Paul Manafort pleads not guilty of conspiracy, tax and bank fraud charges. Stumbles away wearing two ankle monitors.

Courtesy of NPR:

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, tax and bank fraud charges in an Alexandria, Va., federal courtroom Thursday afternoon.

Judge T.S. Ellis set a trial date for July 10.

Manafort faces a separate federal trial on Sept. 17 on other charges also brought by special counsel Robert Mueller's office in a Washington, D.C., case.

For the Virginia case, Manafort will be fitted with a second electronic monitoring bracelet (he is already wearing one related to the D.C. case) and will be allowed to meet with lawyers, attend church services and make emergency medical trips as needed.

Two, count them TWO, ankle monitors.

I guess that is in case Manafort goes all feral coyote and chews off one of his legs.

The prosecution has between 20 to 25 witnesses ready to testify against Manafort, not to mention all of that evidence that the Mueller team was able to dig up.

I think if you look up the word "fucked" right now there is a picture of Paul Manafort right next to it.

Manafort thinks that if he gets a jury trial that there will be at least one Trump fan who will look the other way. The problem with that theory being Trump fans are not Manafort fans, and he's not very likable. If anything they'll blame him for Trump's troubles.

look up the word Pardon and you will see the whole trump clan, manafort and the rest of the gang - even if trump can't pardon himself - he can pardon pence - and when pence steps into the white house he can pardon trump and everyone else trump may have had to leave out or didn't get to quick enough -- only hope is after this hopefully no more then 4 years (but may be 8) of trump - the state charges will be kick in for trump and family (not sure what the statute of limitations is though) - hopefully Manafort will get brought up on state charges as well but for now I think he figures he will just be pardoned and then take off for some island some where U.S. law can't touch him

You can't pardon someone for treason.

Yes the president can pardon treason
Plus no one is being accused of treason - so not on trial for treason and therefore won't be convicted of treason

"Pardon power is nearly unlimited — hypothetically one cannot pardon one’s self, though to my knowledge that has never been tested. Treason is one offense that has been pardoned historically, at Presidential discretion. Washington pardoned the leaders of the Whiskey Rebellion, while Johnson granted a general pardon for treason to the Confederates.

Presidential impeachment would be one logical limit, as the pardon would mean that the (former) President had not been removed, meaning that the (new) President was not in office to pardon.

Taking the hypothetical situation where a President were impeached for treason and convicted by the Senate, removing him from office: the new President could pardon the former President in advance of prosecution (see Ford’s pardon of Nixon), though (presumably) not for the impeachment itself."

I had to look that up 10:19 but, yes, the president can pardon for treason. George Washington pardoned 2 men from the whiskey rebellion after having been sentenced to death for treason. And Ford pardoned Tokyo Rose from WWII fame. I actually didn’t know Tokyo Rose was a US citizen until I looked that up.

    4. I believe Trump can pardon for Federal crimes but not for state crimes. That's where Mueller is getting them.

trump may not be in the pardoning mood, since manafort probably ratted him out.

His crimes weren’t alcohol related, though. Why would they need to monitor his intake? Or is that standard operating procedure?

  5. From the article: Two, count them TWO, ankle monitors.

I believe that's because the two jurisdictions have incompatible monitoring protocols.

None of them are losing one wink of sleep over this - pardons will handed down all around

"President Donald Trump has the absolute Constitutional power to pardon any of his family, advisers, campaign staff, former and current appointees, and former business associates (including at Trump corporations), regardless of how controversial doing so might be.

There is precedent, surprisingly, for doing so. President Gerald Ford did exactly that in 1974 with Proclamation 4311, pardoning then former President Richard Nixon before Nixon faced any formal charges.

Ford wrote in the proclamation that the controversial pardon was to prevent the loss of the “tranquility [of the] nation” should Nixon be brought to trial after a highly public inquiry. The pardon was in full and absolute for all offenses which Nixon “has committed or may have committed or taken part in.” Because Ford granted the pardon before any criminal prosecution of Nixon, it precluded the possibility of an indictment.

The substantive law as to the President’s power is clear. Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution confers pardon authority on the President for violations of federal law (not state laws) stating that the President has the “power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the U.S., except in cases of impeachment.”"

    1. And the nation hated Ford for it.

His approvals almost as low a Trump's.

Also, the president can pardon Federal crimes but not state crimes. What are the odds that Manafort will get a pardon from the Governor of Virginia as well?

Oregon church leaders told rape victim she was to blame because she wore a tank top in front of pastor

...The church cited sexual immorality as the reason for Engelking’s resignation in January, but the women told the newspaper the pastor and three other men had sexually assaulted and raped them for more than 20 years — and as recently as 2010.

They said church leaders, including Senior Pastor Scott Nelson, covered up the abuse and forced them into silence through patriarchal pressure.

One woman, who was in her 30s at the time, said a church leader blamed her for her own rape because she had been flirting and wearing a tank top.

‘He doesn’t give a f*ck’: Trump plans to oust Kelly, Ivanka and Jared — and then go ‘Full MAGA’

A new report from Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman claims that President Donald Trump is about to perform a massive housecleaning at the Oval Office that will bring down chief of staff John Kelly and national security adviser H.R. McMaster — before eventually consuming Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner as well.

According to Sherman’s sources, Trump’s recent defiance of his top economic advisers over steel tariffs show that he is no longer afraid of doing things that anger Republican Party leaders — an approach that Sherman describes as going “full MAGA.”

“He knows how the levers of power work,” one Republican told Sherman. “He doesn’t give a f*ck.”

A Trump friend similarly told Sherman that Trump’s decision to enact tariffs were his way of giving a middle finger to both outgoing economic adviser Gary Cohn and to chief of staff Kelly.

“It was like a f*ck-you to Kelly,” the source said. “Trump is red-hot about Kelly trying to control him.”

Sherman’s sources said they expected McMaster and Kelly to soon be out of jobs — and one source said the president will interview candidates for both men’s jobs next weekend at Mar-a-Lago.

As for Jared and Ivanka, Sherman’s sources said Trump hopes to give them a “soft landing” outside the White House, perhaps by putting them to work on his 2020 reelection campaign.

    1. He's deluded. He thinks since no one has done anything about his excesses and violations to date that he is untouchable. He really is insane.

If I were the Republicans, I'd write off the 2018 elections and let the Democrats take everything for two years. Let them impeach Trump, thus downplaying the GOP's hand in it all. Then they can concentrate on getting everything back in 2020, running Pence as their candidate and taking back both houses and it all starts all over again.
