The Washington Post learns that more than 187,000 students have been exposed to gun violence while at school.

Courtesy of WaPo:

Over the past two decades, a handful of massacres that have come to define school shootings in this country are almost always remembered for the students and educators slain. Death tolls are repeated so often that the numbers and places become permanently linked.

What those figures fail to capture, though, is the collateral damage of this uniquely American crisis. Beginning with Columbine in 1999, more than 187,000 students attending at least 193 primary or secondary schools have experienced a shooting on campus during school hours, according to a year-long Washington Post analysis. This means that the number of children who have been shaken by gunfire in the places they go to learn exceeds the population of Eugene, Ore., or Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Many are never the same.

School shootings remain extremely rare, representing a tiny fraction of the gun violence epidemic that, on average, leaves a child bleeding or dead every hour in the United States. While few of those incidents happen on campuses, the ones that do have spread fear across the country, changing the culture of education and how kids grow up.

Every day, threats send classrooms into lockdowns that can frighten students, even when they turn out to be false alarms. Thousands of schools conduct active-shooter drills in which kids as young as 4 hide in darkened closets and bathrooms from imaginary murderers.

“It’s no longer the default that going to school is going to make you feel safe,” said Bruce D. Perry, a psychiatrist and one of the country’s leading experts on childhood trauma. “Even kids who come from middle-class and upper-middle-class communities literally don’t feel safe in schools.”

These statistics are terrifying.

No child should have to fear going to school, or sitting down in a movie theater, or shopping at the local mall.

And yet many of them live with that fear every single day.

That is why this march on Saturday is so important.

It might not change anything on its own, but it is the first positive steps in that direction.

The March for Our Lives event on Saturday is going to be huge.

I do not know how they keep doing it, but these kids continue to impress me just about every day.

Usually this is where the media moves on from another senseless shooting to focus on other issues, but these students refuse to let that happen this time, and almost by sheer force of will they are keeping the debate alive.

So apparently today begins the Civil War 2.0. Or not.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

If you are inside the “alt-right” information bubble, you might be preparing yourself for a civil war to commence this Saturday.

Since late September, the idea has been circulating on Facebook groups, subreddit message boards, Twitter, and leading conspiracy media outlets that on 4 November, anti-fascist groups will begin a violent insurrection.

Some websites are telling their readers that antifa groups are “planning to kill every single Trump voter, Conservative and gun owner” this weekend. Hundreds of Facebook posts show how seriously consumers of such media are taking the news, and comments like “One more threat against white people and I swear to God I’m going to take a goddamn car and run over every fucking one of them” are not unrepresentative of the response.

But antifa groups have no plans to protest that day, and the small leftist groups who are planning protests have only dubious connections to the antifa movement. So what gives?

Beginning in late September, three things kicked it a into higher gear. First, Refuse Fascism, a small group linked to the Revolutionary Communist party, staged a visually spectacular protest in Los Angeles. They blocked the 101 freeway and held up signs that enigmatically spelled out “Nov 4 it begins”. This is the same group that is organizing a series of protests around the country against the “Trump-Pence regime” this weekend.

Second, a video posted on a Facebook page called Vets Before Illegals went viral. The video, entitled “Antifa sets a date for civil war”, claimed that “on their website, they are calling for an open civil war that will start in November”, and set out alleged plans for attacking police officers, then citizens and the government.

Last, but by no means least, the rumor was picked up and amplified by Alex Jones, the radio star with an audience of millions. As Sunshine explains, Jones “is a kind of meta-conspiracy theorist now” who “harvests other people’s theories” and repackages them to fit his narratives and his audience.

Good old Alex"I never met a conspiracy theory I didn't like" Jones.

So helpful isn't he?

There was also a report from Gateway Pundit based on a bad joke written on a Twitter account, with no actual connection to the antifa movement, which claimed that on November 4th  a leader of that movement promised to "behead white parents."

Now my first thought is that this is much ado about nothing , and that there will likely be NO actual armed conflicts or violence today. Especially since there do not seem to be many protests actually available for these wingnuts to flip out over.

However this could also be a dry run just to see now many people can be agitated in anticipation for a REAL call for violence against a larger antifa, or progressive protest.

That could easily result in a number of fatalities, which I would assume is the whole goal here.

I would also like to know if the Russians are involved in promoting this thing, since it sounds like it is right up their alley.

The major message to take away from all of this, is that people are incredibly high strung right now, and in all honesty it would only take a small spark to ignite a very real, and very dangerous civil war in this country.

