The Palmer District Attorney said if he had known just why Sherry Johnston needed to travel outside Alaska he would not have signed off on the trip.
Johnston, who is facing felony drug charges, left Alaska to appear on "The Tyra Banks Show" and "Larry King Live."
Prosecutor Roman Kalytiak said he thought Johnston, who is the mother of Levi Johnson who fathered a child with Bristol Palin, Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter, had something important to do that justified traveling.
Kalytiak said the way the legal motion was worded, it appeared that Johnston needed to travel for important family business. He said he now knows that was not the case.
They "didn't say she was going out of state to appear on various TV shows," he said.
Well if this District Attorney was a little fuzzy on why Sherry Johnston wanted to leave the state then it was up to him to ask for clarification.
And besides the reason that you deny somebody the opportunity to leave the state before their case comes to court is because you fear they are a flight risk or will not be back in time for the trial. Since Sherry is back in town right now than that fear is moot.
Clearly somebody called Kalytiak and rattled his cage and he is now simply covering his ass. It is total bullshit.
As we have all come to realize our Governor is a reactive vindictive person who, now that she feels attacked, is trying to punish those she holds responsible.
The DA is a joke. It is clear that Sarah is behind this farce. There was nothing illegal. Since Mercede is a minor and she was going on television with Levi, her mother needed to be there. Is there anyone in the Alaska government that doesn't kiss Sarah's ass? She must have been the town whore, and is owed alot of favors. She has a lot of growing up to do. Someone needs to stand up to her, or she will continue with unethical behavior. I hope Levi takes the next step for his child(ren) sake.
ReplyDeleteThis is like Jr. High sparring and makes your state look more and more foolish. I used to want to visit Alaska because of its incredible natural beauty, but when the light is shown on how the inhabits of Alaska behave, it really tarnishes the image. It has dropped off my list, too Northern Exposure for me!

ReplyDeleteThere are some of us that aren't concerned that you choose not to visit our state because you've been exposed to our politics. Please don't paint the entire state and it's inhabitants with the same broad brush because of the media coverage of our politics.
I guess I'm saying, if you stay away, great, you'll be one less slow driving gawker on our highways making it difficult for us to travel to our summer recreation destinations. BUT, sad for you if you let this political circus deter you from visiting one of the world's last untouched wilderness areas.
Weigh your options carefully before deciding to write Alaska off because Sarah Palin is an idiot. You might just miss the best vacation of your life.
It is rather pointless of the DA to complain after permission to leave the state was given. The DA just looks foolish and shows that he is biased against Sherry Johnston and her son Levi. How close is he to the governor?
ReplyDeleteFrom the original ADN article, Megan Holland:
ReplyDelete"........Prosecutors did not object. They asked that Johnston provide a copy of her itinerary and sign a waiver of extradition."
So what didn't they understand? Sounds like someone got called on the Gubernatorial carpet. Your new Governor will need to steam clean that spot.
Perhaps a Freedom of Information request is in order to find out if anyone from the governor's office or extended family by any means contacted the PDA regarding Sherry's trips.

ReplyDeleteI've taken a cruise to Alaska and it was wonderful.
I'll never forget the helicopter ride over the glaciers. We saw eagle nests in tall firs and mountain goats on steep slopes.
The best salmon I ever tasted in my life came from a neighbor who had just flown back from a fishing trip to Alaska.
Please, try to keep the land and rivers clean for future generations.

Hey, AKPetMom, Juneau was one of the highlights of the two cruise trips to Alaska I have experienced. Took a trolley trip through town, right along that march Palin took from the Gov. Mansion to the Capitol bldg....
ReplyDeleteLoved river rafting outside Haines; loved the train ride up to the pass outside Skagway (and on a subsequent trip, a car trip up into the Yukon), the fjords and glaciers (melting, melting, melting! just like on Mt. Rainier)...
...and so on. Sarah Palin isn't going to keep me from returning to Alaska.
But I have to admit, from what I've seen in pictures, Wasilla looks just like what Smokey Point, exit 206 off I-5 in Washington State developed into, thanks to all those greedy "resource" people who owned frontage property. I can do without seeing another town composed of an endless line of strip malls.
I use to live in Fairbanks from 89-99. My best friend still lives in Anchorage. I'm planning on going to see her this summer. I'm not letting that "whackjob" stop me from seeing that beautiful state again. Matter of fact I'm going to make a point to take pictures of her downtown office and maybe I'll get to see GINO shopping in Nordstroms. He He
ReplyDeleteThe appearance on Tyra was April 6th. Advertised prior to that. Story in ADN. Is the DA and prosecutor deaf and dumb? Both covering their arses now that Momma Palin is on the floor having a temper tantrum. They both have mouths, use them. Ask questions or is that too difficult? For the prosecutor so say the Sherry should be spending her time preparing for her trial -- hello -- she has a lawyer doing that. What does Kalytiak expect her to do -- pitch a tent in her lawyer's office from when he was retained to the trial date. Both are showing total incompetence.
ReplyDeleteMomma Palin is PO's because she is not in charge of all the media airwaves. GO LEVI!!!
Will we hear now or after the trial of resignations with bogus excuses cause Palin didn't get her way.
Butler should be asking for new prosecutor/DA as these two are tainted -- big time. But then again, that's more the norm in government held jobs in Alaska.
So, the prosecutor is admitting that his decision wasn't made based on flight risk but rather on political views? Had he known the Johnstons were going to go on TV regarding Palin he would have denied them?
ReplyDeleteWell, that certainly says a lot doesn't it.
Is he elected to his job or is it by appointment? Just asking.
Hi KaJo,
ReplyDeleteWasilla, at least the part that you pass through on the Highway, is not one of Alaska's lovelier locales. We do have some nice peaceful neighborhoods, a few miles off the highway, and in all fairness, there are plenty of suburban eyesores as well.
The best part of Wasilla is the fact that it is close to many superb recreation areas; Hatcher Pass, Nancy Lake, and too many hiking trails to count. Lots of groomed x-country ski trails are nearby as well.
I'm lucky enough to live in an older established neighborhood that left large old growth greenbelts between our subdivisions so that one can enjoy "Alaska" right in their own back yard. My subdivision has 8 homes and we each have nearly 2 acres. There is a new subdivision down the road that placed 30 homes on the same amount of land!
Sorry for rambling, just wanted to let you that there are little slices of heaven even in Wasilla :-)
The department of law is corrupt. They maliciously prosecute people all the time. It is often politically driven and at times personal for some of the proscutors. Being allowed to leave the state is normally based on your risk to run. They have denied low risk individuals the right to go to another state and get decent health care just to be vendictive. You see Palin is vendictive and she picks vendictive people to run things for her. Who knows what Sherry Johnston actually did. The DOL has been known to get police departments to set up people.
