FBI raids Donald Trump's lawyer, Michael, Cohen's, office.

Wait, where are they?
Courtesy of the New York Times:

The F.B.I. on Monday raided the office of President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, seizing records related to several topics including payments to a pornographic-film actress.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan obtained the search warrant after receiving a referral from the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, according to Mr. Cohen’s lawyer, who called the search “completely inappropriate and unnecessary.” The search does not appear to be directly related to Mr. Mueller’s investigation, but likely resulted from information he had uncovered and gave to prosecutors in New York.

“Today the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients,” said Stephen Ryan, his lawyer. “I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller.”

Mr. Cohen plays a role in aspects of the special counsel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. He also recently said he paid $130,000 to a pornographic-film actress, Stephanie Clifford, who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump. Ms. Clifford is known as Stormy Daniels.

Here is more from NBC News:

The FBI on Monday raided the office of Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, seeking information about a $130,000 payment the attorney made to porn star Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 election, sources said.

Several law enforcement officials confirmed the search of Cohen's office was not the work of Mueller's prosecutors. It involves a matter that the Mueller team came across, concluded did not fall under their mandate and passed on to the U.S. Attorney's office in New York.

Legal sources familiar with the nature of the search said it involved the $130,000 payment to Daniels, who alleges that she had an affair with Trump. The sources did not say whether it might have also involved other matters.

So the Mueller team found some incriminating information about this payoff to Stormy Daniels during their investigation of Trump and his associates, decided it did not fit comfortably with the focus of their investigation so they handed it off to the New York Attorney General, who was convinced that the evidence was sufficiently concerning enough to get a warrant to raid Cohen's office.

And that is not all. According to Vanity Fair the FBI also raided Cohen's hotel room.

And whatever is in that office clearly has Trump concerned.

And here is how Trump responded publicly to questions about the raid.
Did I not say earlier that today was going to be stressful for Donald Trump?

That might have been an understatement.

Now the question is will this be the thing that freaks Trump out so much that he finally fires Rod Rosenstein and starts working to close down the Mueller investigation?

Trump blasts Michael Cohen raid as a “disgrace”
He also angrily riffed on the Mueller

investigation, saying “many people” have said he should fire the special counsel.

...Either way, Trump angrily referred to the raid on Cohen as a “disgrace.”

“It’s a real disgrace. It’s an attack on our country in a true sense,” Trump said. “It’s an attack on what we all stand for so when I saw this and when I heard it, I heard it like you did, I said that is really now in a whole new level of unfairness.”

IMPORTANT: 3 days ago, Trump said Cohen set up the Daniels agreement without telling him. Cohen thus wasn't acting as Trump's lawyer in that matter. That means any documents relating to the agreement may not be attorney-client privileged. And that's *most* of what the FBI wanted.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_Berman

is an American lawyer currently serving as the Interim United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.[3] While Berman currently serves as U.S. attorney on an interim basis, it has been reported that President Donald Trump intends to nominate him to permanently serve in the position.
Berman joins a long line of notable persons who have been U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, including Henry L. Stimson, Robert M. Morgenthau, Robert Fiske, Rudy Giuliani, Mary Jo White, James B. Comey, and Preet Bharara.
Upon President Donald Trump's firing Preet Bharara as U.S. Attorney, Trump reportedly interviewed Berman among other candidates for the position. On January 3, 2018, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Berman's appointment as U.S. Attorney, along with sixteen other former prosecutors, to serve ad interim in various offices around the country until the Senate can permanently confirm them.

Former U.S. attorney Preet Bharara pointed out Monday that the Justice Department officials who approved the warrant to raid the president’s longtime attorney Michael Cohen were “hand-picked” by Donald Trump himself — and that they may be turning against him.

Bharara, who was fired by Trump last year from his role leading the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that the people chosen to replace him and his deputy June Kim “are all people who are Republican and are all people who were basically hand-picked by Donald Trump.”

It’s “very sensitive” to search an attorney’s residence and office, Bharara noted, and it “requires the personal approval of the United States attorney himself” and the DOJ’s criminal justice division.

“If it’s true that the Southern District of New York has taken over this part of the investigation based on a referral from [special counsel Robert] Mueller’s office, it’s being done because people think it’s very serious, people think it’s totally warranted and people think there’s evidence of a significant enough nature that you’ll risk doing something sensitive like raiding a law office.”

On "Michael Cohen": This is coordinated between NY Atty Gen Schneiderman and Mueller. It will be done via NY State because Mueller understands full well that Trump will pardon Cohen for any and everything to keep him quiet if it's a Federal charge...........yet he gets all the data that's picked up to use as needed. Trump can’t pardon a NY State charge so the case gets dicier for Cohen who could be persuaded to flip, and boy does he ever have the goods on Trump. What a day!

When a president’s personal lawyer is the target of a federal law-enforcement raid, it is a Big Deal. How big a deal remains to be seen, but the fact that the move came at the request of the Justice Department’s Southern District of New York – after a referral from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office – could be an indication that Donald Trump’s affairs are now relevant to a second criminal probe.

Trump-watchers may recall that the president had fired the former US attorney for the Southern District, Preet Bharara, and was reportedly personally interviewing his replacement. A year later, the office is still under the direction of an interim appointment.

