One of America's oldest gun manufacturers has filed for Chapter 11.

Courtesy of Daily Beast:

Remington Outdoor Co., one of America’s oldest gunmakers, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to CNN Money. The company announced that it was planning to file for bankruptcy in February, and has officially begun the process of restructuring its debt. Remington, which will remain in business during the bankruptcy, plans on reducing its debt by $700 million and contributing "$145 million to its subsidiaries." Its current owner, Cerberus Capital Management, will give up ownership of the company once the bankruptcy process is over. Remington makes the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle that was used in the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting. Family members of the 26 Sandy Hook victims sued the company in the wake of the massacre. This comes as the parent company of Smith & Wesson reported low earnings in March, and Sturm Ruger’s gun sales fell 27 percent at the end of 2017.

Gee without the Obama boogeyman in the White House I guess frightening people into buying unnecessary weapons is a whole lot harder.

And with all of this negative attention being directed at guns in America, I imagine that there are going to be a number of gun manufacturers who will be forced to tighten their belts a little.

Or possible quite a lot.

Former Trump tax attorney refutes his "brilliant" use of the tax laws, and bankruptcy lawyers say they used to visit Trump in pairs due to "lying."

Courtesy of HuffPo:

Donald Trump’s longtime tax accountant on Tuesday rejected the idea that the Republican nominee deserves any of the credit for employing complex strategies to lower his tax bill and those of his companies.

“I did all the tax preparation,” Jack Mitnick told “Inside Edition” on Tuesday. “He never saw the product until it was presented to him for signature.”

The interview followed a damning report Saturday by The New York Times, which obtained part of Trump’s 1995 tax returns showing that the businessman declared a loss that year of more than $900 million, a loss that tax experts said Trump could have used to avoid paying income taxes for nearly 20 years.

Rather than deny the report, Trump and his advisers claimed that not paying income taxes was proof of Trump’s “genius.”

Yeah it takes a real genius to sign on the dotted and then take credit for all of the work.

However we should not be at all surprised.  After all according to Trump's former bankruptcy attorneys they had a policy to only meet with him in pairs due to his constant lying.

Donald Trump’s own bankruptcy lawyers testified that they had a policy of not meeting with the real estate mogul alone because he had a “problem” of constantly lying.

In one document, bankruptcy attorney George Miller reveals that when meeting with Trump, “it’s always been our practice to make sure that two people are present, and we don’t have a problem with people lying.”

Miller calls Trump “an expert at interpreting things. Let’s put it that way.”

“We tried to [meet in pairs] with Donald always if we could because Donald says certain things and then has a lack of memory,” he says in the deposition.

And the hits just keep on coming.

Seriously how much more of this can his candidacy take before it simply collapses under the weight?

Elizabeth Warren talking about Hillary Clinton in 2004 interview is something I think we all should watch.

Now if you will notice Warren really stresses how intelligent and formidable Hillary Clinton was back when she was First Lady. And she also kind of gives Hillary a pass, to some degree, for her vote later which ultimately undid all of the work she did previously.

As grownups of course we understand how politics works.

However we also know that the main criticism against Hillary is that her positions change with the polls, and that she is not a person of substance.

I do not agree with that completely, but I would be lying if I did not admit that it was reason for concern.

Now this does not mean that I will not vote for Hillary.

I will.

It also does not mean that I think she cannot win against any of the Republican choices.

She can. And most likely will.

However it does mean that we need to be aware that Hillary Clinton is a political animal, and that the issues she supports so strongly right now, such as gun control and her stance against the Trans-Pacific Partnership, might not be the issues she supports once she sits behind that desk in the Oval Office.

Which is yet another reason that she would be well served by a Vice President Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren in my opinion.

Breitbart.com continues to be the shining light of Right Wing "journalism" by reporting yet another parody story as actual news.

Courtesy of Business Insider:

A satirical item published last week purporting that economist Paul Krugman had filed for bankruptcy has spread to Boston.com and the conservative website Breitbart this morning.

The item originated in The Daily Currant, a satirical news site. Austria's Format online magazine picked it up, and their report was subsequently cited by Boston.com. Then it spread to Breitbart.

Apparently Breitbart has since taken it down, but other sites have not.

However my favorite part of this story is Krugman's response to it:

Krugman responded to the mix-up this morning, writing on his blog that he knew of the fake news item and was asked about it by a Russian television station. He wrote that he did not address it on his blog because he "wanted to wait and see which right-wing media outlets would fall for the hoax."

Yeah isn't it helpful to have these new conservatives news sites and blogs reporting the information that the "liberal" media is too "in the tank" to report?

I always assume "in the tank" is code for "demonstrates journalistic integrity."

By the way if you think you have heard of this Daily Currant site before, you are right:

The Daily Currant is the same site the Washington Post cited in a false report last month that former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was joining Al Jazeera.

Well at least Breitbart.com is in good company. Or is it the other way around?
