Country singer suggests that if she were not Canadian she would have voted for Donald Trump. That does not go over well.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

If she had been able to vote in the US election, she would have plumped for Donald Trump, she says. “I would have voted for him because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?”

This comes from a rather long article all about Shania Twain's career, throat operation, the end of her marriage, etc.

However it was that statement up above that caught the attention of the internet.

And then all hell broke loose.

By the end of the day Twain was walking that remark back as quickly as she could.
I am not going to pile on with everybody else, mostly because Shania Twain was one of the few country artists who did not make me want to shove red hot pokers into my eardrums.

Having said that I just want to add that after reading her  ridiculous statement my response is "That Don't Impress me Much."

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

The takeaway from this is that Donald Trump is without a doubt the most divisive person in the country, and ANYBODY, including once huge stars who made country music palatable, who suggests that they either did or would have supported him should be aware that people will react in a very emotional manner.

Fuck Shania Twain. She's just another vapid, poorly educated white person who thinks all other white people are as bigoted & close minded as she is, only to be shocked when she finds out they're not.

Looks like from her twitter apologies Shania is learning about the law of unintended consequences the hard way. She's lost herself a lot of fans...including myself. I once thought of her as an intelligent, caring person. Boy, was I wrong.

Agreed. She can walk back her original comment all she wants and pretend that she was confused by the question but her true feelings about Trump rang loud & clear. Not buying what she's selling.

I'm sure her popularity and 'sales' are going to drop substantially now and in the future. What a stupid woman! She goofed big time in supporting The Donald!

I believe the words "country" and "music" should never be used in the same sentence.

$O NOW>"she thinks of herself today as Eilleen or Shania. “Both. But when I speak to myself I say Eilleen: ‘Come on, Eilleen!’” Eilleen seems very different from Shania, I say. No, she insists, they are one and the same person – Shania is just the professional front. Actually, Twain concedes, there is a difference. Eilleen was a tomboy; possibly still is.
She did not wear heels until she was in her 20s and she used to strap down her bOObs so nobody would notice them. “I never got to the point where I would wear a bathing suit on the beach. I was always very, very shy of my body.”
Is Eilleen as confident with men as Shania?
“I was always very agreeable, always out to please my partner.” See, I say, Shania would be the one demanding to be pleased – she would WAG her finger and say:
“That don’t impress me much!” She laughs and agrees.
“I’m a quiet person. I do like solitude. When I was a teenager, I was energetic, but annoyingly energetic. People called me ‘SPAZ'.
It wasn’t a compliment. It was a little bit hurtful.”

  11. Back in the day, Shania was mine from her first video I saw on CMT.

She actual thought Drumpf was honest? I know numerous country stars line up behind stoopid fucking wingnut pols just because and that is about as deep as their looks into policy goes.

This girl lost me with all her songs about how happy and permanent her marriage was. She was hot and I should be ashamed to say that was my main attraction to her.

So bullying and name calling us being "honest".

her first answer was how she really feels, her long winded "apology" was a PR stunt to save fans.

If she had "limited understanding " her response should have been no comment or i am Canadian and don't have an opinion on the matter.

    COAL Country!
"Don Blankenship is the latest in a trend of Republicans who have one thing in common — Trump loyalty"
"lankenship sounds a lot like Roy Moore. Like Moore, Blankenship has a controversial past that could render him unelectable in a general contest, despite the appeal of his red meat right-wing rhetoric to the Republican Party base. With Moore, it was the multiple accusations of sexual misconduct levied against him by women who were underage at the time. With Blankenship, it was his role in the deaths of 29 innocent people due to his own greed.
Blankenship, like Moore, could also snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the Republican-controlled Senate. Moore ran in deep red Alabama for a seat that became available after Sen. Jeff Sessions left to become attorney general under Trump. Blankenship, by contrast, is running for a seat currently held by someone widely regarded as one of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate — and one of the most vulnerable — and West Virginia is a strongly Republican state that went heavily to Trump in 2016."

OT: This is yet another example of Trumplethinskin trolling protesters. He did it during the Women's March, and he's doing it here:

(They had voices of protest silenced and cheesy patriotic music played over the video - very Orwellian)

(from one of the protestors Tweets to Trumplethinskin; 'To be clear, everyone standing there was yelling in protest as you drove by. The local news had to mute out what they were saying. Facts and truth matter....')

    https://www.rawstory.com/2018/04/key-west-greets-trump-collective-middle-finger/

BTW, I believe he also trolled the funeral goers at Barbara Bush's funeral even though he in truth was too chickenshit to face all the people he'd twitterbullied previously:

'Trump today tweeted he was interrupting his golf game to go watch the funeral of former First Lady Barbara Bush, and declaring it a “beautiful day!”'

He left out the part that they were all protestors.

  25. Let's not describe Shania Twain as a "country music singer." She may be a singer but she does not sing country music.

Loretta Lynn is a country Music singer. So is Patsy Cline. And Kitty Wells. And Dottsy. Maybelle, Sarah, and June Carter, too.

    But NOT Shaina Twain.

There has been no country music written or performed for at least 20 years.

Twain suffers from bi-polar disorder and has had ongoing struggles for her entire life. Her upbringing was very "unconventional" and she makes and sings redneck music. Who would you think she would vote for?

Why again would anyone even ask her this question, isn't she kind of like early 90's? Who knew she was even still around.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous10:30 AM

When I first read her comments, I found them ambiguous and preferred to think she meant “if I could have voted in the American election I would have voted for Trump too because he sure pulled the wool over a lot of eyes, including mine. That was a life lesson for me!” But her somewhat garbled explanation doesn’t support that interpretation. She’s dead (from the neck up) to me now.

Then she went country/pop, like most of today's performers looking for a crossover audience.
