Bush continues to confuse Saddam Hussein with Bin Laden.

With a slip of the tongue, U.S. President George W. Bush briefly turned Osama bin Laden into Saddam Hussein on Monday.

Bush momentarily switched the names of his two greatest nemeses in a news conference at the White House where he was defending his decision to authorize eavesdropping on Americans suspected of links with al Qaeda and other organizations in the U.S. war on terrorism.

"In the late 1990s, our government was following Osama bin Laden because he was using a certain type of telephone and then the fact that we were following Osama bin Laden because he was using a certain type of telephone made it into the press as the result of a leak," Bush said.

"And guess what happened. Saddam ...Osama bin Laden changed his behavior. He began to change how he communicated. We're at war. And we must protect America's secrets."
The Bush administration sought to convince Americans before the invasion of Iraq that Saddam Hussein's government had links to bin Laden's al Qaeda. No such links have been proven.

Bush also cannot tell the difference between terrorists and insurgents, Democrats and traitors, enemies and the media, or being the president of a democratic nation and the dictator of a captive populace. I think these little gaffes are very revealing in demonstrating exactly how Bush's mind fails to function. His reality is formed entirely out of what he wants it to be. He does not listen to any opinions which do not reinforce what he already believes to be true.

You can see his mind unraveling right on camera in these last four or five television appearances. He is clearly very upset that he is not able to distract the American people away from the terrible polls, the criminal investigation, and his own stumbling by continuing to talk about success in Iraq and his supposed success with the economy. I almost expect him to have a breakdown right out of "A Few Good Men", where Colonel Jessup screams at Tom Cruise;
"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!"

Well guess what? I want the truth.

  1. I caught this Freudian Slip as well. These folks have spewed their own spin on this for so long they really believe it. And that is scary.

  2. I am not so sure that it was a slip- I think he believes his own spin and propaganda at this point.,...And the fact that we aren't sure if it was a slip is more than concerning....