It behooves all of us to watch our rhetoric and to make sure that while we are expressing our very reasonable anger and outrage, that we are not also giving others an excuse to turn to violence.

Alec Baldwin returns to SNL this weekend and promises it will be a "big deal."

Courtesy of Vulture:

What nuggets of comedic gold will Alec Baldwin’s hosting stint on Saturday Night Live bring us this weekend? Who knows? Maybe he doesn’t even know. (Nah. Of course he does. And maybe Melissa McCarthy and Rosie O’Donnell know, too?) But as he puts it ever so dramatically in the cinematic teaser for the episode: “The pull of fate is undeniable.” Strap on your seat belts, everybody. We have a feeling this is going to be … yuge.

Like I said before currently SNL is "must see TV" in my home so I am certainly going to be watching this Saturday.

And since this bit from Melissa McCarthy last weekend almost cost Sean Spicer his job, it is now going to be entertaining to see what SNL does next to rattle Trump's cage.

Personally I would LOVE to see an appearance by Rosie O'Donnell as Stephen Bannon, but we shall see.

Yes, we shall see.

SNL's cold open featuring impressions of Donald Trump., Chris Christie, Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz, and Mitt Romney.

Damn that is excellent work by SNL.

I especially liked Bobby Moynihan's Chris "Fat piece of crap" Christie standing in the back responding with "Yes sir, thank you sir, may I have another."

I have to confess that I missed this on Saturday night as I was recovering from a pulled muscle in my back, which kept me awake all night on Friday, so I essentially passed out around 8:30 PM on Saturday like a little boy after a day at the fair.

I figured since I missed it perhaps some of you did as well, which would be a shame because it is damn funny.

Sometimes you just have to laugh. SNL's take on the Affordable Care website is not to be missed.

I am ashamed to admit that I fell asleep early on Saturday night and missed this entire show.

But don't blame me, sometimes all of that drinking typing, and surfing porn research really tires a fellow out.

I just wish they would hurry up and iron out all of the kinks. I really want to get me some of that health care insurance people are always talking about. Sounds awesome.

Fox News gets dissed by perhaps the BIGGEST movie of the summer. Aww, sucks to be them!

Courtesy of Politicususa:

In the upcoming blockbuster The Avengers, MSNBC and CNN are featured, but after dissing Spider-Man last summer, ratings leader Fox News is conspicuously missing.

TVnewser has the scoop, “MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts appeared as himself, gamely pretending that the world had just been saved by a giant green man and the Norse God of Thunder. In addition to MSNBC, “footage” from the battle ran on CNN, local Time Warner Cable channel NY1 and ABC affiliate WABC ( we didn’t see any real anchors, just clips and an interview with a “witness”). There were also some fictional TV networks, including a fake channel 5, which is a Fox affiliate here in New York. We also noticed that the only cable news channel not featured was Fox News Channel.”

Now you may be wondering WHY Fox News, who is certainly not shy about self promotion, would not have their name prominently displayed throughout this movie? Good question.

A possible reason for this might be that Disney, who is distributing this movie hates Fox news, or perhaps that Fox News hates them back.

Or it could be this:

Fox News has accused the left of forcing Marvel to “take a radical left turn to extreme political correctness” by making the new Spider-Man half black and half Hispanic.

Marvel, which is also the comic book company behind the Avengers, is undoubtedly sensitive about having one of their most iconic characters attacked in this way, so that might very well have something to do with the fact that the movie now portrays Fox as being perhaps the ONLY cable news network that would not consider the saving of New York by a group of colorfully garbed super heroes to be newsworthy.

Undoubtedly Fox was too busy covering another socialist political move by President Obama, or reporting on how a white person exercised  their first amendment rights by delivering justice through the barrel of a gun to some poor minority that walked too close to their house, or perhaps they were busy making sure that the stupidity falling out of Sarah Palin's mouth was broadcast into the homes of unsuspecting Americans.

Yeah I know that it will probably not have any real impact on Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes, or the shareholders of Newscorp.  After all they have a Hannity, an O'Reilly, and a Van Susteren as their own personal "superheroes," assuming of course that blatant lies and obfuscation can be considered a super power that is.

Well personally I am very excited about attending this move today. Because even though Fox News may have an army of brainwashed paint chip eaters who are still ignorant enough to support them, those of us who are NOT seeing a Leftist agenda behind every corner have something much more exciting, we have a Hulk!

Oh boy, I can taste the popcorn already!