According to the New York Times, FBI agents sought information on payments made relating to Mr Trump’s alleged affair with porn star Stormy Daniels and other tax and business dealings. What was once largely a political embarrassment could have metastasised into legal jeopardy.

Mr Cohen’s ties to Mr Trump run deep. He’s more than just a personal lawyer, he’s a friend and fixer. He was already on Mr Mueller’s radar for his work for the Trump organisation in Russia. Now the scope of his legal concerns may have dramatically expanded.

‘A bomb on Trump’s front porch’: FBI’s Cohen raids hit home for the president

...Cohen is Trump’s virtual vault — the keeper of his secrets, from his business deals to his personal affairs — and the executor of his wishes.

“This search warrant is like dropping a bomb on Trump’s front porch,” said Joyce White Vance, a former U.S. attorney in Alabama.

Mark S. Zaid, a Washington lawyer, said the seizure of Cohen’s records “should be the most concerning for the president.”

“You can’t get much worse than this, other than arresting someone’s wife or putting pressure on a family member,” he said. “This strikes at the inner sanctum: your lawyer, your CPA, your barber, your therapist, your bartender. All the people who would know the worst about you.”

'Everyone knows Cohen has been Trump's go-to lawyer & fixer, protecting him in lawsuits & representing him in all sorts of shady dealings. I believe his office is a treasure trove of information. Don't forget Cohen's involvement w/ Flynn & Sater in trying to lift Russian sanctions'
      Maxine Waters

"Dear @realDonaldTrump: You & your attorney Michael Cohen do not constitute "our country." The American people do. What the US Attorney for SDNY & the judicial branch did today was not an attack on our county. It was the vindication of the Rule of Law, which our country relies on."

Mr. Cohen may have to cough up who threatened Stormy in order to cut a deal. This just gets better and better!

Cohen certainly has to have evidence that Trump directly told him to handle Stormy and all the others. If not, Trump could turn around and throw him under the bus by saying he had no right to represent him in such matters.

TRUMP IS A LEAKER TO MEDIA AS ANONYMOUS SOURCE FOR GOOD COVERAGE, NEW BOOK CLAIMS

President Donald Trump leaks directly to top mainstream media outlets in order to attain more positive coverage, despite the commander-in-chief’s very public attacks on the media, according to a new book released Tuesday.

The president routinely calls up reporters and is attributed as a “senior White House official,” author and veteran reporter Ronald Kessler claims in the book “The Trump White House: Changing the Rules of the Game.”

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway was also accused in the book of being a major leaker to the media.

“Trump phones Maggie Haberman of the New York Times directly, as well as Philip Rucker of the Washington Post, and Jonathan Swan of Axios, feeding them stories attributed to ‘a senior White House official,’ creating the impression the White House leaks even more than it already does,” Kessler wrote, according to People. “In other cases, the media has picked up reports on what Trump himself has said to his friends.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has answered President Donald Trump’s demands for America’s top law enforcement agency to speed up the delivery to Congress of more than a million documents about an FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email server.

The Department of Justice and the FBI asked Chicago prosecutor John Lausch to oversee the redaction and production of documents over the weekend. Many of these concern the FBI’s investigation of Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state.

...FBI Director Christopher Wray bumped up the number of staffers handling the committee's records request from 27 to 54 at the end of March. He said they would work in shifts from 8 a.m. to midnight. The Justice Department expects to deliver 3,600 pages to the committee on Monday.

Lausch’s appointment will have him oversee the speedy processing of documents and verifying whether redactions are necessary.

“Our goal is to assure Congress, the president and the American people that the FBI is going to produce the relevant documents and will do so completely and with integrity and professionalism,” said Sarah Isgur Flores, the Justice Department’s top spokeswoman, in a statement Sunday.

Trump accused the Justice Department of “slow walking” the delivery of documents for the committee's investigation. “What is going on? BAD!” the president wrote in another tweet Saturday.

I considered watching Hannity to hear him say they haven't found any collusion and what a disgrace but I couldn't do it. Read some of the #MichaelCohen thread on Twitter instead.

The British setting fire to the White House in 1814 was an attack on our country. The Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor was an attack on our country. The plane hijackings on 9/11 were an attack on our country.

The FBI raid on President Donald Trump’s personal attorney — approved by multiple law enforcement agencies, including some from of his own administration — was clearly NOT an “attack on our country,” in contradiction to the president’s bizarre statement today. And for Trump to claim that it was an “attack on our country” was completely morally outrageous, and perhaps the best indication yet that he knows he is in some sort of serious legal trouble.

I think trump is confusing the Russian "attack on the country" at the time of the 2016 election with the Mueller investigation and yesterday's raid on Cohen's office/hotel room. I wonder if the fire in Trump Tower had anything to do with it. It was the second fire there since the beginning of the year. Makes one wonder. . . .

300,000 Americans vow to protest in every state if Trump fires Mueller

Trump's rhetoric against special counsel Robert Mueller continues to ramp up as the investigations close in. But if he tries to follow through on his implied threat, Americans are ready to push back.

I don't think this raid was limited to the Stormy Daniels payment. The DOJ approved this referral to NY, which had to get a federal judge's approval for the search warrant. My guess is that the DOJ, Southern District of NY & Mueller see evidence of RICO activities.

    Wait for it...
