Voters sent Dan Sullivan into the mayor's office Tuesday with an overwhelming show of support, and the municipality's seventh elected mayor almost immediately started planning for a transition period that will end when he's sworn in July 1.
Sullivan trounced Eric Croft in a heated runoff race to become Anchorage's next mayor.
With all of the precincts counted, Sullivan had 28,866 votes to Croft's 21,527. That is a 57.3 to 42.7 percent split of the vote. Some absentee and questioned ballots still need to be counted, but the outcome won't change.
The Republicans may be feeling very good about this victory, but the facts are that the next four years will be very challenging for Anchorage and this new mayor will be blamed for every crisis and difficulty facing our fair city.
Welcome to your one and only term Mayor Sullivan.
Okay. So I don't live in Anchorage or even Alaska so essentially this is none of my business.
ReplyDeleteBut I did say during the mayoral primaries it's not about who is best for the job, it's about who can defeat Dan Sullivan.
From what I read Eric Croft couldn't defeat Dan Sullivan head to head.
Now Dan Sullivan is mayor.
That's politics.
Will this mayor be credited if he is successful?
ReplyDeleteWhatever that may be, Sullivan is a far better choice than that punk Begich, who left Anchorage with all of these problems.
This mayor's race is supposed to be non-partisan. I'm not a Republican nor a Democrat, just a resident living in Anchorage. Let's all work together to make Anchorage a better place to live, and we can do this by volunteering in our community and saying positive things about our Mayor, Dan Sullivan, and pray for God granting him wisdom in governing our city for the betterment of the community. He ran for Mayor to accomplish good things for us, and we should give him a chance.
