A 13-year-old girl has died after authorities say she was shot Saturday by her 9-year-old brother, local media reported.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said the girl would not give up a video game controller when her brother wanted it.
Cantrell said she was shot in the back of the head, and that the bullet went through her brain. The girl was rushed to Le Bonheur's Children's Hospital in Memphis. Cantrell said late Sunday that she died of her injuries, WLOV-TV and other media reported.
Authorities don't yet know how the child had access to the weapon they say he used to shoot his sister.
It's also unclear how much knowledge the boy had of the dangers of guns.
Well he knew enough to point and shoot, and that is what makes guns so fucking dangerous.
This cannot be blamed on video games, or violent television shows, this happened because somebody in these children's lives did not understand the concept of gun safety and did not put this weapon in a secure location where the children could not access it.
So once again the gun that was purchased to keep people safe, ended up taking another innocent life.
I would love to see a study of the parents’ views on guns a few years after a tragedy such as this occurs, to see if their opinion has changed.

What do you want to bet he'll be dismissed as mentally unstable. Not a domestic terrorist. Not a hate crime. Not a white supremacist or nationalist. And most importantly of all, not a Trump Supporter.
I'm sure they'll be claiming he's a liberal Democrat that voted for Hillary before his name is even released to the press.
Then there will be a lot of snarky posts referring to the NRA and banning guns.
Authorities knew how he got control of the weapon--the parents negligently left a loaded gun where a child could easily get hold of it. The parents are guilty of negligent homicide.

DeleteHe'll be asking where his sister is at anytime. In a video game everybody gets up and starts the game over. Criminally negligent parents. But they will only be tried if they are brown or black. Like I say over and over---there is no justice for white children who have been shot in their own homes.

DeleteHe's a fourth grader. I've worked with fourth graders. They know what death is. They understand death. They know when someone is shot and killed they don't get up again like on TV. He also are aware of consequences for their actions.
What they don't have is the ability to discipline their impulses. They don't stop and think of the consequences of their actions. This is why they know the punishment but it doesn't stop them from doing whatever they were going to do.
This kid probably had anger issues. Perhaps temper tantrums. No self control.
Well I guess she won't be hogging the game controller anymore.
