Many Presidential candidates feel they must run the Comedy Central guantlet to be taken seriously. I agree.

Four presidential candidates are lined up to visit Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" over the next three weeks as Comedy Central's satirical news review ramps up its "Indecision 2008" coverage.

Sen. Joseph Biden, the Delaware Democrat, is first up this Wednesday. Biden appeared on "The Daily Show" last winter on the day he announced his candidacy.

Republican John McCain makes his 10th appearance on Aug. 16, followed by another Republican, former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson, on Aug. 20.

On Aug. 22, Democratic contender Barack Obama comes back to the show for a second time, his first as a declared candidate.

To borrow a talking point from the Republicans, and change it completely, "how can we expect these guys to protect us from terrorists if they cannot even face Jon Stewart?"

I have to admit I am impressed that John McCain is going to make a return visit. Even though he has a long, mostly friendly relationship with Jon, his last appearance was somewhat contentious. See part one below.

And then here is part two.

When you watch this it becomes painfully obvious that Jon is doing the job that most newscasters fear to do, calling them on their bullshit. And if you don't gain a lot of respect for Jon Stewart after seeing this exchange then you don't know brilliance when you see it.

  1. I heart Jon Stewart.

John McCain has either a a decent sense of humor or some brass balls to go on there over and over again. But I still can't stand the sumbitch.

Thanks for stopping by Sirens Chronicles today :)
