but the kids seemed full of passion and emotion, and caught up, and not a great deal of thought, frankly.
And I can understand the passion in the immediate aftermath of that killing down there in Broward County. But that's what you've got, so much passion as though you can, you know, wave a MAGIC WAND and and put an end to these school killings, and we can't do it."<C&L

Interesting. Given the 21st century GOP 's adulation of Vlad. Putin, I don't think King has any right to chastise Emma Gonzalez.

  10. One of the most painful after effects of experience a violent physical attack which last for a life time.... (by a stranger at the wrong address - mine) is the fact no one wants you talk about it after their curiosity is sated. "Just let it go. Get over it."

For a large chunk of money, a shrink will let you talk about it but there's not always the ability to afford that luxury for a few years. After the first few months, my shrink wanted to middle eastern travel advice. etc -- which I was paying him to give.

While it may appear the kids are dealing with the harshness from being in the public....it is a of emotional benefit to be able to talk about what they experienced and feel because they feel what they are every day, not just when someone is curious.

Jim Wright Excerpts FB On guns.>
"Literally tens of thousands of people -- maybe hundreds of thousands at this point -- pro-gun, anti-gun, have swarmed my feed. According to Twitter Analytics, 40 MILLION people have viewed my various comments over the last 28 days."
"Y. The NRA shit its pants when children, brilliant, articulate, well spoken, took to the stage and shouted down these lunatics with confidence and humor and boundless courage. The NRA and their lackeys in government were utterly terrified by those kids, by the future that is coming for them, relentlessly, inevitably, and unstoppable."
" Those kids out there, they're tired of your bullshit and your insanity and your threats, and they're coming for you.
First they're going to vote, then they're going to hold office, then they're going to pass laws, and you, you sons of bitches, well, you're on the wrong side of history and it's nobody's fault but yours."
"I've attached a small sample of the various responses, including two from former US Army Colonel turned right-wing gun-humping lunatic Kurt Schlichter -- who recently penned an article for Townhall where he talks at length about killing liberals, and offers advice on how to go about murdering large numbers of Americans wholesale.

You can read Schlichter's article here:

…. Just in case you thought I was engaged in hyperbole."

Would you give up your guns to save your kids, yes or NO?

    It's a simple question."
" they called me every insult in the book, commie, pussy, fag, Nazi, Soy Boy, cuck, beta, libtard, and not one --
NOT a single ONE -- would give up their precious guns to save their own kids."

I think the right-wing attacks on the Parkland student activists is a measure of their fear of the students' success. As the NRA and the right get nastier we can assume that the students' crusade for gun control is making more and more inroads. Hurray for the young people who are not afraid to voice their demand for gun control in this country!

no child should have to grow up in a matter of minutes. these kids should be thinking of prom, of comix, of giggling with friends on their phones. they should be kids, and that was taking away with them as well as their friends. my heart bleeds for them.
